Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think at your age you should let nature chose its course. You are growing so it's normal to be skinny and have that "unfinished" aspect, because your body is unfinished. I think you should focus od eating healthy and exercise so you help your body develop nicely. After 18 years old, we'll talk more about it Maybe other members here would have another opinion and we are waiting for them to help us. My opinion is that it wouldn't be the right moment to "mess up" your body.

They say you can't make scrambled eggs without .. well breaking the eggs shell Some injuries are common (I had more bruises at beginner level than now, but they still occur). The serious ones shouldn't be that often, they can still happen. About safety. It's important. Are you afraig of some consequences? Then protect yourself, even if others would laugh. I'd rather have them smile like idiots when they see me with a mouth guard than laugh at my mouth missing some teeth. I remember my instructor wouldn't spar without chest protection, though the match would be light to medium contact. I understand here, though. She received a blow (from me) that was so hard that she hurt after days with the protection, imagine how could it have been without it. she did get a hit without the guard and realised her body was more important. I've changed my mind quickly after receiving a mawashi geri from my coleague. I think cancer or other problems are not the thing to strive for and if they can be avoided, then avoid them. Another long post. Sorry. I'm kinda talkative today

Taking multiple MA's poll and question
ramymensa replied to Spaceman's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'm for multiple choises too BUT you've got to know a style in the way that you won't mix the techniques between styles and get a big ... disapointment. I think the study must be done in smart way. Get to know the mechanism between the techniques, the reason for doing this and not that, the particular qualities of a style. Respect them and be ready to wipe alll you've learnt in order to accomodate the new information from the second style. In some styles there are some rules and ways of doing techniques, in others these are changed because the focus is different. That's why I think it's better to chose styles that complement the initial one. For example: I do Shotokan. I'll take Judo and/or Aikido (they have some techniques Shotokan doesn't have and stil are kinda in the "family"). You could take Shotokan and Kung Fu also, but be prepared to make some serious distinction between the two as they have similarities, but also mant distinct sides. Another advice would be to embrace the new style with good heart and ready to change. It's usually difficult to put aside what you know and start all over again (and sometimes it happens). It's common to have the atitude of "in my other class/style we do like this ... this is crap" .. and so on. In order to practice more styles you've got to be really open minded and ready to accept other "ultimate" truths -
Every test is harder and at the same time easier that the previous (harder because they ask for much more than before, easier, because you got kinda used to the stuff and I think if you really worked out there's no chance you could be left speachless by being asked to do a technique. Ususally you are asked to do what you've done countlessly in training or combinations based on that. The only problem is how you carry yourself and surviving the test ) Congratulations. You've taken the hardest test. The first. Prepare continuously and be confident in yourself and you'll have more celebrating days in the future

I don't see the use for such a poll. We'll get to debates like in the other one with Karate styles tearing each other apart because we can't be sure if some styles should be put into the list or not. Polls should be made if they've got sense and are useful, not just to play with the forums. Just my opinion. And for the sake of information, we should focus on discussing not just making polls. I'm obnoxious, I know, but that's what I think. Anyway, if you make your poll, I'll come and vote

In few days I'll be a BB. Beat this Well, I'm just obnoxious. Congrats Devil and keep the good posting going. Interesting idea Patrick. It shows us even more that KF is always growing and developing -
Best place to hit someone?
ramymensa replied to GhostFighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I wouldn't go with the one srike philosophy either. It's important to be in fighting action until you see it end. Nice ideas here. Maybe we'll get even more. -
how do you bring down someone bigger than yourself?
ramymensa replied to Ryan gry's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
By posting endlessly Just kidding. You get a higher belt by the number of posts. Still it's the quality not the quantity. You'll reach a good belt (like me ) after some time in here. POsting stupid things is not the way and the belt is really irrelevant. I've seen here new people with very interesting posts. They don't have a coloured belt because they're new and post only when they feel like having something to say Regarding your problem. Is it really necessary to fight? If so, be devastating and ferocious. Hurt him, but don't exagerate. The consequences are sometimes troublesome. -
Soreness is common when getting to MA training. It could be something normal or a bit serious. You'll have to take care of it while going easier on the next training. Never go to hard, though we all forget this and do it. Hope you'll be OK. If you are indeed worried about it you could speak to a doctor. You'll know for sure what's all about.

And remember to never over push yourself. Injuries are not fun and they prevent you from working properly even for months. I wish I knew that

I use the IE browser. It's enough for my needs. Though I make websites I don't care how they look in other browsers In Romania there are many people who use IE maybe because they're lazy like me

Great job. Congratulations for this reached goal. A year and a half. Decent amount of time Now you've got to make a deal with the guuys at Hollywood and take Van Damme's place What's the next goal?

