I found out that the best way to do more pushups is to actually do more pushups I'd do as many as you can now and just do this DAILY. Then increase count after a while. That should work eve if you don't do any other arm muscle conditioning.

Experience for me. I don't train in a hard style (shotokan is anything but "hard core") and after 5 years of not being able to train, all that's left is the experiences. The wonderful people I trained with, the sense of accomplishment I had when being able to land a technique I'd never believe I can etc. Of course the techniques are very important, but most of the time we're left with more than just a good spinning kick
-
ps1 you nailed it, pardon my pun. I train in Shotokan, so we're not too "close", but I NEVER had an issues with touching a man or being touched by one, as long as there's nothing else than partner work. So, I'd say you training with men shouldn't be a problem, unless you leave it be a problem. As long as your partners are respectful (and most people in MA are, we're there to train not mate), you should be happy you have the chance to train in such a great style that, god forbid, might help you A LOT in life
-
For me the main goal is to actually train. I come from a 5 years break and it's not that easy. Not to mention we're also doing some traveling and this hinders my MA training. I will do my best to train though and keep working on my long lost stamina and technique. Will take baby-steps, nothing else I can do. I wish you all a great 2011 and may all your resolutions come true

I think I'd just train and take the oders. I used to get all fluffed on such issues years ago, but now I just do what's needed from me and mind my own business. Sure I can feel it's a tad frustrating to be taught by a "kid", but I just try to not think about these issues. I think I am getting lazy nowadays, I don't like fighting that much for anything I don't consider proper as I used to when I was 20

I got some problems like this too, especially since I am a woman. I don't think we need to be seen as weirds, but the thing is that many people just don't get it.

Breaking boards/bricks/whatever in public.

I would go to. I don't think of this as showing up myself, but to help promote the dojo and the martial arts in the end. And a chance to test mysefl under pressure plus have some fun -
How old are you fellow martial artists?

Favorite Place to Practice

I like it more in the dojo. I don't have enough space at home and in our parks we cannot train since people would stare as if we were aliens. So .. the dojo is still the place. -
In our Shotokan dojo it takes 6-10 years to get to BB.

I think you need to speak with the main instructor too. I don't think it's a normal thing and he should address this ASAP. Otherwise, I'd think about moving out. We do have a lot of people in the dojo, some cocky students, but they were privately approached by sensei and had some sense put into their heads. Or they were just invited to seek happiness elsewhere.

I think something like a strained muscle or similar. Lately I have more "civil" injuries (i am such a clumsy person, I always end up hitting myself)
-
I never heard about this title being used along with martial arts .. We have a sensei and if the position is not related to karate or another style that can have a "special" title like this one, then we have instructor.
-
I have a similar problem but that's because I am unfit right now. And dehidration is my enemy too in such cases

Music .. that led me to work as a radio dj (8 years already) and web design (am on the verge of starting my own design firm after 5 years of freelancing). Looks like my hobbies turned to jobs. Now I try to not fall in love with anything anymore .. I can't manage more than 2 jobs

What do you love most from martial arts?
ramymensa replied to Greek Fighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I was able to meet some great people. I was able to learn how to meet my problems and do my best to solve them. I learnt how to focus 100% on a task and put all my soul into something. I learnt to manage my emotions better. I developed my muscles and my spirit. I look back now and I realize I am a new person. -
I think I never was too much time in another location to be able to look into the local MA clubs. I would like to do this, but I am only visiting for 2-3 days and if I go to the seaside there aren't too many clubs (not to mention that after spending so much on being there I'd rather be on the beach than train in a dojo)

It's awesome to see, but unfortunately I have a problem with the .. running part. I cannot last for more than 50 meters
-
I also noticed this is an important topic for many MAists. Thank you for adding it

Alarm and a lot of time. I cannot wake up in 2 minutes and be out of the door. I always need 1 hour to wake up, stop being dizzy and then be able to dress and so on. I need to put some order into my work schedule since this perpetual tiredness is not gonna do me good at all.
