Athens Olympics: Tae Kwon Do
ramymensa replied to Kicks's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
There's no jealousy and no intention of bashing TKD. I really like the style and I've refused my friend for an out in the town, just to stay to watch the matches, after swearing like a madman because our televisions had some other interests and not TKD. Well I open the TV and see some people jumping around without any intention of doing something except for waiting to counter. That was my comment. I know they are some of the best in order to go to the Olympics, but their profficiency and training were leading to passiveness. I don't care about effectiveness in the street of things like that as I know in the Olympics, there are other things to care for. It's OK and I didn't expect techniques for SD. But I have expected to see someone actually fight and try to land a techniqe, not just hop around and get penalties. So ease up a bit and don't think we're just creeps who want to bash the Olympic TKD. If you read my posts so far, you'd seen I'm advocating for mature and intellectual posts, not ignorant bashes. We were just making some observations. I didn't know I'm not allowed to say what I've seen and how I relate to it. -
You have here the second most inflexible person on Earth Took me 2 years to do the front splits. The side splits have to be worked a bit since I have 7-10 cm to the ground. The advice is as said before ... patience and lots of work. Try to really warm up the legs before attempting anything, don't push too hard .. as I had months of recoveries instead of actually progressing, all due to the overpushing. Better slow and constant progress than injuries and recoveries. It's like a slow constant growing against leaps and set backs. I'd say the first one is better Try to work at home too. Watch tv and do all kinds of exercises. Try to do them slowly and pay attention to your body. A small discomfort would be present though, as the muscles, tendons and ligaments aren't used to this routine. When it hurts seriously, stop, or you'll risk injuries. My sensei always advised us to do everything slowly and never rush when going up from a stretch. The idea is that you should stretch and slowly come to the previous position. Doing it quickly can lead to injuries.

Athens Olympics: Tae Kwon Do
ramymensa replied to Kicks's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I've seen some transmissiond on EuroSport. The first time I ever saw Olympic TKD. Honestly I was disapointed. I almost chocked with food while trying to swallow and psyche the fighters at the same time. I was so irritated seeing the competitors waiting for each other and waiting endlessly. I've got all the respect for TKD, but these matches were lousy. And the guard .. or lack of it. If the same thing would happen to Karate if it was to be included in the Olympics .. I'd rather have it not accepted. I liked the protective aspect of the matches ... the people were well protected, though I've seen some blood twice. The problem with the matches was the competitor waited to react and nobody .. well .. acted. It's a good thing to be able to have quick devastating counters, but somebody's got to attack. I wait for another matches. Maybe I'll see some more commitment. -
That Funakoshi guy is considerred to be the "father" of modern Karate. So we'd expect him to be quite proficient

The best idea would be to go visit the 2 schools and see which one feels more like "home". Get the instructors to talk to you, don't be ashamed or afraid to ask questions. Pay attention to their way of behaving, the way they meet your questions, the way they behave with the students, the way students behave in class and so on. Do they look like thugs? Well maybe they are ... sometimes your nose is the best when "smelling rats" Shotokan is more "light" that kyokushin. In some schools you'll sparr light to medium contact. In some there would be harder contact. Shotokan is known for point sparring. There are also schools that emphasize "reality" fighting .. A bad shotokan school is ... well bad and the style watered down. A good instructor can show you the real thing, a powerful and good style. Kyokushin is known as full contact karate. Again it depends on the school and the instructor. There are dojos where the style has lost all his glory, and schools where it is just awesome. The instructors are the key I've chosen Shotokan. I respect Kyokushin, still my love is for Shotokan. You'll have this happening too. Visit the schools and one would just "stick" to your heart. A good sensei is a friend, a perent, a doctor, a teacher, a good person and so on. A good school is the one you feel like home, where coleagues are friendly and responsible, the place you crave for when far, the place you learn, respect and get respect, laugh and feel good, where you discover new things in you and so on

Hello there. Nice to see you in this forum too. Good luck with posting interesting messages and enjoy the stay

Thank you all The idea is I'm quite happy because for some time things have gone wrong in Romanian sports. In football we've got some nuveau riches who forgot the fair-play thing. Lots of bought games and this led to some very low performances of our national team. It wasn't the best, but at least we were quite decent. Coruption spread it's tentacles in almost every domain and sport was a victim too. In this hard time we were almost sure our gymnstics team would have to suffer too (the girls were first 4 years ago too) and we've got quite a tradition starting from Nadia Comaneci. Fortunatelly the kids (they are only kids) worked very hard and their trainers did their stuff and stayed apart from the money making schemes. Thus we had this great moment. The boys were always behind and just couldn't get a medal till now. They broke the ice and we hope for the best. All the teams were great and I've seen some great performances. All the winners deserve our respect, as well as those who went there. It takes a great dedication and superhuman effort to compete in the game of Gods. Congratulations and deepest respect to all

