  1. Congratulations Noah! A great step in life!
  2. 40? Young fella!!!!! Welcome to KF, and thanks for sharing your story. No foolish questions mate, just hit us up.
  3. I think I read somewhere that their business model was based on selling to networks around the place, they certainly won't be generating much off YouTube views....... I'd like to be able to attend one of their events tho......but I suspect the "Audience" are all actually just crew....
  4. 9 dans, there are 3 8th dans in our organization, all over 70 years old....
  5. 8th of January is the release date for season 3 of Cobra kai apparently. https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a33861140/cobra-kai-season-3-release-date-cast-spoilers/
  6. Late reply here and I don't know how I missed this before, but thanks for the work that you have put in here. I too have been carefully watching the styles of each fighters profile and have a few observations, the first being glaringly obvious, well, to me anyway, and that is the lack of Kyokushin fighters. Now, this is highly likely to be partly because the league is controlled/bank rolled, I believe, by Shotokan people. Also, watching the fights it is very obvious that the vast majority are "Point" fighters, (This last Sundays line up was a great example of this), or WKF style practitioners. Now, the organizers seem to have designed the rules to showcase style, rather than just KOs, and perhaps they are not wanting Kyokushin fighters, with their "slugfest" style of fighting (for want of a better word). Now would full contact styles dominate in Karate Combat, yes I believe so, watch the fights, almost all have a "low hands" set up, combinations are few as you can see them nip in to make 1 "shot" and bounce back out again. It is evolving tho, so who knows, if the prize money is there, then fighters may switch their focus onto "full contact" and move away from Point fighting. I for one think this would be a better way forward.
  7. 1. Depends on the syllabus and the other organization's rules for such things 2. Depends on the syllabus and the other organization's rules for such things 3. You still attained that rank in that style, whether you can still train or not is another matter. I wouldn't know if you can be stripped of rank, but your organization's rules may discuss this situation.
  8. Maybe Kyokoshin will suit you better. Go to one of their dojos, tell them what you think of karate and that you are interested in finding a real karate dojo to train in, IF their sparring is up to standard. I'm sure they will find someone to spar with you, please let us know how you get on there.
  9. It's designed that way, to keep you engaged, don't expect them to be best buddies anytime soon I imagine..........
  10. I would say it's all in your intent, any action, if it's goal is to celebrate or connect with occult or any other "power", well then that's it's goal, only if you have that intent, after all people pray to many things and deities, not just the christian god. If the heart is true then there is no issue in my opinion. I don't think there is such a thing as accidentally praying....
  11. 29" or bigger for a guy your size, but any specialist bike shop will know how to fit you out. If you just want to burn up miles then a road bike and find some hills there somewhere. Mountain bike if you prefer trails..
  12. Respectfully, I think that you may be missing something here, higher ranks than you should never be considered "Superior" but rather, your senior. And addressing dan grades by their rank title as it were, is part of the culture of "Traditional karate" which acknowledges your time and dedication to the art. Just like many other formal institutions, military, government, academia, etc. Now, how that person acts and treats you is a completely different deal. If you prefer the more casual environment of a MMA gym then that's fine, but understand that a tradition dojo and a MMA gym are offering completely different experiences. Just check out some of the MMA forums and you will soon pick up the vibe that they have compared with a karate one like KF forums.
  13. Thanks for all your efforts over the years Lupin!
  14. Congratulations! That's great news!! Well done!!
  15. Salt draws moisture out of the skin, but I think it should be a gradual process otherwise the hard skin can just crack and split. I would not rush it.....
  16. If you have 5 years of dance behind you then you may be ahead of the game in areas like flexibility and stamina/fitness, great traits that you already likely have! Proper instruction is the way to go as you don't want to teach yourself bad habits or misinterpreted techniques for example. And then there is the social aspect of training at a dojo, over time the respect and relationships will deepen as you train with others, sweating together, learning and sharing together. It's a great side effect of training with others. Find the right dojo for you and go for it!
  17. Sorry to hear Bob, you certainly have faced all sorts of challenges in the last few years. Keep your body strong for the fight and we will be praying for your early recovery!! In the interim, just don't get the COVID! I look forward to sharing another BBQ lunch with you in the future!!!
  18. Yes, we all have to go to work on Monday morning. Full contact, MMA style is a different beast as far as I'm concerned, if you are young and want to get recognition or $ or whatever, amateur or pro then OK fair enough, but for the rest of us, well we should have enough skills to defend ourselves against Joe average ratbag drunk outside the pub.
  19. I did one through the lockdown, got to 55 solid ones, slipped back a bit now to 50, but arms pumped out after that.......prefer to do double the amount in reps throughout the session
  20. Interesting JR, I'm diggin that Gi jacket!!!!!
  21. Good work Aurik! Feels good alright!! Here's a few pics of my Sunday morning (Today), shortest Sunday of the year we do our mid-winter beach training, ending up in the water... Wasn't too cold today, above freezing anyway. That's me, the silver fox, senior Kyu grade in the seiza pic. It's an awesome club, heaps of depth and experience amoungst the senior dan grades. [/img]
