  1. Dont do it myself as I love the Japanese arts. But I have always had a lot of respect for it.
  2. PhilM1, thanks for your jems of knowledge there. yes I am fully aware of how nasty the "streets" are. If you are one of these hot headed martial artists, then I suggest learning some RUNDO and TRACK and FIELD JUTSU. Because thats all thats going to save you. jiu-jitsu fighter, if you are going to fight. Try not to get into the frame of mind that like "I will use such and such a choke". Just go with what turns up, if you try and force pattern on a situation you will be defeated. Yours in Aiki.
  3. I know what Kyokushin is and the Bushido. Bushido Kai? Seems very strange to me, that someone would take the name of a text as their school name. Other than my disagreement with the name. Kyokushin is pretty hard, if you are not conditioned dont bother turning up. Make sure you can take a few strikes, but dont start trading blows with these guys. If you can lock them up or ground them you will last longer. Depends on how long the person has been studying as to how conditioned and powerful they will be. Be sharp. Yours in Aiki.
  4. There is an old Aikido saying - "Talk Peace from a strong position". There is nothing to gain from fighting. However, if you can get him into the dojo and then train with him and beat him thats the best way to go about it. But try not to fight in the first place. Yours in Aiki.
  5. G'day.
  6. Whats that Jui Jutsu fighter? I dont remember argueing with you? Yes I know plenty about Maeda Sensei, Kano and Helio. Ask away. Yours in Aiki.
  7. Well, no offence to what ever teacher you are talking about Freestlyler, but kicking your students in the face is not really acceptable. But her being cheaky in class is no good either. Probably best that she left, for the both of them. I would never dream of attack either of my teachers. If it was for real I would get maimed, what are these people thinking! Yours in Aiki.
  8. Actually I went to see my first Judo lesson today. The club was less informal than I am used to, but I really liked it. I especially enjoyed the Newaza. They did the basic throw Tai-Otoshi. I dont know whether you do this, but when I watch other styles, I always try and find an Aikido escape from whatever the attack maybe. Perhaps thats because I dont think about anything else. Yours in Aiki.
  9. Ofcourse you can teach yourself. Will you be any good? Who knows? The arguement usually against it is that you wont get the specifics of a kick right, or a hold........etc. However a TKD kick is different to Wing Chun and Wing Chun has different technique to Mauy Thai. But all these kicking techniques are right. Just done differently. I would always advise you have a good teacher, but there is no reason why you cant go it alone. yours in Aiki
  10. Nice to see some varied opinions. Everyone is ofcourse intitled to say what they want. I could not agree more. It always a matter of perspective. On the one hand, you have a martial arts legend, that from perivous quotes has said that style vs style means nothing. Yet Oyama Sensei says something like this. Is he right......? I cant speak for Judo, however O Sensei smashed a far few Karateka in his time. If then he made a simlar comment, would I respect him less? I dont think I would. A style is as unique as the person. Some people will always be able to use certain styles better than others. We all know that even the legends are only Human. But do you think they have a responcablity to make their students open minded or false belief in one superior style? Submission, he never actually fought Kimura, Kimura refused to fight him when he did push ups of his whole body on 3 fingers. Does this make karate better? Mike Tyson refused to get on the mat with Shioda Sensei, does this make Aikido better than boxing. I think the point I am trying to make is that we ALL have a perspective. What is better for us. Karate was better for Oyama, Judo for Kano and Aikido for Ueshiba. Who is right? All of them and none.
  11. HURRAY AN AIKIDO LEAGUE! Thats 3 of us now! I have heard of Nihon Goshin Aikido and it sounds a very powerful style. Both you and Yoriki systems are very different to the one that I study. If you want to have a look here is the link: http://www.kifedgb.force9.co.uk/contents.html Yours in Aiki.
  12. From my very limted understand of Shaolin and Shotokan. The differences are: Shaolin Kempo is very similar to Shaolin Kung Fu, as they are both from the same temple. Shotokan is further removed from Shaolin and based more on the southern styles especially Tiger. They are both pretty complete in the later stages although I would say that Shaolin is more complete. Sorry I could'nt be more help. Yours in Aiki.
  13. This may seem like a strange title. However I was just looking on the net and I saw this quote: "But I may state this. Judo and Aikido are no match against Karate. This I wish to say at the least." Trust me, this is not a Kensai rant about how wrong this statement is, people can believe what they want. But who do you think said it? It sort of smells like an inexperienced 14 year old, thats trying to troll on some chat form. But to my horror is was in fact the great Mas Oyama! We always go on about putting down other style and how bad it is. But when "great" men say these sort of comments what are us mere mortals supposed to think. As they are supposed to light the way foward. I am not trying to get a Oyama Sensei slagging match going. As that would be wrong because I consider him still to be a GREAT KARATEKA. This is also not a Judo/Aikido vs Karate debate. Just wondered what you people thought? Yours in Aiki.
  14. I think sadly challenges still occur but never really solve anything, especially in this modern age. Fighting your Sensei is probably the most disgraceful thing that can be done in the dojo. If you leave then you leave, and thats fine, but attacking your Sensei is a no no. Yours in Aiki.
  15. Kaiten nage - Rotary throw. Technique where the attacker is thrown forward with pressure applied on the head or neck while his arm is raised over the head. http://www.aikidofaq.com/video/tissier5.mov This is a link to a movie of Kaiten Nage. Yours in Aiki.
  16. Thanks Yoriki, just some more questions. Do you have any solo kata? Do you build up your knowledge around the basic movements of Aikido? Ikkyo Nikkyo Sankyo Yonkyo Shiho-nage Kokyu-Nage Kote Gashi Kaiten-Nage Tenchi-nage. Yours in Aiki.
  17. A style is only as good as a person that practices it. Without the human making the movements of the style, then it cant excist as anything. I do agree that some styles are better than others, but that only applies to a practicular person. I know that I can use Aikido better than I can Shotokan. You have to work with your biology, some styles suit some body types better. If we are talking about REAL fights, then that 80% Person influence is really going to make a difference in what you do. Because at the end of the day, its all down to you. Yours in Aiki.
  18. To be honest Pyros I was trolling to see what people would say. Sorry to hear what happened, and this attacker was disgraceful. But you did the right thing in the face of an attack, this is also Budo is it not? Yours in Aiki.
  19. What are "Death Strikes"? Never heard of these "Death Strikes"? Is sortta like a "Death Star" and the Kung Fu guy shoots lasers out his eyes? Yours in Aiki.
  20. Nice to see you back Thai_Kick. Yours in Aiki.
  21. There should be a law against Mcdojo's and especially these contracts. What a joke, your better shot of it. Yours in Aiki.
  22. I have always thought that in the Budo arts, using them in self defence is not actually using Karate-do/Judo/Aikido. Ofcourse you are using the physicalitys, but failed in the spiritual aspect. To get into the situation where you have to fight in the first place is a weakness in character.
  23. My teachers style is focused strongly from Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido, which is probably the less "violent" of the Aikido styles, although the potential is still there. Do you do Ki exercises such as Furitama and Happo undo? Yours in Aiki.
  24. What makes your style "American"? Yours in Aiki.
