Hapkido tournament video clips
kchenault replied to Kirves's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Interesting. Thanks. -
The Great Communicator, and he didn't take any crap from anybody!

Moo Duk Kwan is all Korean thank you very little bustr. The line of the kicks themselves speaks volumes about its origins. No leaning into the kick as in japanese hard styles. Purely straight body alignment for more torque and power.

I used to have so much respect for you KickChick.

I've learned that your children can bring out the best in you and the worst in you. I've learned to temper expectations, because sometimes we expect too much. I've learned to speak softly and carry a big KICK!

The commercials rock! Best part of the Superbowl. I am a Chiefs, (read Chefs), so I dislike the Raiders. But I don't care who wins.....on second thought, I hope the Bucs kill the Raiders. I think their coach is a butthead! He has such a bad attitude.

I am completely new to this, didn't take part in the first one, but I'm game. However you want to set teams up is okay with me. I would just need to know how it works, I don't watch the show, so the only thing I know is that you have to stab people in the back at some point. Sounds like it could be fun. BWAHAHAHAHAH

Did they itch? If so, you could have had an allergic reaction to something you ate or came into contact with. Might be careful.

Thanks for even more clarification Deb!

Freestyler, it seems we have read or seen the same tape by Thomas Kurz. However, an article I recently read on stretching in Martial Arts Presents...Workouts, the three types of stretching, static, dynamic, and PNF should be used in a stair step process to build upon one another. I totaly agree that dynamic is best for developing "cold" kicking flexibility, however, you should not develop dynamic routines until you have accomplished some success in the static arena. I would type the article here, but that would be plagerizing someone elses work. I recommend everyone to find this article and read it. I have been showing great improvement in my kicks and stretching using static stretches. Dynamic and PNF stretching are for people, such as ourselves, with a pre-existing level of physical fitness. These last two styles hold the best benefits, but for maximum flexibility, one should use them all for a flexibility training matrix. And you should never stretch cold. Always do some light cardio first. I hope I have cleared up my position on stretching. Look for the magazine with Billy Blanks on the cover. Tons of great training and workout techniques! Pilsung! Maybe this thread should be moved to the General Forum for arguments sake. I never intended this to be a training tips thread. Sorry. I just wasn't sure where to put it.

Protein, protein, protein! Weights, weights, weights! Carbs, carbs, carbs! Check out http://www.muscle-fitness.com http://www.gymaddiction.com/index.html I'm not saying get huge and ripped, but there might be something about getting some "bulk" on that frame of yours.

Just my thoughts on the subject. The more flexible you are, the less work goes into throwing the kick. High degrees of flexibility contribute to increased speed, which in turn generates more power. Hence the reason I am training for increased flexibility and goin' for that split. Flexibility can also increase ones balance because you are not fighting body mechanics to achieve kicking height. It also increases plastic flexibility for kicking cold.

Magazine on Korean arts?
kchenault replied to Kirves's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
TKD Times is a good one now that Inside TKD is no longer around. My TKD "grandfather" is Grandmaster Jung, one of the founders of the magazine. Check out his story and site at: http://jungstkd.com/links.htm -
Distantly related to Claire Lee Chennault, Commander of the Flying Tigers from WWII. That's about as good as it gets for me.

The only reason I could see for a "falling out" would be if a student of high enough skill and rank wanted to open his or her own school. Most instructors I think might feel their business threatened and tell them no, causing the problem. Any time the student can fight the teacher to a draw, it's time to move on anyway. Always check the circumstances. I have a friend from my old school that was stripped of rank and kicked from the school because she wouldn't let the instructor come over and do his laundry anytime he wanted. Poor judgement onhis part. If he knew I had said this about him, he would do the same to me.

Welcome. Make yourself at home.

Christian Martial Artist ??
kchenault replied to Bro_Joey_Gowdy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I will always choose Christ over martial arts.
