Who was the Nisei Goju fighter who fought Gracy in UFC?
shotokanwarrior replied to Scuba Steve's topic in Karate
Who is gracy -
Have you ever noticed how in the UFC many fights are stopped just because someone is pounding away at someones head and not the face? I guess you can win a UFC fight that way but it not real for the streets. I have personally seen a guy break his hand on a guys head. I have been hit in the head and it does hurt but it hurt the other guy more. so if you are real sure that you can hit someone in the face go for it.

What is a Black Belt
shotokanwarrior replied to wcnavstar's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A black belt means nothing unless you have had the right training. We once had a black belt from a Mcdojo come to my school. His dad brought him in because kids at school were stealing his jacket on doing things to him and he did not stand up for himself. His techniques were so bad, his kicks were even worse. The black belts from my school worked with him but he gave up because it was to hard for him and all they did were basic kicking. -
Name ONE good thing about your style/art:
shotokanwarrior replied to WC-Strayder's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My art is very open, yes we learn the classical karate stuff but the teacher also teaches outside the lines of tradition. He as 40 years of martial arts and because he was in the air force has fought and learned from all over the world. To achieve rank you must follow the usual way but after orange belt he invites you for special classes where you are taught some more exciting stuff from boxing to grappling and weapons -
I have seen fights start with the to people face to face doing the chest or belly bump. My sensi taught me that you should not let a man get that close to you, it is your personal space. If a guy tries to get into your face, raise you hands up chest high with the palms faceing out. Take a step back and tell him to stay back I do not want any trouble. If he steps in again you attack. He was warned and bystanders have seen that if ther are any. The second time he came in, his advance is considered an attack.

Lethalo - the "Most deadly martial art"?
shotokanwarrior replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
All crack heads that I have ever seen are so skinny and have no teeth -
One thing my sensi has done was to throw change from his pocket in a under hand throw so the change goes up towards the attackers face. The attacker every time looks up at the change and some times even raises his hands. This distraction gives you time to attack

When was the last time royce won? Do you think kimo can beat him now?
-
Ok every time I watch a basket ball game and one of the players fall down on that hard floor, they get hurt and it takes them a little time to get up. Now the ufc ring has a soft floor not a hard floor so being thrown to the ground in the street is different.

Karate or dojo etiquette does come from japaneese culture. For starters the terms are all japaneese. Respect for others inside your dojo and even visitors. Im not sure if any of you have been to japan but everything is done from a sabate position even the motels do not have chairs. You do not shake hands everyone bows to you. This is just a few of the things that come from the japaneese culture but I do know that the every day japaneese person does not know all of the karate etiquette.

Why dont you ask him to stop by your dojo and he can see what goes on there and most schools offer a free class. You can also ask him to participate with you in some sparring sessions. if this does not work at some point you must put a stop to it and kick his butt.

Bruce Lee knew that the first and primary target is the eyes, groan, knees. Then you use your martial arts skills. There were not many rules then but there still were rules and a controlled enviorment. To be effective on the street you need steet smarts, there are weapons all around you, rocks, sticks, change in your pocket thrown into someones face works well to hurt and distract.

countering roundhouse kick to ribs
shotokanwarrior replied to DIABLO's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I never get a chance to respond, I feel it in the ribs then I see my instructor putting his leg back down, He could do a lot of dammage if he wanted -
did you see how out of gas royce was? The street may have been different. Kimo was so crazy who knows what would have happened with no rules.

I believe that the so called american karate is not karate just for the fact that the word karate is not an american word and most americans do not even know how to say it right.
-
Have u ever heard" you may know karate but i know crazy".The book art of war"know your enemy". Well you know nothing about what a so called streetfighter knows or what he can do, so it would be harder to fight him.If a person has but one goal and lets say it is to bite your ear off, no matter what the outcome of the fight even if u kill him you will be missing an ear.

Countering the BJJ fighter
shotokanwarrior replied to ZR440's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
when they shoot in try a good front stance and move your rear leg back far and go low. run your arm down the side of his neck and jaw and turn his head side ways then clamp on the the other side of the neck with your other arm and choke. another thing to do is strike the back of the neck at the spine with an elbow.
