  1. Thanks very much, I like to know as much as I can about ALL the Aikido styles. My Sensei has said that ALL Aikido is different, your moves will never be the same as someone elses. Its as unique as a figure print. Thats the great thing about Aikido, is it lets you decide how you want to move. Like you said once you have got a firm grasp of the basics then you are away. Thanks again for the very informative post. Yours in Aiki.
  2. "Traditional", I think really only referrers to the arts roots. EVERY art has evolved over time, Bruce Lee was not the first to bring up the idea of evolution of the MA. Every art, whether is be Shaolin, AikiJujtusu to BJJ, JKD and MMA have evolved. Its just that the period of evolution of say Shaolin was some 2000 years ago, and its still as effective now as it was then. Humans still only have 2 arms and legs. Yours in Aiki
  3. I know very little about it, any one got any good sites? Especially Techniques? Yours in Aiki.
  4. Best of luck. It is pure TSD, whats the style itself like? Yours in Aiki.
  5. All Aikido is significant. I heard about it from the Aikido Journal website. Aikido is such a vast area of study, I think you have to start at sport/martial or spiritual end or you'll just get lost. I heard that Master Mochizuki joined it with other Japanese styles. How different is it to Aikikai Aikido for example? Without sounding to ignorant, is it more like Yoshinkan? What weapons do you practice? Yours in Aiki.
  6. Make sure you try to find someone that you can train hard with. I always feel cheated unless I am really knackered. I remember this Karate guy that came to some Ninjutsu classes and was using karate techniques in the class. I think that is one of the most disrespectful things anyone can do, as if he was doing us a favour! Thats people I guess. Yours in Aiki.
  7. The most simple technique is the one YOU are most comfortable with. Simple. Yours in Aiki.
  8. LMAO! omnifinite, alas Aikido still has those "non violence" principles. But perhaps one day I'll try it. Get those BJJers back into line. Yours in Aiki.
  9. Nice to see another Aikidoka around. I have a lot of respect for Yoseikan, very powerful style. I know that it is pretty different from Ki Aikido, but same core principles. One of my teachers was a student of Abbe Sensei and the legendary Tohei Sensei. It is very difficult to explain to people what attacking and Aikidoka is like, I think the best way is, "ever tried to attack smoke and get hit by a train at the same time". This is the closest I could figure. Best of luck in your continued study. Yours in Aiki.
  10. AMEN TO THAT MADAME KICKCHICK! Death is the unknown, I dont fear what I dont know, I only try to understand it. Whether I think that as I roll up the bonet of your car I dont know, but thats what I think I would like to think. Yours in Aiki
  11. But have you thought that they both would be useless in zero gravity. I bet Kano and Helio never thought of that! Silly men! Yours in Aiki.
  12. BJJ is better allround?! Where do ya get off with a comment like that. I think as styles they are very similar, I think Judo has better standing techniques, and BJJ has better ground. BUt then again Judoka have made a few BJJers cry when they specialise in Newaza ie Kimura. But Bjj is not better! Yours in Aiki.
  13. I dont really believe in Dim Mak, but I was defeated by a TaI Chi practioner when I was doing shotokan, the pain was very real and unpleasant. Whether its Chi/Ki, pressure points of biomechanics it was very real. Yours in Aiki.
  14. @ Jeffin, Tobais it looks like you will have to don your troll books and smash this newbee! Yours in Aiki.
  15. You mock Dim Mak, yet I imagin you dont understand it. KARATE AND DIM MAK, I dont want to lecture here bub, but they are from different countries. Please dont lump the Oriental arts together. Yours in Aiki.
  16. About 10 minutes to Aikido. About 20-30minutes to Judo. Yours in Aiki.
  17. I know there was some Tai Chi in it, some of the moves I have studied in Aikido, so thats sorta JJ. Yours in Aiki.
  18. Lion Genera and species: Panthera Leo Collective Term: A pride of lions Description The lion personality has the unmistakable presence of nobility. Moving with the unruffled calm of a cat and the dignified gait of someone in command, lions have no need to walk or talk quickly since they're never in danger of being ignored or marginalized. Every now and then, the lion will play to its gruff reputation by dramatically reprimanding a subordinate or impulsively making love to its partner with unsheathed claws. But underneath all its hissing and scratching it's still a pussycat at heart. When a lion is hired into a new job, things immediately begin to change. Alliances are forged and old rules are thrown out without regard for the feelings of others. In short order, there is a new sense of direction and a tangible sense of confidence that percolates throughout the organization. Perhaps because of their powerful personalities, lions are not detail oriented, for the minutia of the mundane irritates the lion, who prefers to concentrates on the bigger picture, expecting its mate to do the 'trivial' tasks of shopping, housekeeping, and childrearing. In business, the lion prefers to surround itself with animals beneath it in the food chain; offering leadership, strength and protection in exchange for loyalty and hard work. Realizing that its survival depends on these animals, it is protective and possessive with its employees, but at the end of the day, insists on taking the lion's share of the profits. In bed, lions are ardent and spontaneous, and the lion's lover can look forward to being the object of a wonderfully intense desire. Unfortunately, this enthusiasm only lasts for a few minutes before a mighty roar signals the end of the performance. On the positive side of the ledger, lions display their admirable stamina by quickly regaining their animal passions. There are only a few personality types that are able to withstand the pressures of marriage to a lion, and herbivores such as sheep, deer, sable, and bison are especially at risk of being mauled by its sharp wit and tongue. The lion is better served in sticking to relationships with larger carnivores like bears and tigers who can match the lion pound for pound. Was there ever any doubt that I would be this great creature.......... Yours in Aiki.
  19. Like Submission said, it depends on the school and the style. Very few of the Japanese JJ schools have full contact sparring. This is for some very good reasons, one, you'll probably break something and secondly the philosphys behind each school. If you want stand up and good ground work with sparring, I would suggest Judo. If you want really good ground work, there is no other than BJJ. Yours in Aiki
  20. Tonfa - Okinawan (maybe Chinese) Sabre - what sort of saber? Kama - Japanese/Okinawan. Two-handed Boardsword - not to my (limited) knowledge.
  21. I am definately a traditional martial artist and proud of it. However I was also a mono artist, I did not believe in cross training of any description. But I hope I am going to cross train in Judo. Not to change the Aikido that I love, but to understand it better, so perhaps I have "progressive" tendancies. Yours in Aiki
  22. Women were Samurai, some of the best ones were like Matsumoto Ai. I have the book of the five rings translated by Tomas Cleary. Personally I think he was a great dualist and man. Take Care.
  23. My Sensei says the only way to get better at Aikido, is do more Aikido. So in the same way, you have to constantly train in your art, like Freestyler said, its a different kind of fittness. I am hoping to start Judo soon, so best of luck in BJJ its a great system. Take Care.
  24. Well............... you see in Aikido, we are there is no competition. So this sort of x vs y is discouraged. However I cant denie that I would like to test my skills against a good jujutsuka.
