Jiu Jitsu in actual combat

You always say the same B.S... It makes me laugh that there are still some people who guess that there is a style that can deal with multiple attackers. -

I want to start jujitsu
Venezolano replied to Smiler's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
You don't have to be afraid. Jiu-Jitsu is a very safe MA, my suggestion is that you pay very attention with the breakfalls (so you'll learn how to fall and then not to hurt you). I think it's good that you train with people bigger than you, because you will be in disadvantage and that will turn you to be more technical. Come on, go and train, i am sure you will enjoy it -
Striking Vs. Grappling
Venezolano replied to cross's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
It really depends on the situation... If somebody comes to attack me in the street, i don't care if i broke his arm or whatever, it's a self-defense situation, after that i could just go away. If you broke his arm for example he probably will not be able to keep fighting you, but if you are striking with him, you would have to try to KO him so you could go away. I think grappling in some cases is better than striking because like some people already told here, you could just adopt a dominant position and there control your opponent until an authority person arrives (a policeman, etc), you don't have to hurt the person if you don't want to. But you could also like Andrew said, mount him and hit him, you have to choose, in striking you don't have that choice. To stop your opponent you have to strike him and try to hurt him so you can neutralize him. Now of course, if there is more than one person of course that i'll try to strike as most as i can and try to grapple on my feet. -
Good in movies.

Hello friends, well i want to ask you something. I practice BJJ, but i have experience in Karate and TKD, i want to begin practice at home some boxing and mix it with kicks, so i can practice my striking, saw today an Everlast Boxing Punching Bag and i was wondering if it would be good to practice kicks with it This is the link of the punching bag: http://shop.everlastboxing.com/everlast-youth-heavybag-e4665.html Thanks.

No problem man, you didn't offend me, we are discussing different points of view right? BJJ isn't only ground fighting it also has self-defense techniques standing up, agains unarmed attacks, and with weapons. Some schools does not teach them because they focus or in NHB or in sport BJJ. I agree with you that in a multipple attackers situation first thing i would want to do is run, second is if i have no chance to escape that situation is to keep on my feet. BJJ also has some throws from standing up like Judo, that could work in that situation, of course like i said, BJJ does not focuses in that instead in groundwork. And you're right, I feel more comfortable on the ground so in a fight (1 on 1) i'd go to the ground, if you feel more comfortable on your feet, you would want to keep you there -

Treebranch by what you say, it seems you know * about BJJ's history. BJJ was not created to compete in MMA, or as a sport, it was created for street defense, that's why it has that reality in it that many people love (including me). What you say is absurd, so, for you one on one fight in the street is not a street fight? LOL!. In the street MOST fights go to the ground, althought many times you don't want, you end there, so you don't have an "option". That BJJ is good for MMA? yes, for sure it is, and it's good for street fighting too since it was created with that purpose. -
Rash Gaurds

I've never used a rash guard, althought i've heard that it's almost the same thing to use a surf rash guard, so i think you could use it -

so you are you are the only mature guy here because what you say have to be truth? you could have to fight in a self-defense situation, and self-defense is a wide concept that can be interpreted of many ways. you say things without base. -

Bruce Lee said once that in a fight between a wrestler and a boxer, most times wrestler would win... that's because, like Kensai said, it's much more easy to get clinch and takedown, than keep all the fight on your feet. -

not necessarilly, but it is what it's supposed to, like a karateka is supposed to win by strikes and not by submissions, do you get my point?. The fact that a person have to grapple it doesn't mean he can't strikem, you can strike from stand up, or from the ground doing GnP. I have a different concept of "rounded" that the one you have. For me, a well rounded fighter is somebody who knows how to fight on the ground, on his feet, avoid takedowns, etc.. BJJ was not created to fight in a RING, like you say, it was created to people can defend.themselves in brazilian streets, BJJ has self-defense, valetudo oriented part, and a sport oriented part, i guess you're taking only the last one that's wrong...
