  1. I think we as westeners have an obsession with categorizing things. why can't a certain technique be practiced in Karate, or Muay Thai, Or Escrima. Martial arts are Martial arts. IMHO
  2. 10/31 Saulo Riberio leg warmup Abs Armbar drills Worked on Guillotine with new kid Light freeroll
  3. Agreed, I really need to read "On Combat", I recently finished "living the Martial Way" and it was a great reminder of how to conduct oneself as a martial artist. "Five Rings", "Art of War", "Tao of JKD" are all classics and should be required reading in any martial arts class. From a purely self defense standpoint may I recommed "The Little Black Book of Violence" It is a great resource of any martial artist that is wonderful at dispelling myths about the "Street fight". Awarness is the main focus of this work over technique, which i believe is paramount to defending oneself.
  4. From my personal experience, i find that a certain amount of bobbing/weaving and other head movement combined with feints and other movements is effective. As long as you are not putting yourself into bad body position. I have been hit far more from trying to bob/weave incorrectly by either getting to much weight on one foot or bending to much at the waist. I think the important part is learning how to use head movement properly.
  5. Yeah That would be awesome, Also what are your thoughts on "Save the Last One"? In my opinion, the best, most disturbing episode yet.
  6. 10/27 warmup Self defense scenerios Grap defense Basic angle drills 20 min freeroll
  7. smart post!, Also the sheer media saturation of MMA. I see 8th graders walking around who can't see there feet who are wearing tapout or mma elite t-shirts. It is absolutely everywhere.
  8. This thread is for fans of the walking dead that wish to speculate on what will happen in the coming episodes. First question: What did Jenner Tell Rick before the CDC exploded??? Any Ideas??
  9. Welcome, hope you enjoy!
  10. 15 rounds!!!, what brought that on!!? Other than your nose hurting, how did it go? And why do you wait till im not there to get crazy It's too hard to show anything technical without a third person, so I just coached while sparring. I think we made some progress on him not crossing his feet and got him to root his stance into the ground firmer. The thing about beginners is that you can land 50 shots that could have been a knockout, but when they hit you, you're thankful that you know how to take a hit. Yes i know that feeling all to well, I vote that if our two new guys are up tonight that we gi-up, maybe give a speech, and then exhaust ourselves.

  12. So it would seem - although, if you cover my rock with your paper, and I hit you with my rock... I think the best way to test all of this out is going to require that we build these weapons to test them. Yes...that'll do just nicely. How did i somehow know that metallurgy would be involved before this discussion was over.
  13. TG, remember that upa escape and bring it down to us next month!!! 10/25 Blasted right into multiple attacker drill until exhaustion. Armed and unarmed attack and defend work focusing mainly on white and yellow belt techniques. 5 rounds freesparring 20min freeroll.
  14. I love the look that Shane give Tubbs(sorry i don't know the fat guys name) when he sees that all he has for a weapon is a scoped hunting rifle, It seems that even shane is thinking "This guy is screwed".
  15. Has anyone ever practiced this one purpose?? For example its late, you are by yourself, just sit there and try to get yourself amped up by imagining a scenerio and your response to it. What if someone busts through the front door. What if you are subject to multiple invaders inside your home. What would be your course of action? This seems to me like a great mental excersise, especially in dealing with with the unexpected. Anyone have thoughts on the merits of such training?
  16. Speaking of Zombie Plans, did anyone catch "The Walking Dead" last night? And was anyone else suprised that the tubby guy lived all the way through the episode. I say this because fat people generally don't have a very long life expectancy in zombie situations.
  17. i think this is due to fact that an alarming number of the people in our system, including myself are total nerds, closet nerds, dorks, or geeks etc. This leads to a large amount of time discussing things like"who would win in a fight, Mothra or Sho Nuff".
  18. To his credit, i was trying to exhaust him while sparring, so he was exhausted, pressured and punch drunk. So i can't blame him for throwing a bit hard.
  19. practically i would say yes. In Pankration, competitors fought in the nude, and i believe there were few rules. Also with a focus on wrestling i assume that your back would be a very bad place to end up. However, I would say that pankration is the forefather to modern MMA.
  20. 10/20 abs chest worked defensive positioning from moung and side control. mount escapes. 20 min freeroll 30minute boxing got mouthpiece knocked out by new kid, way to go grasshopper!!!!!
  21. Still hard to argue against a samurai or a spartan. The Samurai not being able to use a horse and a bow takes away slightly. The spartan one on one takes away the phalanx which was a major weapon in group warfare.
  22. Great choice of weapon with the warhammer, my choice of close combat weapon happens to be a cold steel kukri blade machete.
  23. 10/19 jump rope shoulders Worked defensive hand and foot postitions escapes from mount and knee in 30 min freeroll
  24. i agree, the more more people we have, the more specialized we can become. Hopefully if we can get our entire clan together we should have experts in many different areas.
  25. First off let me say that i do not believe in zombies, i use the word Zombie in the place of natural disaster, terrorist attack, apocolypse or whatever other cataclysmic situation you may find yourself in. Nor to i condone the activities presented that may be considered illegal, but hey its the Zombie Apocolypse! First off I live in a very rural area, the town i live in has about 3000 people and i am mere minutes away from the sticks. So my first move at that sign of trouble would be to secure firepower and ammunition, get in my 4x4 raid whatever useful consumables i can and head for the hills. My Father lives in a house that is atleast 2 miles from the nearest neighboor and is located in heavily wooded terrain. His house is also loaded down with ammo and high powered rifles, handguns, shotguns, Ar-15's, a few garands, and even the recommended M1 carbine(See Brooks: Zombie Survival Guide). Without getting to detailed from their, to quoted Shaun of the Dead "We have a nice cold pint, and wait for all this to blow over"
