  1. Nothing? so all the sweeps there are in BJJ are from JJJ?, spider guard also? Yeah! for sure... lol
  2. uh? Where does it say that should be away from ground?, choking es #1 choice? WTF? what the * are you talking about? In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you can apply many submissions holds (armlocks, kneebars, footlocks), but choking as #1 choice? who told that to you? i see that you don't know * about BJJ... Chokes are includes, and you can apply them when you have the opportunity, but that doesn't mean that your principal goal will be choke your opponent. Another thing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu applies to all Kirves requeriments: "- doesn't take 10 years to learn enough for it to do any good in a situation " - BJJ doesn't take so much to be "decent" effective on the ground, and "survive" there. "- must be realistic enough for professional use". i doubt there is a more realistic system than BJJ, and this has been proved during years. "- helps you get the job done when the rules (the law) are these: - allows taking control of opponent without doing much damage to him " That's the goal of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. "- no hitting is recommended, absolutely no hitting in weak targets such as face, throat, neck, groin, etc. " There are no strikes to that targets in BJJ. "- any attacks to the throat (including chokes, strangulations, etc.) are discouraged " Many times you don't want to hurt your opponent by breaking an arm, a leg, etc, so if the person is too rude, if you choke him out, you'll put him to sleep until police arrives, or whatever authority. "- it is a plus if it helps you put the guy flat on his stomach so you can cuff him " If you know how to move on the ground, you can easily sweep your opponent (if you've got on your back), or inmediately you are on the ground adopt a dominant position.
  3. They modified some techniques so a weak person could execute them, and also invented some.
  4. No they didn't. Guard already existed in Judo, only that it wasn't used with often. Gracies modified Ju-Jitsu from Maeda to make it work for weak persons (Helio is a weak man), and focuses it more in ground fighting, they developed some new techniques from all positions, but positions like itself almost all were already created.
  5. 1) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 2) Judo 3) Wrestling in that order.
  6. a Linear kick isn't going to be more powerfull than a Muay Thai round hoyse kick, for me, it's the best kick you can give, in the leg (low kick), in the chest, or in the head, it is devastating.
  7. What do we think about what? i don't understand your question
  8. Who says i can't you? LOL! Of course i can, i talk because i have base in what i am talking about, i've trained Karate (shotokan) and i've not seen any school that do "hard sparring" (i'm not saying it doesn't exist, it could be, but is very extrange). And MOST, MOST school are competition-oriented, you can say whatever you want, i know what i am talking about, and that's the truth.
  9. BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing, Judo/Wrestling and Kali Arnis
  10. LOL, yeah for sure, screaming KIAIII!! PD: shotokanwarrior where did you put a thread about it to discuss it? i'm very interested to do it
  11. Well.. most karate schools do it.. hehe But that's not the topic
  12. If i were you and had to choose by those 3 styles, i would choose TJJ or Judo. Particulary i found them more realistic than Aikido. TJJ has some strikes, throws and some ground work. Judo focuses a lot in throws which are very effectives and has some ne-waza (ground work). Aikido focuses more in joint locks, wrist locks, joint manipulations... But, my best advice for you is that you investigate about these styles, see with more depth in what consists each, and try a class and see which you like most Good luck!
  13. That happens when the style "sell" or "give as a gift" their belts.. It's not only the individual, you can very very good by nature but if your style never train realistic, and do sparring how can you be effective?
  14. That's good then, mayority of school are competition-oriented. With exception of Kyokushin school that most have hard training and sparring
  15. Style DOES matter, but it not all depends about style.
  16. Of course Karate has more techniques than boxing, since Karate is a martial art and boxing is a "sport", but most karate's techniques that people teachs today are useless in a real situation, i think that since 'sport Karate' appeared, it lost most of its martiality (althought like i said, it depends in your school, but MOST, teach you useless things).
  17. Kyokushin is good, but others styles use gloves (shotokan, shito ryu, etc) Of course you use more than just your hands, but IMHO a boxer would leave better of a self defense situation than a karate guy, what would you do? a fancy kick, or a deadly technique? B.S If a boxer can connect you a good punch, you get KO, they know much better how to use their hands than anyone. Karate (Shotokan), Taekwondo, (both, many time ago), and now BJJ
  18. have you ever trained with a boxer? don't you right? Karate is also done with rules, and in an area that you can't leave there. Karate ALSO use gloves in competitions so you're used to punch with them.. On the street IMHO a boxer will have much more chances to defend himself than a karate guy, there isn't better hands than the boxers one (again, IMHO). PD: And please, don't answer me with all those karate's "deadly techniques", and all those "multiple attackers" stuff.. I'm not bashing any martial art, i am telling what i've seen and based with what i've trained.
  19. No way it can be a bad idea, it's a great idea since Judo will improve your stand up grappling skills, throws, and BJJ will help you with the ground work. Do it
