  1. Now having posted that, you may find that they do a really nice job of incorporating the other disciplines. I like the idea of a stand up school working in some ground work.
  2. Most schools will let you take a few classes to try it out. Ask if you can do that to see if you will like it. You can then make an informed decision. If you want strictly Shotokan, it doesn't sound like the place. If they don't let you take a couple of classes or watch then do you really want to be associated with them? Also you need to find out how much it will cost after the first two months, including testing fees, etc. Good luck.
  3. AAAHHH 23 , like that's over the hill. You are the perfect age. I took off for 15 years and started back in my mid 30s. I was amazed how fast it came back after about six months of hard work. Go for it!
  4. Usually those products have fine print associated with them that mention diet and exercise. But how many people read the fine print? Rules of thumb: If it looks too good to be true then it is. There are no free lunches. Buyer Beware.
  5. Welcome!
  6. Welcome and ask away!
  7. Welcome!
  8. Welcome Warrior!
  9. Great handle....Welcome!
  10. Welcome Nick, I hope you enjoy the forums.
  11. Welcome Wilt!
  12. Talk about a lost art. It is a pet peeve of mine when people engage you in conversation and you can't see their eyes.....especially when you are indoors!
  13. Not a good sign....see the doc....just my two cents....
  14. Hey.....Shaolin Kempo here. Welcome to the forums. I would love to see more kempo/kenpo people post. Then maybe the dream of our own section could become a reality.....
  15. Your master has the last word on it and may know details that you are not privy to. I once inquired about something that I was not fond of and the senior student I was talking to told me a simular answer. Of course it doesn't mean that I liked or agreed with it but I had to accept that responsibilty of the situation rested with the master of the dojo. My two cents...
  16. Grandmasterchen: How popular is it in Japan? We don't hear much about styles migrating back to Japan. Thanks. BTW - The style of Kempo I study has strong Kajukenbo influence.
  17. Um, this is how the founders named their style. They were from Hawaii and had different backgrounds. KAJUKENBO: KA Karate JU Judo and Jujitsu KEN Kenpo BO Chinese Boxing
  18. Give the Kajukenbo a try. It also has a kung fu influence by way of the "bo" which stands for Chinese Boxing (Chuan Fa). If I read correctly, the instructor also has grappling included. Typically Kajukenbo schools offer practical self defense. My two cents....good luck.
  19. You need to look for some small regional-type events. That would be a place to start. Try doing an internet search with your state and mma or other key terms. You could also go to a major association website and email them the same question. They may have the scoop on the "B" leagues as I am sure they scout talent.
  20. ....or put a giant patch over it....
  21. Most of the super-heroes I know choose to be anonymous. In this case the officer probably did you a favor. If you had injured the guy, and he knew who you were, you could have your day in court. ...and so Mr. Warlock, why exactly did you pounce from the hood of your car onto the neck of my client...how did you determine how much force to use...are you some kind of vigilante...etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. You get my point. Of course it all could of been about the paperwork and being rude. I just think that anonymity works better for you in this instance than does fame or noteriety.
