Latest news: I have been to the doctor: I have Lombar Functional Scoliosis and an Kobb angle of 10-15. Not that tough ... I'll go to a Kinetotherapeut 2 times a week for some months. The bad news is I won't go to Karate for some month (right now I don't want to push my luck too far ). The good news is we'll do abs and back strenghtening exercises so I'll keep my nice muscles I do intend on getting back to Karate. BUt only when the Kobb angle will decrease and I'll stop having back pains. I;m glad I'll do a sort of exercise and I'll be ab;e to work my muscles there. When I'll feel recovered I'll get back and train without too much strain on the back. Thank you all so much for the support It's nice to see people all over the world care

Did your attitude and ego change when you...
ramymensa replied to Kenpo man's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My MA training has made me calm and collected. I do avoid conflicts and I'm ready to run if needed. My MA training has helped a lot with my running speed -
well i have some problems with the back since I was stupid enouh to train even in pains. Got back from the doctor ... for an indefinite period I'm not allowed to do any sports, except kineotherapy to try and recover. Believe me ... better take it slow. It's not an important tourney since you are a white belt and you'll have more chances in the future. Just make sure you won't end your career too soon just because you disregard your health problems. So .. I'd say you should stay out. Anyway ... keep us posted.

I'll jump in I love music ... Progressive rock, sympho rock, old school blues, guitar solos .. complex songs and smart texts to sum it up. I also love playing with Photoshop (got a job as a designer at an advertising firm .. hope it will turn out good), I alos design sites and spend some quality time with my BF. These would be my hobbies.

Thank you for the good words I'll be able to tell you more about it after tomorrow's meeting with the medic. It's indeed an awful moment, a day from the highlight of my life: on wednesday evening I made a dream come true .. got myself a Fujutsu Siemens Amilo notebook. I was and still am extatic since it was one of my lifetime dreams. After a day I found out about the possible future as "sedentary" person away from something I just love, Karate ... My BF was even joking: "I cannot believe this .. you are sitting at your laptop crying" Well .. hope I'll have better news these days .. Thank you all for being at my side

I love kicks. High ones since I'm tall and quite flexible. I also try to place some good punches too. If I would have to give percentage i'd have kicks -60 %, punches 40 % No matter what the skill is better I think it's important to try to develop the not so good parts too. I usually sense I lack something and then I work the exact thing, until it's OK and I find another flaw. I think it's better than just focus on what you are confy with.

Glad to hear it went well. You proved to be mature enough to call yourself a real graduate We are proud of you and expect to see even the pictures

Well .. no matter the results .. you've done the great thing .. got there and fought. And to make the event more pleasant you came home with medals too Congratulations for this effort. Thank you for sharing it with us

I hate this idea: that you need to do some "things" on the prom night. People ... that's something that should be done when you love the person and has nothing to do with the prom. If you've been together for a good time and you both feel like doing it, that's OK, but making plans just because it's prom night is not a good idea. Intimacy is important. It can break or consolidate a relationship. Make sure you both love each other, you want this, and you take ALL precautions. You don't have to "score" at the prom night ... If the girl hasn't been your friend for a while perhaps it would be better to lay off the case. Don't force anything just because it's the prom.

This is something indeed weird, but I believe you ... sometimes people are so self absorbed, they forget about the fact other people have the same situation and perhaps are not glad to see such outbursts. And I agree with those who said here that parents should be kept out.

Well, since you can still train I'd say to go and work out. It's better to work that just to sit and wonder why. I have some serious problems with my back and I'm very depressed since my doctor is trying to tell me I should quit. I think I'll have to take it easy for a while and try to train a bit afterwards. i won't be able to do what I did, but at least I'll be there. From what you say I think you've done Shotokan or something similar (deep stances, anyway). My advice would be to train light and listen to your body. Don't force anything. Unfortunatelly that's what I did and I might have lost everything because of this. Don't do this to you I hope you'll give us good news. Try to get a place to train a bit and take it easy. sometimes we forget we're just humans

Best for UFC/MMA?
ramymensa replied to MMACHAMP's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I think this is a bit biased ... the poll is OK, but we are getting to some nasty things if we are not careful. Stand up fighting is important indeed. You can keep someone standing and punch and kick. you can also go to ground and succeed. If you are good at ground fighting you can have a good standup fighter that could kick you ... there are so many ifs in here that we will not come to a common conclusion. Still ... voted for Karate. In a good dojo you learn some ground stuff too .. if you can incorporate that you'll be fine. And here we go again to the main problem: THE WAY YOU TRAIN. Nowadays there is no pure style anymore. We all try stuff taken from other styles at least just beacause it's "cool" ... if it's good information .. use it, it doesn't matter that much that's from another style. I'm ranting, I know ... hope you get my message. -
crappyatticus, welcome it's nice that you are interested in this, but Kill Bill is not quite the most accurate movie abotu MA. Anyway .. my advice would be to go into the area you live in and see some classes and get an idea. we can convince you about a style, but it should be available to you So ... look around. Ask and see. Afterwards you'll find a place you'll love. See if the people are nice, the instructors involved and serious, the general feeling is good and so on. Try a class or two and then make a decision. There isn't such thing as @best@ style ... you need to find the best instruction and you'll get results.

It looks like I have got some problems with the back after I broke a nasty fall. I fell on a side and for some time I got some back problems ... well pains: I feel my ribs hurting, and even the sternum. I have got a radiology check and they say I have Scoliosis on my lombar part of the spine ... that's a bit contradicting wih the pains I have on the toracic side. My spine is OK from my POV, the ribs are hurting. Could it be the pain is spreading? I will be able to give some more details the day after tomorrow since I'll see my doctor again. My sister in law (who's a friend of his and have him the "films") told me his reaction was something like "we need to meet soon". That doesn't sound to good to me. They are saying it's possible that my training in Karate would become history, that's a serious depressing news. I hope I'll be able to train again someday ... Right now I'm a bit sad I hope I haven't bored you too much .. needed to share the pain with some friends

Although some men are still relctant to fighting with us, they find out afterwards we are not such bad opponents. So we do fight mixed genders sometimes

This is a good rank. Congratulations for it. I bet you were exhausted after it, so you deserve some rest and fun after the big effort. You'll see everything will change after this, you get a better position in the hyerarchy, but you'll also notice more demands from you and you'll learn stuff you haven't got access to before. Great news. Glad to hear it I wish you all the best.
-
Unfortunatelly I haven't got to even see one, not to use. But I would love to someday.
-
well I wouldn't call them useless. Many styles have got some moves people think are just for the 'show". In many cases there's more to it. I think we should look more attentive and as a general rule of thumb try to see the "hidden" catch of them. Some details are hidden and after you find out about them you realise they are not useless at all.
