Top 10 Self Defense Martial Arts
TJS replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
he was ahead of his time 25 years ago...dont be closed minded...besides JKD is a theory.. -
I would rather my techniques not be hidden and simply be taught to me a realistic no nonsense way.

It's called using protective equipment... gloves, headgear, shinpads.. etc. full contact sparring is very relevant...the best fighters in the world are th ones who train full contact. Like what? i think I can taget a few inches above the knee with a round in training and terget a few inches lower in a real fight..
-
no he couldent and he isint...he has said so himself...he said he would not fight in a NHB event because he is only trained to fight with his hands..noty with kicks, knees, elbows, takedowns etc...this is all from him.

silat vs win chung
TJS replied to kle1n's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Style does matter..If it didint i could make my own stlye up today and it would be equally effective as any otehr stlye...thats rediculous. ultimatly it comes down to the person but stlye does play a role. -

Sorry I need to vent!
TJS replied to the-wayis-noway's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
TKD does have extremly unrealistic rules for sparring. the first thing anyone is going to do in a real fight is punch in the face..not only are you not going to train in it you are not going to be good at defending it. then no leg kicks, no takedowns, no knees, im sorry but I belive the whole only kicking above the waist and no punching to the head rules creates more bad habits than good. I know TKD guys who can really throw down and are awsome fighters...but they did not train under traditional TKD rules.. If you want realistic self defense and fighting i would suggest checking out Krav Maga or Muay Thai or Kyokushin Karate(although you dont punch to the head in Kyokushin) -

BJJ and Multiple Opponents
TJS replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
the san soo multiple attacker demonstration was a bit unrealistic... -
Tyson would loose to alot of heavyweight..he would get grounded and pounded or submitted.. however if you trained him hard for about 6 months in takedown defenses and basic submission defenses he might win. he would definetly have the best standup but he could not win the way he is and he knows it..he is a mma fan and has commented on it before.

Karate + Muay Thai
TJS replied to WhiteBelt's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
If you say so..seems to me there migh have been people somewhere in the world that thought to hit someone with their elbow.. i didint realize that Thailand had a patend on it.. Ok let me break it down...in boxing the only thing you use is your hands. In a Muay Thai fight when you bob you have to worry about getting kicked or kneed in the head. No obviously you would bob and weave punches...generally peopel throw kicks and knees with those in combos...thus it's easier to eat one when you bob. boxing with kicks and knees and elbows and clinching and sometimes throws... -

TJS replied to TJS's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
well he knew he was fighing a wrestler..why would he not..thats what every wrestler did in ever ufc fight before that. I agree there..he could not defend a basic shoot. not true...Every single fighter Royce Gracie fough knew exactly what his intention were..but no one was able to stop him. how many highschool/college wrestlers are there out there? ALOT...wrestling is huge in the US..to not adress it is a tactical mistake... -

yea..everyone always wondered what would have happened in Royce gracie would have met the 600+ lb emanuel yarborogh in the finals... the fight you are thinking of is Koji kitao vs mark hall...mark broke his nose..the sad thing was he only weighed 190 pounds...this was back when all the big guys were fighing. -

No out is doubting WC works against Joe avg..but this video exposes what happens when you fight a skilled wrestler... Royce Was bitten in UFC 1 ..and for his efforts Gerard got an extra nasty rear naked choke. if you bite or eye gouged someone and won you still go the win..you just had to pay them $1,000 -
