  1. first off, the whole getting on the ground and waiting for the attacker to strike?? NO one said that... where you got that idea is beyond me?? and if you trained in Judo,JJ etc.. you would know that is nowhere in our training. 2. imo, Judo/JJ and all those practice at full resistance, if that isnt effective, I dont know what it is.. as for the groin and biting, you always cant practice that so you just have to remember to do it in a fight when needed. even punches and muay thai kicks arent always going to work. you just have to use what is thrown at you.
  2. yes, but in order to use your wits, you have to have the will to use them. so I vote yes.
  3. Any time. I believe the series is called Zatoichi. This isn't the original series. The original series is known to a lot of the Americans that know about it as The Blind Swordsman. cool, thanks man
  4. imo, its pretty much all the same thing to me. Ueshiba's Aikido has knife and rear ended attacks just like the rest. The only different thing that I have noticed is that Aiki-jujutsu is exactly what it says it is. part aikido and part traditional Jujutsu. i guess it falls into one of the "harder" styles of Aikido.
  5. the how long and how much weight you lose is entirely up to you. with that said, as Truestar said, water, it will help keep you hydrated. as for workouts, hopefully there will be a lot of running in your workout. and you cant go wrong with crunches. lots and lots of them. eating, don't starve your self for one. low sodium, low fat foods, high protein just stuff like that.
  6. yep, I agree. It may derive from Kodokan but it really has its on "thing".
  7. your correct, it derives from Kodokan -.- here's the link- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_jiu-jitsu
  8. 1. I never said I didn't take care of mine. 2. I never said there was any special honor associated with a shredded and stained uniform.....
  9. its not because of poor care. the belt will eventually become frayed no matter the care. especially in Judo. or other grappling martial art where there is ground fighting involved.
  10. I dont care if its a "marshmellow" or not. Im still gonna try and do what I can to get the attacker to get off me. if I have to strike so be it. im not going to rule anything out. marshmellows, pillows, whatever you wanna call it, if I go to the ground im going to try and strike him, im not going to try and not strike him just because there not as powerful... and yes strikes still HURT when ground fighting. who said I was imagining they'll work the same??
  11. Its bogus to me as well. as to pressure points, yeah some of them work I guess. but in any case, I wouldn't really try to apply them myself in a fight.
  12. I agree with this, but sometimes things don't workout as planned in a SD situation, and if we managed to get to the ground im still gonna try and strike him even though the strikes may not be as powerful, but it also doesnt take much to KO someone either. but I still agree, I would firstly try and get him off and back on my feet.
  13. if you look at the styles I am studying, one of them is Enshin Karate, knockdown style tournament just like kyokushin, cant get more full contact than full contact now can you?? quite realistic in a sense.... but I dont even think tournaments are that realistic imo. even knockdown or UFC.. I am now studying a Filipino martial art called Panantukan that has really opened my eyes on what I know and what I can actually use. and why should it matter if they pass your dojo to go to a kickboxing gym? if they want to. LET them? im not going to try and talk somebody into joining a certain martial art. Also, if the kickboxing coach wanted to go full contact and do realistic scenarios then great. if a Karate instructor wants to do the same exact thing. great. it doesnt matter my friend. its all about what works. not the style.
  14. In many ways yes, & in some ways no. Kickboxing & karate use the same techniques, but the approach is different. Kickboxing, even in semi-contact, is results oriented much more so than point sparring. I've seen numerous ppl when point sparring matches by bouncing on one foot with their other foot held in the air, repeatedly flipping it in the air until it comes close enough to the other's head for a score. That's the way they learn to use their technique in a confrontation, & it's a waste of a kick. You're not going to damage anyone with it, you're just gonna knock yourself off balance & be wide open for a counter punch. It does matter in the grand scheme of things. It matters how karate is percieved by the outside world because our students come from the outside world. The more ppl think our style is worthless the less ppl come in the door. The more karate dojos close for good. It'll be a long slow dieing off of a truely great art. 1, I didnt debate anything about the differences in karate & kickboxing when it comes to point sparring.. and the sooner people just realize a round house is just a roundhouse or a snap kick is a snap kick, the sooner they can practice just that instead of worrying which style it comes from. I go to my class to learn to fight, if it came from kickboxing? fine. If it came from karate? fine. as long as it works and is effective because that is why we are there at the school. to learn to fight.
  15. imho, it doesnt matter... A punch is a punch and a kick is a kick. if I kicked someone in the face would I say that was from karate? or that it was from kickboxing?? doesnt matter and makes no difference... its a kick. nothing else.
  16. wow, that is quite the workout man im tired just by reading it and nice on the weight on the flat bench man 235, I can only do it once, with a lil help.
  17. I agree. I am there to learn to fight. period.
  18. I wouldn't quit, as tough as my instructor prob is, I believe there is always somebody tougher out there.
  19. love hockey, I like the Penguins too
  20. I always thought they wore pullover gi's because the lack of grappling in TKD. cause in Hapkido which is also a korean MA I think, I see them wear the more traditional jacket.
  21. 8-10 reps for hypertrophy and strength, also activates more muscle fibers as opposed to 12+ reps which would more cut you out than anything, but will also add a little strength I suppose.
  22. I don't train weapons but if I did the nunchucku would prob get the best of me.
  23. The mall scene in "Marked For Death" is one of my favs.
