This is a question for a doctor, not us internet people. I've seen people spend years recovering from a hernia. Anything that irritates it can have long lasting consequences.
-
What should i call it?
MasterPain replied to wolverine uskf's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Kickboxing and submission wrestling seems to convey the idea. -
I notice you did not go to the ground. Why? Probably because it's not a good place to be in a crowd of idiots hitting anything that looks vulnerable. As a bouncer, your job is to calm things down. For most of us, the stick and move is a good idea, because it's best to just leave if possible. Unless a person is working some type of security or protecting someone, there is no reason to stay and fight. Also who's system designed for multiple attackers failed against one person where?

There's not much more fun in life than hitting your friends in the kidneys and back of the head and eating elbows.

I don't understand people.
MasterPain replied to Groinstrike's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I've been around 20 years, there have been a ton of people show up once or twice. Concerning your teaching methods, they're fine. There are those who think. They have hobbies like pool, a game of angles. They enjoy a good mental challenge without breaking a sweat. There are those who do. They run or lift in a routine that is repeated on a schedule to produce the desired effect. Then there are those that think about what they're doing. Martial arts are like this. Lot's of technique to learn plus physical activity. Some people just want physical results without having to learn much. -
Depends on who is funding it. A personal poll on a free online forum? I'd say the ability to type.

I know that feeling well.

I fought against a bully today
MasterPain replied to GhostFighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Casey Haynes is the new Chuck Norris. Seriously though, the kid was bullied every day, lonely and to the point of considering suicide. He fights back once, and gets suspended for 4 days from school, but also gets fame and support from all over the world. -
Opinions on Knife Defense Effectiveness
MasterPain replied to sensei8's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Hehe, that's part of "control range". A few miles is the best range in a knife fight. -
Some stand up drills, and some sparring

You'll have to fill me in. I don't recall that fight. It might have been one I didn't see. After a later crime, I feel less sympathy. You're right. It's not often, and they're not always fight enders, but I'd still rather be hit in my belly.

Very reasoned out post. 2 counterpoints, UFC 1 had no biting, eye gouging or fishooking. Joe Son vs Keith Hackney.

I come from a background with similar concepts to Krav Maga, and I will say that for a self defense practitioner, a couple mma fights do a lot to help you learn to deal with the stress and fear of conflict, in a reasonably safe environment. I know it's not the same as self defense, but it's a deal closer than sparring with your friends. Stage fright is physically still fear, and it's good to be exposed to it. It's not for everyone, but can be a good tool for personal development.

I loved Lincoln logs when I was young and now my little nephew plays with them with me.

[quote name="MMA_Jim" Why ISNT krav moving in the right direction? Mostly because it DOESNT have competitions between practitioners. Competitions tend to be the proving ground for fighters' date=' and allow the style to adapt, progress, and become even better. Its no surprise that in the early UFC's the most successfull styles were those that were "sport" styles and they easily defeated those made for "real" fighting. There were no rules in the early events- those that did the sport fighting had more real world experience applying their tactics. And finally, the good ol' groin pounding, eye gouging death touch argument. Know why I dont do those things in a fight? Because they dont work as well as so many people advertise. I've had people try to break my fingers, gouge my eyes, bite me, hit me in the groin, and every other "deadly" technique thats supposed to be kryptonite for every "sport" fighter and grappler. None of them worked in the slightest bit. They were more of a nusiance than anything else-laughable results at best. And finally- you seriously think a grappler gets into a street fight and tries to get his opponent to "submit?" I could care less if the guy Im choking submits or not- hes going unconcious. Thats if he survives the hip toss that lands him on the concrete. Why wouldnt you try that? Perhaps it has something to do that you dont train in a grappling art..... [/quote] Early UFC fights were won by grapplers. Sport or real striking arts were beat by grapplers. Wing Chun and Muay Thai are equal when Royce Gracie is on top of you. Krav is pretty much MMA plus weapons, if a krav guy wants to compete, he fights in mma. If he wants to fight mma at high levels, he'll train straight mma because there is no need to be good at weapons in the cage. That's like going to an mma school to compete at NAGA. I accidentally kicked a guy in the groin today, it was 2 minutes before he stood up. Out of shape guys who never spar but do eye pokes and groin kicks in one steps aren't very effective, but when a boxer throws a thumb in your eye instead of a fist on your nose, it's effective. It's not that the deadly stuff doesn't work, it's that some people say "it's too deadly to train" instead of putting on protective equipment and training. Ever notice that when an mma fighter is poked in the eye, they tend to have the ref stop the action for a couple minutes until they can see? The FMA people would tell you that you wouldn't need a hiptoss if you'd just beat someone with a stick. I agree that a martial artist should have a grappling art. Then again, my buddies poke fun at me for my lack of handgun training. Everyone draws the line of their training somewhere. Even SWAT doesn't crosstrain in precision airstrikes. Hard as we may try, no art is complete.

Haven't you seen You Got Served? Apparently breakdancing is aggressive.

That's the Wutang Zombie Robot Ninja Style. I assure you it is quite deadly. Do not mock the Wutang Zombie Robot Ninja Style. Devil's advocate here, a person could be old and sick and only have a couple students and still have a lot of knowledge to offer. Also, there is nothing wrong with a mixed style. All MMA fighters blend grappling and striking arts. I also don't think that internet certification is necessary or at all reliable. I could set up a website announcing that I am a MD, PHD and a descendant of Odin. How many 60 year old martial art masters use the internet as opposed to 30 year old wannabe knowitalls? But the martial science of scythe fighting? I don't think that is relevant in 2011 except maybe for a few communities that still use horses for transportation. My biggest problem is with hurting students. There is no call for it. To me the phrase martial science denotes a modern, well put together system of self defense involving empty hand, sticks, knives and guns. Running through the woods climbing trees and throwing knives is a blast. I do it on occasion. It's more or less playtime for big kids. For a martial science more time should be spent sparring, grappling, doing drills and practicing disarms.

Nice name. Brings back memories of Doc telling Little Mac not to cry. -
1. All except the last week, you should be fine. For a few days before just do light cardio and focus on good technique. Try a light jog on your off days and see what your body tells you. 2. Mirrors are your friend. Try to make it look convincing. 3. I believe a person does well to have a good diet and just stay on it. Eating differently for a week does strange things to your bowels. I saw a video once of a runner who ate a bunch of bananas before a long distance race who had a rather unfortunate accident. This is a family site, so I'll say no more. 4. A month can do wonders to improve what you already know. A month trying to learn a dozen new things would be worse than sitting on the couch eating cheesy poofs the whole time.

Opinions on Knife Defense Effectiveness
MasterPain replied to sensei8's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
This is knife against knife, I don't like the idea of being close enough to cut the body. I prefer to cut the weapon hand and arm, and control range. -