I think the "peaceful" way to handle the situation is only a cover. One must be aware and prepared for the conflict while trying to de-escalate the situation. It isn't a passive behaviour, although it could appear so. And it's important to prepare the "future". You should appear as the one who got attacked though tried to solve the problem in a peaceful way. I've read here about all the legal problems that could come after a fight and I think it's important to prepare your escape from this too. Just an opinion though. I didn't fight on the streets yet. I'm a girl, I walk confident and never go alone at night.

I don't thik they wouldn't qualify for the World Championship. I think it's a different set of matches. I could be wrong though. I was with England on that match, because Romania didn't qualify (we were indeed robbed by Urs Mayer, but that's football). The game with Portugal was great anyway, a heart attack inducing one I was sorry England was sent home, but they'll have other opportunities. As far as I can see Euro 2004 is not "typical": we've got the favourites out. Italy, Germany, Spain, England, France, Sweeden, all great teams were sent home. And those considerred the second level went on. We'll see what's happening next.

I'm still working at all of them. I put agility, because it was a quality I've always had. I could put flexibility speed and endurance too. I'm in a continuous development and never pleased with myself

Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan and Godan, the list for the first 5 dan ranks. Expect a hell like exam, many techniqes, lots of combinations and very high expectations from you. Good luck

Double post. Sorry As for the changes in the poll, you should be able to do them by editing the initial post. This option could be missing, like the one for deleting your own posts when they are not ok, or double. Maybe our hosts could enlighten us

If it has got weapons kata then it's no more the way of the empty hand. Having a weapon in the hand means you are no longer unarmed. And as for my researches Kenpo wasn't in the list for Karate styles. I could be wrong though. As for using the term Karate for every MA style possible, I got used to it also. In my country Karate is Karate, everything else is TKD, Aikido, Kenpo and so on. And of course I was having in mind the traditional meaning because I think that's the one we were talking about. Otherwise, please make a poll option for our friends from TKD, Kung Fu, Tae Bo, Muay Thai and so on I'm mean now. Sorry. At work Sunday. Guess you know how it feels

Is teaching essential for higher ranks?
ramymensa replied to Bart the Lover's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I'm for teaching. First some minor parts from the lesson, afterwards more and more till entire class. It helped me understant even better the things, work harder (you have to set an example and be "perfect") and so on. I'll be an instructor some day and prepare for the moment. I think even those who don't have this goal could heavily benefit from this experience. -
Kinda flame provoking and childish thread, but I participate into it. Best for what? For whom? I've chosen Shotokan because it's the best FOR ME. I love it and everything it represents and I don't give a dn about opinions that it's worthless. Anyway the styles should have been more in the poll. Guess you'll have to pay more attention when chosing the possible answers for a poll. You can still make the changes And Kenpo is not karate. At least make a correct poll or ask around before doing so

Was about to quit when I was a beginner. Stayed because I was at home and sensei and the coleagues helped me overcome my problems. When in this situation try to judge the pros and cons for this decision. If you feel you want to go, but fear you're too weak and uncoordinated, go and try to pass the bad moment. If you feel nothing connects you to this occupation, just move on. You must love MA in order to gain from it and be really happy. You're not there to please anybody but yourself. It's a tough decision. Still you've got to take it if there's no way out.

So he likes to give your legs a hard time? Why not do the same? Try to use his weapons against him. And tell the guy to slow down. If you're getting injured after every match something is not OK. Use the same amount of force and he'll become more timid.

You're sore because your body is responding to the new challanges and 3 times a week I thnk too, is a great thing. After 2-3 weeks you'll forget all about soreness. Keep on training on a regular basis and it won't happen too often It's OK to watch the high ranked students. Just don't use this to ruin your day. Look relaxed and think you'll be there too in some time. I used to watch them and always feel I'm far from it. Still I wanted to get there. After some time I have others watch me from the place I used to stand on. I've got other "role models" and at the same time I am one for my fellow students who are beginners in the arts. It's about growing So stick to your MA and train. Set some realistic goals and go for it

Beginner kumite : need best effective combination
ramymensa replied to goedikey's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Give yourself some time and work with someone that understands your fears. I was as scared as you and got a very nice BB to work with me. She let me land some techniques and showed me when I could get hit by landing a smooth hit just to let me see I was vulnerable. After this "treatment" I was more positive about kumite and me and my techniqes. Time solves all problems ... and hard work
