  1. Would this no arm darce be similair to what i call a "super guillotine" or front naked choke, where you grab your own bicep and then put your none choking hand on the back of their head. Don't know if that explains what im talking about.
  2. 11/14 Sticky hands warmup Stick grappling and two person drills stick sparring Clinch work clinch sparring which turned into freesparring which turned into a bloody nose
  3. Let me just just say Bravo to "The Walking Dead" for its latest episode "Chupacabra". I really liked how they focused on Daryl in this episode, as he is becoming my favorite character. Also they are making me hate certain characters which is good as well. Not to give too much away, but it seems like business is about to pick up.
  4. We need to call TLC and get this on one of their 200 different wedding shows. I think people will either be very entertained or very confused, what is the fiancee's view of all these shenanigans?
  5. 11/10 wristlock tuite work trapping drills freesparring
  6. At this point im hoping for the full on graphic novel craziness, even though that probably wont happen.
  7. Who the heck is Dick Hutton???? If i had to pick from those three, im picking Jake Roberts.
  8. Was that plaque in Tharp or Zerrusens class??? Very interesting view on death, had not thought of that before.
  9. Thanks Alex, good post. I think that failure is not taken seriously enough by most martial artist IMHO, failure to control an assailant or a situtiation can and will result in great bodily harm or death. I myself am guilty of working a knife drill, messing up, and not thinking a thought about it. If this were to happen in the real world, i would be dead, but since the knife is rubber it doesn't matter. Sometimes it is necessary to practice with the upmost seriousness for the situation. This, I believe, is the basis for why in my lineage there have been many great combative practicioners. That intensity that even though that knife is rubber, its still a knife and it is deadly. For the Bujin clan that i find myself a part of, a great deal of this must be attributed to Hearst and Mcwhorter as they laid the groundwork for our attitude.
  10. 11/8 stretched 40 min continous freesparring followed by 3-4 grappling matches
  11. 11/7 Quick review over defensive postures and hand postions from side control sparring session that abruptly ended when one of our students injured his knee. Spent remainder of time, helping him get around to where he could be driven home. MP, keep me posted on his condition.
  12. UUghh, ive been very patient with this show but im slowly getting frustrated. It seems like they followed up the best episode yet with the worst most tedious episode yet.
  13. Do you think a discussion of death and mortality be a topic of discussion in combative arts??
  14. Agreed, I just have a hard time understanding the ethos of western ideals that it is better to grow old in a home than to maybe die young but being of usefullness or service to something or someone.
  15. I know this seems like an odd subject for a thread, but when dealing with a combative situation we must accept the fact that we may be shaken loose from this mortal coil. Two things got me thinking about this topic: #1: My grandfather who is 93 was resently admitted to a nursing home and is not long for this world. 2: My girlfriend was being bored and looking through the calender on her phone. She said that her phone goes to the year 2100. It occured to me that i will not see that year. All that i am or was will be gone. First let assure you that i am not depressed, suicidal, or homicidal I think an honest discussion about death is important when discussing and practicing combative martial arts. If you are willing to have to possibly take a life, you must accept the fact that you may die in the process. It is a something that, to my knowledge, is usually not discussed in most martial arts dojos, at least in the U.S. It may be an unpleasent topic for many of us, but an important one none the less. What constitutes a good death?, is there such a thing?
  16. I noticed today on the direct tv info that tonights episode is entitled "Cherokee Rose" and mentions that shane makes a deadly sacrifice, what could this mean?
  17. I am perfectly comfortable as a male saying that "The Princess Bride" is a great movie. Why, Andre the Giant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes multiple attackers require often different footwork and techniques. For example, side kicks become far more relevant when faced with more than one opponent. IMHO
  18. 11/3 Clinch work Striking/Pummeling Combative knife and stick work with student who is entering marine bootcamp 30 min freesparring kicked sensei in head/got kicked in crotch
  19. 11/2 Warmup Clinch and trapping based sparring Work on defensive postures on the ground 20 min freeroll
  20. I agree, as a substitute teacher I have seen may share of scuffles, nothing serious, but if things escalated it could have been bad. I have had students at the dojo ask questions about fights in school. We always preach awarness and deescaltion techniques especially in a school setting where defended yourself physically will land you a nice long suspension.
  21. We need to get Alex's schedule, Sunday works for me, and im pretty sure it will work for Bryan and Tim. We need to get everyones schedule, especially Doc and Walk.
  22. Thanks for the update, think it will be ready for our thanksgiving purification ritual?
  23. I am starting to find Daryl the most interesting character thus far. I find it interesting that the most "flawed" person pre-zed, is the most balanced and cool headed person post-zed.
  24. TG, couldn't find it on youtube, its really basic and not necessarily Jits specific. We will go through it next time you are down.
