  1. I'm not a muay thai dude, but I do pull the opponent in towards the knee as I'm bringing the knee up with the 'hop', it gets there quicker and hurts a lot more compared to just bringing the knee up to a stationary target. I bring the knee up at a 45 degree angle and I put my head back so I don't get hit in the head.
  2. Also, where's the style that covers grappling ?
  3. You're foolish if you think gung fu, boxing & karate combined make it unique over other styles.
  4. Hmm, I've been doing dynamic strethching as a warm up before my jog, then going for my jog. Haven't had any problems so far, instead, my calf muscles haven't cramped up like they were before
  5. TKD_McGee, I'll take your post as a paradox
  6. Where's the clavicle located ?
  7. I've done some akido with someone I don't think is qualified in akido & I've done a few lessons of judo, nothing to help my grappling except realise how poorly I could grapple. =p
  8. OldRookie, what was the bet for ? =p What did your diet & exercise routine consist of ?
  9. Heh, a six pack is basically a low body fat percentage so your abdominal muscles are visible. I don't think more crunches will help your cause, though, they'll definately toughen your abs. A six pack is made in the kitchen! You need to eat right and maybe lose a few lbs. Oh, just read your post again sorry. You want 6 abdominals muscles, giving you an 8 pack ?! LOTS of crunches, yeah..
  10. There's no reason your jab should be weak, or any technique that leads for that matter. With the jab, make sure you are pushing through the target after you have made contact & you'll get a lot more power. Feels a little awkward at first, but drill this and you'll start to love it and won't do anything else.
  11. I did kickboxing for a year without a mouth piece. Control was the name of the game, if the kick was off target, we'd pull out.
  12. No, my problem is I go too hard! =) _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy. [ This Message was edited by: Bon on 2002-04-15 17:53 ]
  13. It depends how you block really. In my guard, my left shoulder is in contact with my left jaw & my right hand near my right jaw..
  14. Yeah, it's a good article. I read it on your site before =)
  15. I've only been doing BJJ a month and I have been sparring freestyle a lot more than limited, I try to do moves that I do know, 'cept most of the higher belts have a counter to it. Heh. I've found it takes them longer to submit me now, I've been working on defence since I don't have so many offensive moves I can apply. Man, I get swept so easily when I'm in someone's guard though. =/ "I don't know many techniques, and those that I do know will be exectuted rather slowly and ineffectively for a while." Yeah, and they'll remain ineffective if you don't practice them. =) You'll probs find your strength is futile against a submission hold or any technique and you'll drop out of using strength pretty quickly. I used to be a kind of guy who liked to muscle things out no matter what I was doing, but, it just doesn't work, especially when you're up against a bigger guy.. you gas out so quickly

    lol, yeah =)
  17. Bishop, yeah I didn't like the page much 'cause it has 'enrol now!' & one of the comments mentions someone losing 40lbs, so they're trying to appeal emotively to a lot of people. I dunno, it would depend on the prices I guess. I didn't see a link to how much prices were on the site. jiu jitsu deals with taking your opponent to the ground & finishing them there using chokes & locks. You realise that don't you ? Dojo is the right term for jiu jitsu, dojo stands for dojang. The most important thing I believe you should look for in a dojo is students who are proficient. The students reflect the quality of the dojo and instructor. Also, an atmospwhere where the students help each other, i.e, no competition. A little friendly compeition is healthy, but not students who won't teach techniques to others, etc.. Instructors, IMO, should be a friend as well, not just an instructor for a set time & that's it. You need to be able to trust them & ask questions. 'cry in the dojo, laugh on the battlefield' I agree pretty much with what you said, but I'd word it differently.

I have a '93 Mitsubishi Lancer. I just need my license!! I'm not sure if you'll know what it is though ?
  19. Is there no muay thai or kickboxing ? I have to say I don't know much about the styles you've listed. I'd take up a form of jiu jitsu, but strength & aggression doesn't play as an important part as technique. I'd ring up a few dojos and ask them a little bit about the art & go watch a few classes to see what you like the look of best.
  20. Why ask God why he allows violence in schools ? The reply that he's not there is flawed anyway. Violence is becoming increasingly more common in our society everywhere, not just the schools! I'm an atheist myself, but if God isn't in schools to stop violence, where is he then? Everywhere you go, there is violence and it is becoming increasingly more common and accepted by society. Hell, you could live in the same street as a rapist for all you know. I'm sure there's a lot of 'normal' people like this that you have no idea who they really are. I walk through a shopping centre every day knowing there's a rapist, who I'd have no idea otherwise unless my friend told me he tried to rape her. Violence is a major concern and the effects of violence on victims can be devestating. God cannot stop violence.
  21. tigerstyle18, she's my worse enemy! But, she's good.. I've never known someone to have me on my knees & pleading to stop so often. I plan to kick her ass in the HSC in math, ext math, physics & english so then she will be on her knees! I'm just joking dude, she's my friend.
  22. I'd kick head height.. =) Lead leg to the head is pretty quick & effective I believe. Apart from that, if you can kick head height, you can kick to the ribs with a lot more power & strength, not to mention easier. Jack already mentioned that anyway though.
  23. Nah, that's not telling me at all! Plus, it's w00t - with noughts, not an o! Kind of odd how two people would go to the pan pacs, both be posting on this board, and one of them happens to be posting about the other. But, anyway.. Dutch, if you want to get bjjbarbie back for dissing you, I can help you. Just let me know, like, how dare she knock your elite judo take downs & throws! I have done 3 lessons of judo & I understand the power & the wrath contained in the throws. When I went to my first BJJ class I almost took a guy down with a sweep of the foot, no idea what it's called though. But, my point remains, judo contains the power! She goes to a McDojo she can only afford to go to once a week, so I think we're set to kick her ass. Never the less, I'm going to train in judo again, then we'll kick her arse, okay ?
