I think that more overall commonality is that a criminal trained in the MA won’t even use their MA. Their only goal is to not get caught, and if they’re in a position of getting caught, they more than likely will use a gun to aide in their escape. A mediocrity focus before 2024. This is what gives with the Commanders, imho. 1) Commanders got a QB in Jayden Daniels 2) They’re fast like a track team 3) Ownership stays out of the way 4) GM signed the talents 5) The Coach, namely Dan Quinn, allowed to coach the way he wants 6) Coach Quinn plays who he wants to These are the keys to what gives with the Commanders that I can see. Will the Commanders keep their winning ways in the Championship game?? Anything is possible.

Other than in engaging in conversations, time spent on the floor can reveal tendencies whether they be unfortunate or not. One can always run a criminal background and weed out those who’ve been convicted of crimes against moral turpitude. I’m favored for weeding them out on the floor because that’s where you get to witness their character first hand.

During my JBB training I accidentally stabbed myself in my right knee with one of my Kama’s. How?? Moved my right foot forward instead of my left foot.

It’s 2025 and I still don’t want pockets on my gi pants. Call be old fashioned or call me close minded, but I just don’t see a benefit for having pockets. So I can carry coins or keys while I train on the floor?? Ouch!!

What about Babble?? Their TV commercials appear a solid choice for those who want to learn many languages, including Japanese. The pronunciation of the words in Japanese aren’t cut dry. A Japanese word can mean so many other things depending on how said word is spoken…with the emphasis of how said word is spoken changes the words meant.

Proof is on the floor!! Legitimacy is found on the floor!! When it comes to effectiveness, and effectiveness is everything, talk is cheap, history knowledge is meaningless, and so on and so forth. The style, rare or not, is not the problem, the practitioner is the problem. Either one can or one can’t!! Many can’t because their techniques haven’t matured yet!! Nobody’s unbeatable in the real world, I’m beatable, “you” are beatable but for those who’ve matured in their techniques have a far better ability to defend themselves. Those that haven’t matured in their techniques is because they’re still afraid, and that fear creates uncertainty. Imho!!

The end has me salivating for season 3.

Control can be achieved at contact, for sure, but many factors can work against the defender, I.e., not being mature in any given technique, stance/footwork, for example. At contact, that’s initiated by my attacker, I’ve the advantage. How so?? I’ve two open hands versus my attackers one open hand. My advantage at that moment is very limited, so my counter must not be stalled. Two open hands versus one open hand. I like the odds.

I’ve no more New Year goals except to wake up each day. I use to have a bucket list of new years goals but that all seems quite frivolous to me now.

Shindokan Saitou-ryu. Things are born and die once. A “rare” Okinawan karate style that I practiced, trained, and taught for 60 years. Its founder refused to bow to the powers that be in Okinawa Karate, so he moved as far away from them as he could…to the USA. Its founder also refused to advertise beyond the word-of-mouth, the occasional local demonstrations, and passing out flyers. Even here at KF I was severely disappointed in the drillings I received as to why our founder didn’t have a website and utilize all of the modern marketing tools. Our founders reason were simple…he didn’t believe in them; he was very old school…our founder only had one student, my sensei, when he relocated to the USA. I adopted both our founders and my sensei’s marketing skills whenever I opened my own dojo/MA Supply store, and never once regretted it or seriously thought about going modern day school when it came to advertising/marketing Shindokan. Neither my founder, my sensei, myself, and many other dojo’s within the SKKA network cared about all of that or how we were perceived by anyone. Shindokan Saitou-ryu is or has died, which started a snowballing effect whenever both our founder and my sensei passed away and whenever the tumultuous events that eventually followed after their passings. A civil war erupted within the SKKA, our once Governing Body, that ended with the complete collapse that followed. The SKKA network of its dojo’s have been disbanded for cause. Perhaps, I’ve waisted 60 years of my life in training and teaching Shindokan when all that I still deeply care about is gone forever!! I suppose that many Okinawan MA styles has or will reach their own demise caused by their own rarity.

I just want to say…how about my Golden Knights. Last year they seemed to struggle quite a bit but this year they seem to be more focused. I’m aware that we’ve not reached the All-Star and that some teams are strong out of the gate and then they unravel at the worst possible times. Hopefully, this won’t be the case and that they’ll return to the Stanley Cup and win another championship. There’s a lot of games to still be played and anything can happen in the NHL. GO KNIGHTS!!

Interesting topic. Thank you, Spartacus Maximus, for starting this thread. We are accountable for our actions as a CI both in and out of the school. Unless we’ve advanced viable and factual information about a student, we won’t know the true character one way or another, unless we’re able to read the minds of said student. Don’t know how CI’s of old in Okinawa and/or Japan knew that a prospective student had that “murderous disposition”, but I sure don’t possess that ability. The old timers would test the character through rigorous duties before accepting a prospective student. I don’t think I’ve ever truly seen and/or heard and/or read of any CI doing this here in the USA. I mean, both my Sensei and his Sensei didn’t do that and the were both from Okinawa. I might have a feeling that I can’t shake or raised hair on my arms or goosebumps all over about a certain prospective student but until I have concrete proof, I’ve only one thing to do in this situation… Expel or suspend or refuse said prospective student because my first and foremost priority is to protect my entire Student Body as well as my Staff for cause. Evil can be disguised so well, so, first assumptions or uneasy feelings about a prospective student must be acted upon immediately. As a business owner, I’ve the right to refuse my services to anyone without an explanation whatsoever!!
