Different JJ styles.
Kensai replied to superleeds's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Sorry Venezolano so I did. But I was merely pointing out that it is "less" complete, in that its stand up "game" as you put it, is less than that of karate. So they would compliment eachother. If you catch my drift. Take Care. -
Your first submission

I think mine was a Nikkyo pin. Took me ages to figure it out, I must have been trying to put it on for about 10 minutes. But now, its on in seconds Mwhahahahaha! Take Care. -

No problem XpOiSoN FrEeX, I can see that it could be taken that way. Actually I was just looking at a Small Circle JJ book. I might get it. Unforunately around where I live, the styles are rather limited. But I think I would enjoy a class. take Care. -

XpOiSoN FrEeX, I didnt say that Small Circle was'nt a complete system. I just said it was not traditional. Sorry if you thought that. Also I would hope that the Karate guy in that tape was not the best that Shotokan had to offer. He was not so good. I am sure that there are better. So its not really a measure of Shotokan. Venezolano, I only know a little about BJJ, but from what I have seen in clubs and in The essence of BJJ by Machado, there is not alot of stand up. Take Care. -

Jujutsu has many many styles. Very few of which you will find in the western world. Kage Jujutsu, Aikijutsu, Aikido, etc......... along with the less "traditional" styles of Small Circle and BJJ. Personally, the traditional JJ styles are infinetly more complete, covering a wide area of combat from unarmed to armed and single to multiple opponents. If you were going to drop karate, I would say do a complete system like Aikido, Aikijutsu and traditional JJ styles. If you are going to carry on with Karate, then do a less complete system that wont contradict what you have learnt in stand up fighting like BJJ. For example, Aikido throws punchs very different to that of Karate, so if you did both, then you would have very different teachings. However BJJ teachs only ground fighting, and not really punching and kicking, so they will compliment eachother, and not contridict. Just IMHO ofcourse. Take Care. -
Shootfighting is the name. I think that is what you are asking? Take Care.

What has martial arts taught you????
Kensai replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
lol G95, I can agree to that. A strong mind equals a strong body, or one that is well coordinated. If you have a well coordinated body and good balance, then you have power and speed that can be applied to a "unpleasant" situation. Take Care. -
Dont listen to Thai_Kick, he is just jealous because MT does'nt have weapons training....lol. Both are interesting weapons, personally I like the Kama. Obviously in the real world not really appliable. The Kama has a unique quality in that its a curved weapon, and it is very different from the other 4 you mentioned in your above post. Where as the Sai will be very similiar to that of the knife. Thats only IMHO ofcourse. Take Care.

Self Defense or Looks?
Kensai replied to BlackDragon777's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Aikido doesnt really have any fancy stuff, its all basic and useable. Aikido does not have any kicks, or fancy strikes. It depends really what you are in MA's for, for sport and entertainment or self defence. Take Care. -

Aikido Strike.
Kensai replied to Kensai's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Shaolin cant enter UFC, mainly because they are BUDDISTS! I was talking to some people at my Dojo about UFC, unfortunately Aikido is not really allowed to enter, because its ALL small joint manipulation, which is baned under current UFC rules. The only sparring in Aikido is called "shiai" which means mutual death. Basically its a fight to the death. The mutual bit means that one dies physically and his soul is relised back into the universe (buddist beliefs), the one that HAS killed although remains "alive" loses his soul because he has killed. I love the Aikido Hakama (trousers/pants), but they are an art in themselves to actually move effectively in them with out falling strait on your face. Thai_Kick, respect Shaolin fighting abilities, see these guys and I think even you would have to take a step back. -
As I have been watching alot of these Style Vs Style clips lately, I have noticed the traditional stylists (TKD, WC and Kung Fu) getting destoryed. So I thought I would have a look for some Aikido ones. Unfortunately I could not find any Aikido Vs, but just to show the the power in Aikido "strikes", I thought I would share this vid. http://www.aikidofaq.com/video/chiba_wakeup.mov Take Care

Congratulations on your grading. The essence of being a good martial artist is using what you got. We cant all be 300 pound monsters. Look at O Sensei he was only a mere 7 stone, but defeated numours Sumo. The application of the mind is SO important, alas this just go's in one ear and comes out the other with some MAists. Whats he like as a person, from what you saw? Is he one of the bad mouthing ones? I must say that watching more and more BJJ, I must agree it does have a level of skill to it. lol. Just joking. Take Care. -
Lots of breakfalling, other than it being a really great and natural way of warming up your body before the real stuff starts. After doing alot of them, you dont get dizzy and it makes you stomach legs, neck and back strong. Also reading lots about other styles, I like to look at a particular technique say Shaolin Kung Fu's 'Two Dragons dive for pearls' and think how I would counter it using was I know. More of a mental challenge than anything else. Take Care.

I have seen some WC. The forms are usually alot more acurrate, with more power behind each strike block........etc. This WC guy seemed to have none of that. I would agree that he was brave to get stuck in there, but the Karate fighter was just such much better, he took his time, well placed strikes. Take Care.
