  1. 6 out of 10, I just barely passed. I don't know how you guys can love the screem, it scared the **** out of me all 4 times I heard it
  2. Oh man you have no idea, In my earlier days I was a little less accepting of other people's opinions. And there was the whole awards with permission thing and the list goes on....
  3. I don't know I find him pretty entertaining and will probably see his movie, I always feel entertained afer a jet lee movie, well almost always
  4. Ah I see very interesting, I had though it was just a style with a really long name thanks for the info I leave a little more educated today
  5. Perhaps you would get more advice if you posted this in the "Starting Martial Arts Forum" I have no expirence in these arts, but it is a generally a good idea to just start one art at a time and later start the second as you do not want to be overwhelmed. And as for choosing an art all I can suggestion is to check out some dojos in your area, speak with the instructer try a class and see which school you like best hope this helps a little
  6. I believe the mind set of having no mind set is the best option, when you show to much emtionm you make mistakes, and mistakes can be costly. To quote former prime minister of Canada, Pierre Elloit Trudeau......"Reason over Emotion"
  7. ah... I get to learn the Katanna at 1st dan, 1 more grading
  8. I am from Toronto, I train through and the organization "Classical Martial arts Canada" It is run but Sensei Wallence Platt, but aside from him there is nobody famous in it or anything
  9. lol helpful advice their kensai, KerouacKev how old are you? I only ask because when I was younger I used to be much more frighten about stuff like that, but now that I am bigger it is not really an issue that much anymore. I often have a little bit of arrogence in my head now a days. I think when I see someone, " I could probably take them, they don't look so tough". I do say or do anything aloud but it relieves fear and nothing ever happens anyways. So the answer to your problem Think like an arrogant person but don't act upon those thoughts

    Test?

We have a written test for every belt grading, it must be 100 % correct in order to pass the grading. But if it is not right when handed in sensei will hand it back and we will have to correct our mistakes. He will tell us how many are wrong but not which ones, A very good system I think. As long as we eventually get them all right it will be ok. I do not know of a situation where it had to be handed back twice btw we also are asked several oral questions at the day of the grading
  11. miyagi taught yamaguchi so yes they met quite often, yamuguchi ran the japanese goju but miyagi founded the art.
  12. If I were you I wouldn't just base your opinion on what the school looks like, but ask to watch or participate in a class and then from there make an educated decision. Also go to several schools so you have something to build on, then choose the school that best suits your interest. And ju-jitsu fighter, perhaps you took the word out of context, or I spelt it wrong but anyways rabid hamster knew what I was getting at I meant that when you sign a contract it is generally accepted that you are going to follow or honor it, and rabid if you are going to pay that money you might as well get something out of it no?
  13. I aggree tobias with you but I don't think it as clear cut in the weaponed arts. Some weapons have an obvious advantage over others just based on the physical advantages/disadvantages. But I do agree with you in saying that their is not supreme weapon, and kensai for you to say this I think you are very wrong.
  14. I do a couple of them.... This I am very guility of
  15. Thanks for the info, interesting style kirves
  16. You have tickled my curosity, what exactly is Blue Fringe Choy Li F'U'T' knug fu ?
  17. The katana is a very cool weapon, so far I am still stuck with my wooden bokken though
  18. yea I've heard of the ice-hotel. Never been myself but it is actually supposed to be quite warm and comfortable, how this is possible I do not knoiw
  19. nobody knows why this could be happening
  20. Well they are essentially the same things, as the two versions are overun with simularities. When Goju came to japan yamaguchi added one extra characteristic to it. He added free sparing. Before then only step sparring (Ippon kumite) was praticed. yamaguchi did this as an attempt to make Goju more appealing to the japanese community. Now in present day there is almost no differecnce. We have recently had a few people join our dojo from okinawan Goju dojos, and they seem to say that the classes were almost always the same, with a little varation in the katas. They are the same katas but performed slightly differently. Kinda like dialects of the english language. As for weapons, neither style incorparates weapons, that would be kobudo
  21. I believe you made the right choice, you made a commitment, an obviously uneducated one at that, when you signed the contract. It is your responsablity to honour that contract whether you like it or not, it is the mere principle of the situation. Now when you choose your next dojo I am sure you choice will be much more educated, because of the expirence you've been through. Even the worst of situations can have a positive twist
  22. The samurai were trained for war, whereas the peasent were trained in self defense. There is a large difference here. THe peasents were not equiped or prepared for war, whereas the samurai studied it as an art and had a vaste expirence in it, as a sure you all know
  23. hello and welcome to the boards
