  1. It should be pointed out that after 35 minutes or so of gravel shoveling, that we started deliberatly sabatoging one another.
  2. I had forgetten about the gate to the trailer, that thing gave me all kinds of trouble. I think for the next testing we need to go with your eco-challenge idea, and have a cross country hike thrown in or a deliverence style canoe challenge.
  3. 12/29 Light freeroll Worked on series from standing to x guard, from their worked a few sweeps and taking the back. My elbows and shoulders are on fire, time to take the rest of this year off.
  4. Wastelander is correct, awareness is the most important thing that anyone can do to keep themselves out of a dangerous situation. Women's self defense classes need to focus on awareness of all situations that may be presented, techniques are nice and all, but situational awarness will keep a person out of trouble more than anything.
  5. 12/28 45 min relaxed freeroll, worked x-guard series' from clinch Boxing rounds with focus on counterpunching.
  6. What you don't see is that shortly immediately after the first video cuts off, i had to run to the bathroom to hurl. not fun.
  7. Oh please say you have that on video...ppppllllllleeeeessssssseeeeee!! Tallgeese should be posting certain highlights of the test later in the week.
  8. When I took that machete out of its packaging, I got the heck out of my finger. Let that be a lesson on one of the reasons that you shouldn't open sharp objects while driving a car with a manual transmission. Post of the year candidate???
  9. To me the highlight of the test didn't even involve me, it was while i was grappling tallgeese and he says "I think Doc just killed Craig", soon after a large thump was heard and Craig(one of our resident mma fighters) had just been piled up on the floor by mulitple pressure point strikes. Good STuff.
  10. So far i have also received the super cool machete that masterpain had referenced. I also received a savage beating at the hands of our organization, and a third stripe for my brown belt.
  11. Well the bruises are still fresh, my head still hurts, and im fairly certain my skeleton will never be the same. Just an hour ago i earned my 3rd stripe for brown belt in Bujin Bugei Jutsu, this felt less like a test and more like being jumped into a gang. When testing in the higher ranks of Bujin, you are expected to tap out, you are expected to bleed, you are expected to vomit, you are expected to be knocked down, expected to be gasping for breath and wanting to quit. This is what makes it such a rewarding experience. This is one of the only times in my life that i feel like ive been in a fight, my next test will be for black belt at an undisclosed time and location, hopefully not to soon, because it will only get worse. But its not all just a knock down drag out brawl, you are expected to be precise and flow with techniques to overcome brute force. I was armbarred(repeatedly i might add), choked, kneed, kicked, headbutted, thrown over and over, hit in pressure points until i was on my knees. I was not only expected to take punishment but to dish it out as well, there were times that i had to apologize to my sensei for not displaying adequate control due to my exhaustion. At times i was just trying to survive, to hold on, to not throw up all over the mats. But it was all worth it, to learn and grow with the clan that has somehow not let me quit, and at the same time bludgeoned me on a daily basis. The diverse group of martial artists that defines the word artist. Not one member of our clan practices their art in the same manner, we have great grapplers, strikers, pressure point experts, mma fighters, karate men, escrimadors, BJJ practicioners and many more. I would like to thank every member of the Bujin Clan and the AAWAA associtation for giving me the opportunity to train with such a great group of martial artists and to learn from and with you. So thank you to Sensei Jones, Sensei Embry(Tallgeese), Sensei Clark(Masterpain) Sensei Bretz, Sensei Baker, Sensei Walk, Sandan Bein, Sandan Roth, Sandan Klier, Shodan Diel(Liverpunch), Dylan, the other Dylan, Craig, Also Bert and Ilene for putting up with our crap on a dialy basis and for allowing us to train. And if i forgot anyone i will hopefully add you later. Thank you all for the most painful/rewarding experience of the my martial arts journey so far. This experience has made me realize how far i have come and the great distance that i still must travel. Attaining my black belt will be the most demanding test so far and i hope i can perform up to all your standards Thanks for the beatdown. Clay(groinstrike)
  12. 12/22 Flow drills Stick disarms and defense(emphasis on flow as well) 10min light sparring All is preparation for the Bujin Clan Christmas Beatdown later today, should be a blast!!
  13. A years worth of BJJ classes!!!!!! Knives and guns are cool to.
  14. 12/20 ^^^^^^^^ All of the above, minus the yoga and curls. I found out that being aggresively attacked with a dulled training knife makes me headbutt people.
  15. The next time we rolled, i did tend to crossface him and grind him a little more than usual, but nothing he couldn't handle.
  16. A few weeks ago i found out that a student was bragging to his buddies that he had armbarred me while training. What the student didn't realize is that i was working defense, while trying to feed him certain things that he could work on from top position. At first my ego kicked in and i thought "That little punk, how dare he brag like that." Then i got to thinking about it, the first time i tapped my instructor i was very excited about it. Im sure he was letting me work things so that i could feel some success, but i was still excited. After this i decided that it was ok because the student was just excited about hitting a technique and that should be encouraged.
  17. 12/19 Knife drills with masterpain Gun retention drills from LEO scenerios, Bill is very good at taking guns away from people. He needs to be our generic bad guy when we work police tactics. Realized i have a long way to go, grappling becomes much harder when you have a gun on your hip.
  18. This is a very good question, i suggest that if you want to take things down a notch, just remind them every once in a while, don't be to proud to speak up. We have the same problem at our school, as tallgeese can attest to. It starts of friendly working slow and technical until someone lands a good one, then all bets are off.
  19. Mats, mats, and more mats Heavy bags Video equipment Focus mitts Sparring gear Marcelo Garcia to instruct!!! Note: The above is not essential equipment but this is just what i would like for my dream training area.
  20. My goals for 2012: Continue progressing in Bujin Bugei Jutsu With the possibility looming that i may find myself in law inforcement halfway through next year i need to start focusing on police tactics, weapon retention, and firearm proficiency, etc. Actually learn how to properly implement the de la riva guard. Start grappling more instead of just bludgeoning each other. Prepare for zombies by building mobile death wagon.
  21. Sorry to here about that, hopefully you can heal up quick and get back in there. A good uke who knows how to bail out of a throw that you have messed up and vice versa can be invaluable.
  22. So if i have no formal training and am in an altercation with someone who trains martial arts, maybe even a black belt does it make me a better strategist to run away and then hit them with my buick????? Sorry if this as viewed as a snarky remark
  23. There is a distinct possibility that i will be working in law enforcement in the next 6 months. For those of you on here(Tallgeese, Bushidoman) that are involved in law enforcement, what would be your best piece of advice for a rookie cop????
  24. 12/15 2 rounds focus mitt work at full power 6 rounds sparring 3 rounds sparring from trapping range
  25. Congrats on the promotion!!!
