  1. If you're talking about the "blue videos" they are filmed like that in order for the student to be able to see the moves. A kata performed in normal speed is quite confusing The Kanazawa clips are made twice: a part with slow moves .. afterwards the "right" pace for the kata (at least in the version I have them)
  2. Photoshop forums is indeed the place to be when learning and discovering this soft. Nice forum and well moderated too
  3. Still a student, helping and correcting my coleagues. I like more the situation of a student .. thus I can train like I want and focus on myself. Still teaching others is nice, but I can't spend all the time with my own schedule.
  4. With serious training you could stand a chance. It's known most champs are youunger, but there have been some who passed the "perfect" age. So I'd say go for it. But you'll have a lot of catching up to do, since you are out of shape
  5. Glad to hear it. Still I don't know why you had to double thread It's nice to have discovered a style that's working well for you. Study along and you'll have even more chances to be happy ...
  6. I have a coleague with the same problem, though his case is "lighter". He doesn't wear shoes and he moves amazingly well. You'll have to visit a dojo and speak to the instructor there. Some won't have any problem with you wearing shoes and they'll be willing to help. The idea is to go and communicate. You'll have some difficulties I guess, but they can be overcome by hard work and dedication.
  7. Coco, you've let me quite speechless with the reason for not changing to regular clothes It takes 2 minutes to slip into some less "offensive" clothes and you can do it in a corner on a hall. I've had a coleague who used to take a sport costume on the gi pants and top. Quite uncomfortable I might say So do change, It doesn't matter you live close. Don't be lazy, you're a Karateka And I'd consider a change of route too. Fighting with multiple attacker wouldn't be a good idea, especially when you're got a nasty neighbourhood and the guys could throw in some guns too. We're not faster than the bullet, you know
  8. I was kinda poor and got a Lexmark z25. I know it's not the best idea, but I'm quite pleased with it. I print documents, for photographs I go to an Agfa shop with my flash card.
  9. It makes me thirsty as hell. I think it's better to not pump your body up by chemicals. And if you do it, do it just in extreme cases, not on a daily basis
  10. 1. You can do 2. The idea is to move and stop using the elevator. 2. Leave Coke forever. I used to drink it until I realised I HAD to drink it everyday to avoid being sick. I suddenly stopped and for a week I was miserable. Afterwards I felt better and had a glass or two very rarely. 3. I wouldn't go for energy drinks either. I don't drink coffee at all and I think I should have my own pace, not one induced by all kinds of drinks and ingredients. I laugh at my coleagues when I see them in the morning drinking their coffee in order to be able to cope with the new day. Do you want to be OK and have efficiency? Eat healty and REST. After a good night sleep you'll be able to move mountains 4. The sets were designed to help you start the thing. You can find your own pace. The idea is to look for CONSTANT EFFORT, NEVER OVERTRAIN and injure and IMPROVE your records. Do as you feel like, but have the 3 things in mind. 5. Have no idea about this Gatorade, so I can't help on this
  11. Stop wearing the uniform. I really don't know why you take it out of the dojo in the street. I leave it on me only in wintertime with a wintercoat on it, without belt and only when my BF takes me home and I really have no time to change it. I feel a bit ashamed to have the people stare at me. They can do that in my dojo So I'd say leave the karategi for the dojo. Use "normal" clothing outside and thus you won't have people try to figure out if they can beat a guy who does "kuhroty" The best thing on the streets is to "blend in", don't stick out by wearing unusual clothing ..
  12. I've used MA in my life as a way of relating to the world, being aware and trying as much as I can to not enter"delicate" situations. I also avoid places where I could get in trouble, go out at evening time only by car or bike and so on. I try not to seek opportunities to use my knowledge, because I think a conflictual situation leaves psychological traces even if you were the "winner". Instead of ruining my day I preffer being a bit more cautious
  13. 17 exams (if we count only the A and * from purple and brown). This is double the "usual" number of exams. Seems kinda much to me, but if it's OK with the people in your dojo, than it really is The downside would be the cost, almost doubled. The good thing is that frequent and many exams don't leave time to relax. When you test in 1 year time you tend to be a bit relaxed the first period, especially after taking an exam. Testing in few months keeps you training hard, because you know you've got an exam in little time. The stress can be good and motivating as well as a tormenting experience. Many pros and cons for this, but as I wrote before, you are the ones to decide what's good for you 6 years to BB sounds realistic to me ...
