  1. There is alot to this, if you are interested, Shaolin Kung Fu by Wong Kiew Kit is a god book. Also, if you are interested in the Wudang Kung Fu internal styles anything by Sun Lu Tang and Wong Kiew Kit. Here is a some good link: http://www.shaolin.com/page.asp?content_id=972 Hope this helps.
  2. Aikido is SPORT, its Budo! If other systems ie Tomiki choose to turn the Aikido system into a sport, then it is TOMIKI that is sport and not Aikido. Please specify styles when you make such uneducated generalisations. TKD, oringally was a "real" fighting system and not a sport. Same for Shotokan, however, so called masters reduce these styles to sport. This does not mean they all are, or that they were intended to be that way. this is Aikido as John G said, "A popular style of jujitsu is aikido, which uses wrist, elbow, and shoulder twists and graceful falls; it is noncompetitive and incorporates various spiritual concepts" Not sport. Also, I have nothing but respect for Shaolin, but dont get on the old Kung Fu superiority horse. We all know its a destructive system, yet the SHAOLIN oringally never intended it to be used in that manner. So is it wrong for someone to practice Shaolin other than for its oringal purpose of mediation? Something for you to think about Diamond. Take Care.
  3. Remember that fear is nothing. It has no physical form, YOU create fear. For example, if the mighty KickChick was going to fight me, I would fear her. She herself is not making me afraid, I am creating fear out of........anything..... for example, I might fear what she could do to me, or what will happen if I am defeated. It is a life times work to push these self defeating concepts out of your mind. Take Care
  4. Indeed you could, in my experience in Aikido and Ninjutsu, you can "intercept" the on coming arm. This is what Bruce Lee was talking about in length. Wing Chun concerns itself with this sort of engagement a lot also, the important thing to remember is that to finish some one, you have to go for a lock, throw or punchs to the main body. Take Care.
  5. What do you think about Emin and his Ving Tsun anti grappling methods? Take Care.
  6. I am a Base-defender. What's mine is mine, and I make sure everyone knows it. Nobody invades my space without permission - I'd destroy everything I own before letting someone take it from me. I tend to be forward-facing, which is both a strength and a weakness. COOL! Take CARe.
  7. Not bad, but O Sensei was 8.5 STONE! Thats 128 pounds! So I guess the moral of the story is size is'nt everything. Take Care.
  8. Caffeine King, can I congratulate you on your fine choice of Martial Arts system, that being Aikido. Oh and good luck with your thesis. Take Care.
  9. Can I be in your club, I am 19, which is 20 ish.............. Take Care.
  10. Welcome Killer, its a shame that you cant get back into Karate, was it so obviously ment a lot to you. The Book of Five Rings is truely excellent, although my favorite athor will always be O Sensei Ueshiba. Look forward to talking to you Take Care, Chris
  11. Could you explain what a single/Double Leg takedown is? I mean more specifically? Its just that I have very little knowledge of BJJ techniques. Take Care.
  12. Personnally, at my very early level of Aikido, I would rather someone actually grab me, from a grab I could much easier put on a Nikkyo, Sankyo or Kote Gashi than from strikes. I was just wondering how BJJ take downs actually work? Where do they grab to facilitate the take down? (Dont mean to pick on BJJ, but they do sort of have the monopoly on ground work). Take Care.
  13. I am not talking about a real fight. Most of us fully appreciate the fight dynamic, and prediction is nearly impossable. we are talking about skilled fighters from different systems and how you would deal with it. Just because I have fallen, does not mean my training has failed me. Take CAre. Ps, welcome to the forum.
  14. I know what you mean. All karate is great so what ever you end up with I am sure will be beneficial. Take Care.
  15. lol. Well getting into Martial arts is the best thing for you. Start easy and work your way back up to the hard stuff. What style are you thinking about? Take Care.
  16. Driving is great dont worry about it....
  17. Thai_Kick can you explain what a "sprawl" is? KickChick, what ya say is so very true, with powerful stand up techniques and solid stances, Grapplers would have a really tough time. Take Care.
  18. I was pondering earlier, how you would prevent the fight going to the ground in a prolonged engagment. I know that BJJ et la, is very popular at the moment, also the idea of "anti grappling" is'nt. So how would you stop the fight going down to the ground? Take Care/
  19. There are no limits. Take Care.
  20.:lol::lol::lol:, Very funny Tobias. Take Care.
  21. Very true, especially number 2. Apart from Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Steven Seagal films. Also, I think when you tell people that you do MA's, they will do there upmost to make sure the technique you are trying to show them does'nt work. take Care.
  22. If you could spar with anyone on Karate Forums, purely on what you know about them, who would it be? Take Care *DISCLAIMER, this is only for a laugh*
