  1. All the metal that goes into a Buster Sword and they couldn't use the little extra to make it full tang? Someone should be hit with the Knights of the Round.
  2. Humans are the result of similar genetic experiments and when the aliens return, they'll think of us as dirty apes. Think I'm joking, laugh while you still can. But until then just remember what Moses told us. "Soylent Green is people." and "You'll pry this rifle from my cold, dead hands." Oh yeah, "Let my people go." Dang it I'm confused now.
  3. I think there was a lack of control of the weapon hand on the knife disarms, and the gun stuff needed more body displacement. The unarmed stuff on this video looked good. I like the relaxed striking.
  4. I skipped the grappling and replaced it with a cardio circuit. Got home late today, too tired to do anything.
  5. This brings up a thought. Does anyone here ever throw a rear leg kick, then land it in front, and then go from the opposite stance? Do you mean as in landing and then fighting from the opposite stance? Do this all the time. Its a great way to cover a stance change if you want to swap sides. But also if a combo finishes with a rear leg kick, it's not all that advantageous to pull it all the way back to the rear again because it wastes time and you can get caught in the process. Always been taught its better to throw the leg, put it down in front and then fight that side forward until you naturally change sides again. Does mean you have to be comfortable fighting from both a southpaw and orthodox stance though. Me too, also, I've found that most people fight better in an open or closed stance. I will change sides accordingly.
  6. It's better to simply refuse to work with a bratty kid than to end up hurting them. Your job is to help them learn what they want to learn. It's the parents job to teach them not to screw off. Tall people? Crash in and uproot them. Being short has it's perks at the proper range.
  7. Big Trouble in Little China "No, I'm going to see my mother in Miami."
  8. I second all of that. In a sport fight my hands will be taped and in gloves. In case of self defense, I would open my hand for head strikes anyway. I don't like to share blood with random jerks. Of all the ways to get a blood borne disease, busting knuckles on someone's face ranks pretty low.
  9. Master of the Flying Guillotine You might as well ask me if I feel sorry for the maggots I grind into my morning coffee.
  10. Just be friendly, direct, and honest. Just tell her there is a tournament coming up and you would love to compete. You seem like a socially anxious kind of person. I am too. It's a hard obstacle to overcome. Look at this as part of martial arts training. Being confident to ask something of an authority figure is one small step. At the heart of Karate is self defense, and in any self defense situation the confidence to not shrink into the corner is important. Your teacher should be a friend as well, so you don't have to worry about asking.
  11. yes
  12. Very right. Passive-aggressive behavior is very unbecoming of a martial artist, or any human for that matter.
  13. Karate teaches confidence and proactive behavior. Don't wait on someone to say something, ask. Tell her you would really like to compete. with 8 years of training and being close to black belt, it shouldn't be a problem.
  14. cardio circuit few rounds light sparring ground mobility drills all light, still sore from competition.
  15. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcecSNUTXaM The other parts are there on the same channel. For the first video skip to about 3:00. Hwang Jang Lee was known onscreen as Silver Fox or Thunderleg. One of the best kickers I've ever seen. He killed someone with a 1 round kick to the head in self defense, watching this I can see how. I don't like the idea of jumping spinning fancy stuff for self defense, but it's good attribute development anyway.
  16. MP, who was up wednesday night? 4/7 3 mile run, waiting till next week to start training hard again, trying to get my neck to heal up. His name was Brock, he works with Spaceman Craig. Nice kid, some ground skill. He was evenly matched rolling with Craig. The cool thing was he kicked me in the face WITH CONTROL. So I had to go all crazy Kung Fu Treachery on him. My Muay Thai sucks. You'll be happy, cause he's about 160. Said he'll be up on Wednesdays.
  17. I got some of me winning today, until I gassed and tapped to a guy in no gi that I dominate in training, then got outdone by a skilled little guy in a grand champion match. But, Alex, footage of losing the match for 1st place at NAGA pwns my heavyweight gi 1st place at the Ron Reed tournament. I'll post video as soon as Kota's girlfriend brings her camera over. I'll bet you've never seen a hadouken thrown at a grappling tourney.
  18. Here is a fine example of technique turning to crap due to nerves. Here's my first MMA fight. Unfortunately, I don't have any video of my other fight where I didn't suck. Here's 3 rounds of me defending myself successfully. That's euphemism for getting beaten badly without taking any real damage.
  19. Competing in grappling tournaments, point sparring, kata, kickboxing MMA? Post a vid here. I'm going to a grappling tournament today and should have some video later. I have one here from last year of one of our students, he's also my nephew. He's the guy that's winning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELMC030ug9E
  20. https://www.dorkly.com/picture/13815/tie-fighter-head I'd like to see his Wai Kru.
  21. I have a friend who swears by witch hazel.
  22. I've heard it said that Gracie Combatives gives rank to easily. I had a new guy come in today and was told he had a Gracie Jiu Jutsu blue belt. I've read the belt requirements for that and expected someone with similar technical knowledge to myself, though maybe less experienced. Turns out he has blue in Gracie Combatives. The two are not the same thing. What he did know was good stuff, they didn't teach junk. But the requirements for rank are not the same.
  23. Butterfly and x guard sweeps. Been trying them for a while with no success, and then something clicked in place and I'm hitting them with high levels of success.
  24. 4/6 1 hour light bag work and cardio 1/2 hour teaching BJJ 10 minute free roll 1 3minute round of Muay Thai vs Muay Thai 1 3minute round of Muay Thai vs my Dance of the Drunken Mantis(Bill Fu)
  25. I would look for a pair of black military fatigue pants. They have plenty of pockets, are designed to move in and look good with most other clothes.