  14. What if you take the BB at 54? What's the rush? Just go there and train. ENJOY it, be with your kids and become fitter, quicker, happier and so on. Train hard and you'll achieve the goal. If not, train and it will be OK even if you delay the big event. I'm kinda bitchy here, but I really don't put much emphasis on the moment I achieve ranks. I'm in here for life (eventually) so where am I rushing to?
  15. I wouldn't have posted if I wasn't almost sure I used to use tsuki and geri without any thoughts until a friend of mine very involved in japanese told me there are these differences. As soon as I got a real japanese guy in my sight I started bombing him with questions. He confirmed it. My sensei had a very surprised look on his face .. he didn't know about it either
  16. If you're already involved in a style and have good instruction from a sensei, then videos can be a great learning tool. I'm kinda stubborn into saying that for a new style it's better to not rely on them for the first time, because bad habits are quite frequent and very hard to unlearn. So go to a "specialist", get the hang of it, the mechanism, the basis, and then do the "research" by yourself, never forgetting to have someone from time to time check on your progress and correct. That's why we need instructors
  17. Maybe it's better this way. You'll have to take some decissions like this and it's better to know to chose. Karate is very important. So is your health, relaxantion and family. Tough decissions. Still I bet you've taken the right one. You are a good karateka and I'm sure you'll have other opportunities. Good luck in the future contest
  18. http://www.karateresource.com/useful_info/glossary.htm From the sites thread. Interesting page
  19. I've got 2 ex-s and I really don't miss them. We've agreed on remaining friends, but we don't go out together. It's just that we say hello if we bump on each other on the street. As for finding the right guy .. same here. I've been with him for almost 2 great years and I still fall in love with him each day. For the first time in my life I think about a family and even some kids (though I was scared to death about it months ago).
  20. I've had some problems with it. If I didn't feed myself I was sick to death. During the effort my stomach would hurt and I would almost faint. If I ate too close to the time of class I would get sick and see it agains (nice image karatekid1975 ). So I eat 1 hour before the class. Cycle to the gym and I have the energy to carry on. Of course I try to eat stuff that won't take ages to digest.
  21. GREAT. I'm glad to hear it. Enjoy your workout and be confident in the good things to come. Don't forget ... never overtrain. Listen to your body signals and take care of it. I agree with the fact you should get out of house at least once a day. You don't have to hang out with the bad people, but make aquaintence with the others. Go out for few minutes. Walk or run. Say hello to the people you know, dicuss weather .. so on. Try to speak to them and put aside your timidity. At school, chose some nice people and eat together, study and walk together. Focus on your self, but on the relationship with others too. The discussion with the nutritionist is a great step. Congratulations for having the courage and maturity to see you have some problems and you haven't always taken the best decisions. This is a sign you are growing nice Put some order in your life, fill the time with useful things and keep on doing the good stuff. And don't forget to let us know how you are doing.
  22. It could be like in American Beauty. You remember Kavin Spacey's character dies and "lives" to tell the story "from above". This could have ruined "The last samuray" plot forever
  23. Well it doesn't take that much to be able to blow the candle with punches (foot techniques have even a quicker result). I've tried this as a beginner at my sensei's suggestion. After 4-5 minutes of trying I was able to do the stuff, and my boyfriend too, even if he wasn't doing andy Karate training. Still you should be attentive not to injure your muscles.
  24. If you can beat him frequently ... he's not that good. And to let fear controll him is another big NO NO. The fact he wins medals is not that important. It always depends on the competitors, judges and many "variables". At the end he is still a kid. RED TRIANGLE STUDENT WROTE: It depends on many things. Some could be lazy (had some "examples"), with methabolism problems (that couldn't be fixed by the training) ... Still in a general situation we all get fitter and even lose some wight. I don't really believe in a "standard" weight. I've known slender people trying to gain some weight, even if the statistics said they're perfect as well as chubby persons who were healthy and loved their body. If you are healthy and feel good, the pounds are just a number ...
  25. Excellent post and article at the same time. Being involved in all sorts of task for everyday gets you to the point when you have little time for yourself and even not at all. Setting priorities and plans for the day could help overcome this problem. Many of us here know it's difficult to do all the stuff and even train, because we can't live without it. Thank you for the submission, too.
