  1. It tends to be that way. The one you least expect is the one that is the best. I am hoping to go to some Martial Arts Seminars at some point, although Aikido has no competition (other than Tomiki style, but we dont talk about that....... lol), I just love talking to people who know MA about MA, whatever the style. I think a WC practioner would stand as good a chance as any in a UFC, but thats for another thread. What do you train in punch drunk? Take Care
  2. Congratulations on your match, alas there is no competition in Aikido so I cant win any lol. The back story is actually suprisingly childish, Master Ling Ting, was doing a seminar, somewhere cant remember where and some of Master Cheungs students were there. Ling Ting ask them to try and get though his guard, and one of the students managed to slap him in the face. Now some how this got Ling Ting to send Emin to defeat Master Cheung at a seminar in Germany. Thats about it really. Very sad that Ling Ting had to do that, you would have thought he would have been more mature. About Emin and Gracies, the only reason he has challenged them is to stop the Gracies knocking other styles. Not sure that it has really helped, all I know is that I would love to be in the front row of that fight. Take care.
  3. I have seen the video of the attack. Personally it looked very soppy and the only thing that Emin looked like he was trained in was rugby. lol. Sifu Cheung got Emin in head lock and started to poke his eyes out. Then Sifu let go, then Emin came in again, knocked Sifu to the floor, (not though skill, but because it was a shiny wooden floor, just polished) then the police were called and Emin did a runner. Nothing to be proud of. I dunno about the Gracies but the challenge is on his website, but it would be an interesting fight. Take Care.
  4. I would agree with Kyle-San, getting to a high level in Aikido, I would not need any other styles. THere is nothing I would want to add to Aikido either. Take Care.
  5. For me, the best weapons would be my hands. Take Care.
  6. Could not agree more LeaF. Take Care.
  7. For me he is a great "fighter". The style of Wing Chun that he studys is that taught by Sifu Ling Ting. Its pretty effective, I have seen tapes of him doing this "anti grappling" to me it just looks like kicking and punching on the ground. I respect him also for issueing a formal challenge to the Gracie family, which they have yet to reply. However, attacking Master Cheung (Traditional WT master) from behind, other than really stupid (attacking a master for goodness sake!) it is cowardly. I think he is trying to bring WT to the same level as MT and BJJ, in that it would be more of a "fighting" style rather than the spritual and non violent oringal purpose. Shame. Take Care.
  8. Walk away, always, I would never want to hurt any of my friends. But if it could not be avoided then a wrist lock, something that is more controlling than painful. Take Care.
  9. Yea I agree Jack, I use that one mainly after doing lots of tobi ukemi. It settles you head nicely. Take Care.
  10. I dont think it is, its actually a BJJ thing. I think its more like Kumite/Randori, where they fight with normal cloths on and no holds are barred. I think Vale Tudo is the portuages word for No holds barred. Take Care.
  11. COULD SHAOLIN BE EFFECTIVE! LOL! YES! WING CHUN IS EFFECTIVE MAUY THAI IS EFFECTIVE Take Care.
  12. What is shootfighting ckd, more specifically what is a "shoot"? Take Care.
  13. I know, I just dont think you need your progression stated in a colour of a belt or sash. It's not really important. Take Care.
  14. The belt system is a Japanese and korean thing. Orignally you only had white belts and black belts. White signals purity and black the ablilty to kill someone, as most Dan grades can. Then as the black wore off the black belt, it would return more white, so returning to purity with the techniques you have learnt, so coming full circle. The sashs in Chinese MA, are more to signify the style. So Red is tiger, gold is dragon, green is mantis or snake (cant remember) etc..... There is no such grading system in Chinese Martial arts. So it could either be a westernised version or alas a mcdojo to pull people though the door. Take Care.
  15. OK Thai Kick, I agree. I cant name any Mauy Thai fighters, so I cant really form a complete arguement. Take Care.
  16. I also thought that inyctrotter. Take Care.
  17. No offence, but I shall do as I wish. I am only stating that from what I read of your replies, they are a little one sided. I can have an opiniuon right, like you said in another post, "freedom of speech" For you to implie that Shaolin cant be used in the street is wrong, you then appeared to know nothing of Shaolin, so therefore ignorant. I merely disagreed with your "fact" and I use that term losely, that MT is the greatest stand up style. I said that it was not. You merely then repleated what you said before. Really only forming as your arguement that there are a lot more MT practioners than Shaolin. This is for one main reason, the chinese are very secretive of the MA's, over the next few years, Shoalin and all Chinese styles will come into the West. Also to learn the Shaolin arts, one must dediate years of learning, which cant be done in the modern world where most people have 9 till 5's. Sorry to the rest of the room for my rant, but somethings are best said. Take Care
  18. Ignorance is not always an excuse. Take Care.
  19. lol KSN. Welllllllll, technically, its nothing to do with fighting. Its about creating the perfection of character. So in answer to your question. "Isnt this the ultimate purpose of our training in karate?" I would say no. This is not what the great masters and founders created karate for. Take Care.
  20. lol, personally I think I would stand more of a chance vs Mauy Thai than I would against a Shaolin Monk or a Wudang Master. Thats not to say that I would last long against a Mauy Thai boxer either. Thai_Kick, you asked me why Shoalin and the Wudang Kung Fu are any better than Mauy Thai, I think I will only answer with the reverse, what makes Mauy Thai better.? But please dont tell me that Mauy Thai boxers train any harder than the Shaolin Monks, because that just it'nt true. If you think so, then get Wong Kiew Kit's book on the Shaolin and see for yourself. To train your skin so that it can smash through rock and take direct strikes with a live bladed sword takes more than just muscle. IMHO, MMA events are no measure of the effectiveness of a style, many of the great Wudang, Shaolin, Wing Chun, Aikido, Aikijujutsu, Karate, TKD, TSD would not fight in a MMA event. Thats because we are not about competetion and fighting. Please dont take offence, I am not saying MT is no good, because that would be dumb. All these styles I have mentioned are equal to that of Mauy Thai in effectiveness, but you have to balance what you want. Do you want to get good in a few months then have to quit at 35 because the young 19 year olds can smash you to pieces, or take a life time to perfect what you have learnt and with every passing year get stronger until you die. I know which one I have choosen. Take Care.
  21. Karate, in general is a fine style. As long as you have a good Sensei and a willingness to work hard, Karate gives you the tools to be a very effective "fighter". Thai_Kick, I would have to disagree that Mauy Thai is the most effective stand up style. I would agree that it is very effective, but to say it is the most effective, it a little rash. Its always down to personal oppinuion ofcourse, I think that Shaolin Gung Fu, Ba Gua and Hsing I are the most effective standing striking styles. But they take along time to master. Take Care.
  22. Some do it to learn how to fight. Some do it for spirtual enlightenement. I do it for myself. Take Care.
  23. LOL Submission, you seem to know what you want. Just do it, as the advert says. Take Care
  24. That is the same for every striking style, the reasoning for San Sho and MT is less long stance intensive like say shotokan, where a person with a longer stride and longer arms is going to have a major advantage. Really short people are built for grappling. Thats MHO anyway. Take Care
