Jeez. I can picture what you mean...and could probably do it in slow motion, but a kick... What do you suggest to practice it? I gotta have this perfect before my next tournament...which is only next Friday. Oh dear. Thanks Kickbutt.

Yeah. The aches in your knees are because you've put too much strain on them...more than likely from the running. For all your lungs and heart etc can cope with running long distances without preparing, your joints can't. Stretching is still ok to carry on with, and might even help, but I'd lay off the running and skipping for a week like you say. Be prepared to lose a little of your stamina though.

Make sure you shake your muscles thoroughly after doing any punching, otherwise after your first lesson you'll have sore arms for a week afterwards...at least it feels like a week. Buiding up stamina with things like skipping and running are important, but not as important as being able to do at least a couple of push-ups and a few sit-ups... In my first kickboxing class I had to do 300 sit-ups...which was very hard back then. -
Personally I would never try anything so silly...but my friend wants to lose a little bit of weight for her holiday in a couple of weeks...only half a stone or so, she's quite chubby but not fat by any stretch of the imagination. Anyway, so she has this idea to partly starve herself for those two weeks...eating no later than 4pm, and drinking tons of coffee (for the caffeine to speed her metabolism)... Also, she's not planning on doing any exercise whatsoever in these two weeks, being that a resting body prefers to burn fat for energy. Will this work or is it dangerous? What's the fastest way to achieve weightloss without losing muscle too or slowing down the metabolism? Or is that impossible?

Wow, GoldDragon, lots of information there...think I'll print that off... Thanks a lot.

One question about the side kick...which way is your foot meant to face? I can only do a side kick with my toes facing upwards, but I've seen people doing it with their foot facing sideways. Is there a specific way or will either do?

Ok, the subject is roundhouse kicks...the short roundhouse kick and the thai roundhouse kick I can cope with...but I think I'm doing something wrong with the snap roundhouse kick... The way my instructor is trying to get me to do it I'm sure my knee is just gonna snap or something... The way he does it he lifts his knee right up as if he's aiming for someone's chin, then quickly turns it into a roundhouse kick... Do you turn your knee inwards? Or...hmm, or what?

That's about the same as me Nat. I started karate about 6 years ago, and then left to do kickboxing a couple of years ago...which I gotta say I prefer I'm from Durham Nat...way up North near the geordies.

That's interesting BlueDragon, I've never seen that before.. Thanks for the name Karateka -
Personally I do have respect for black belts and I know many other people do too, so it is apalling that black belts should go around with this behaviour. There should be a system whereby people can get there belt confiscated for a while for behaviour such as that.

Hmmm, still, I'm not sure I would do something like that, despite the large amount of "danger money"... I know accidents like this are rare and all that but it goes without saying there's a risk with jobs/activities like that.

the site http://www.onrunning.com is the official GNR site and will tell you how you can enter... You do have to be over 18 though, but they have an under 18 version...