Welcome. Just go there and train. You'll be tired, unskilled and so on. In few months it would be better and you'll regain your skills. Good luck with it and keep us posted

Just a fun hypothetical question
ramymensa replied to Shorin Ryuu's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have nothing against it as it works in our Shotokan federation. We have ranks from 9 to 1 kyu and the Dans. We get to shodan in 6-7 years. We test twice a year for low ranks and yearly for big ranks, or whenever the "chief" knows we have the tenure and techniques in order to try to advance -
Here we go again We are separated in our beliefs regarding washing or not the belt. I chose to wash mine. In our dojo (a sport hall) some others train in basketball and vollyball. Imagine the floor So I go home with a grey gi and grey belt (it would show better when wearing a lighter colour ). After some weeks my belt would be just miserable. I hope Funakoshi would forgive me for my sins, but I had to clean the coloured rag ... because it didn't look like a belt anymore. Not to mention the "traces" left on my gi. So I chose to wash it. For me the belt is just another accessory. It's not holy. Is my rank and that's all

ROMANIA is the first in women team gymnastics YEY!!!!!!! And our guys got the third place (their greatest achievement so far). http://karate.s107.deinprovider.de/rom.gif This is our flag. Hope you'll see it again I'm extatic. In our small country this is the news of the day. We hope our boys and girls would do good today and tomorrow too.

Maybe you could try and teach at a rented place and meanwhile build some money and your own place. You would waste some time just waiting for the final place to be set. And by teaching in another place for the start you are able to win some money for your own dojo and make a class, get used to the teaching stuff and move afterwards in your dojo

What is the perfect style?
ramymensa replied to CloudDragon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I guess it's indeed to general. I'm almost sure there would be too few people (if any) to know and understand all styles in order to be able to utter such a decisive "theory". Otherwise, we'll pop in and say our style is perfect, and you know what .. each has a style that seems perfect (for that certain person). I fell in love with Shotokan and feel it gives me all I need. I know Chinese styles are great, still for me they are just another style. For me Shototokan is perfect (because I chose it and stayed with it). For others here KM, TKD, Hapkido and so on are the perfect style. Who's right? What's the perfect style? Mine, because I study it, got to know it a bit and love it too much, or all other styles loved by other people? -
Another stiff broom here My advice .. take it easy. Strained muscles won't help you too much .. Ohhhh the pain Difficult kicks ... anything that requires spinning and jumping

What every serious Martial Artist should never wear
ramymensa replied to Red J's topic in General Chat
I think a respectable MA shouldn't wear shorts (those that look like boxers or like the shorts little kids wear ... cotton ... like pijamas). I've trained with a guy who wore such "wonders". Needless to say I could study male reproductive aparatus just by looking at him. Oh .. and when he kicked high Lost my respect for the guy .. And another thing that bothers me as I'm onoxious and extreme Girls who come in lycra pants and blouse as if they were gooing to gymnastics. It's karate for God's sake Imagine the giggles -
Do you want to do it? OK. Than do it If it's an interesting idea for you (and I guess it really is), just go for it. It won't hurt to learn some new stuff. No matter what is said, TKD is still a challenging style and the kicks are awesome. If you feel your present style doesn't offer the 'hype', then take some TKD classes too. Make sure you can put them in your schedule and you don't overtrain. Be moderate and enjoy the new style. Not to mention ... make sure you don't mix the stuff ... Well ... the ..ll with it ... just find a nice sensei and a good dojang and do the stuff. I'd advice you to take it step by step .. the TKD kicks are indeed very nice, make sure you can cope with the movement. Try to avoid injury and do the stuff safe ... Good luck

The quote was something I've heard some time ago. And the idea I was trying to pass was that variety is good. As for seeing black from all the white .. sometimes seeing only a thing leads to some distorted view. It was a joke or something similar And drop the "hell" thing. You remind my little devil of home (do I have to explain it too? )

Personal training in uniforms
ramymensa replied to Kaos666's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Monkey and dear friends. The discussion is kinda over There's a monologue here (we're talking to the air ). So Kaos ... do what you intended all the time, wear the gi, the belt, a wedding dress .. anything. I just wish we aren't right about it and nothing would come to distract your journey to MA perfection. I hope you won't have any problems and we were just talking garbage. Maybe things are gonna be OK. Maybe not. We'll find out eventually -
Hello there ... maybe you'd consider correcting "Tai Kwan Do" and turning it into "Tae Kwon Do" (yeah I'm obnoxious again) ... or maybe there's another style (you can never know these days). Anyway the mistake is minor given the fact you've only just began. Congratulations for chosing to enter MA world. Enjoy your training and your stay here (I'm not that evil you know ) Take care of yourself, don't over push, ask questions when in trouble, respect and be respected. And tell us how you feel along the way
