  1. I was kidding, but I do believe it would give you the desired result.
  2. The master class books are really good. Very easy to follow and nice setups to for the moves not just the techniques themselves. Oh and congrates on the new belt there Submission.
  3. Sorry, here is the translation. Kote Gaeshi, Wrist Twist. Basically a break across the wrist bone or a pressure point set up for a throw. What I mean by that is that it usually makes people go up on their toes to stop the pain. Ikkyo, is the fundemental move in Aikido of all the pins. (well mostly) So you pull the arm across and in front of you. Usually low enough for you to snap the arm with your knee. Irimi Nage: Aikido's hardest and most effect techniques. It took O sensei Ueshiba 20 years to develope and perfect. In a nut shell you jump at your attacker with what can only be discribed as a Ki Cloths Line. Some of the best Aikidoka use the "scarf" techniqe which in stead of just the arm across the shoulder, they take the whole head around in their arm. Kaiten Nage: rotator throw. Once your attack is bent over, you then take his right arm for example and try and get his hand towards his left shoulder. The Hyper extension of the arm forces all the pressure on to his right shoulder. Now unless he break falls, then somethings going to give. Tomoe Nage: Is when you slide under the shooter grab his shoulders put your foot on his stomach and send him flying over you. Sankyo: Is a wrist and finger lock and a take down to a mean pin. Yonkyo: is a wrist/elbow take down and pin. Kokyu Nage: breath throw : so you would corner step then throw them. I am sure you could find a pic. Tenchi Nage (my fav ) the Heaven and Earth throw, you would enter through the kick and plant them in the mat. Again difficult to discribe. Hope my Aikido to English dictionary helped.
  4. No not at all kchenault, most very high dan grades in Japan wear white belts. Traditionally as you train more and more your black belt (which signifies the ability to cause great harm)will begin to wear away and the black slow falls off the belt. You relise the importance of Harmony and a deeper understanding of Martial arts. So in essence you come full circle and back to where you started.
  5. Advanced?! Whats that? I dont get to do any "advanced" Aikido until 1st Dan. Like Dober said it really depends on what you think is advanced. Are you thinking arm bars, leg locks and chokes? Or moves from more diffcult positions?
  6. Well......... As any good Aikidoka will tell you good Ma-ai (proper distancing) is the best counter to ANY attack. However if not then these would be my choices: Jab: Kote Gaeshi, Ikkyo or if your quick enough Irimi Nage (20 year technique). The basic double leg shoot/takedown: Kaiten Nage, Tomoe Nage (Judo/Aikido move), Ikkyo, sankyo and Yonkyo. I think differently on the use of projections in this case TJS. Personally, I think that the projections are better used against striking and the pinning is better against Grappling. roundhouse kick: Kokyu Nage, Tenchi Nage. Hope this helps.
  7. Run in to your dojo..... and shout: "HELIO SUCKS" into your teachers face. Now this will encure on of to things, if the teacher laughs nods and says "yes I know". Then thats a Judo dojo. If the guy takes you to the floor and beats the hell out of you, then its a BJJ gym. Its a full proof system.
  8. Well, I dont think they are more like Aikijutsu. I think they are very much Aikido, but leaning more towards the pre war stuff. O Sensei went though a clear change.. pre war Aikido was "more" like Aikijtutsu. Post war Aikido is a lot sorter and more like Shin Shin Toitsu and Aikikai. The pre war stuff looks a lot more like Yosikai, Yoshinkan and even Tomiki.
  9. TJS, its only really a reference in the current Doshu's (Aikido Grand Master) book. Nothing to exciting, although I do hold it as a very valid source seeing as lieing as a Doshu is not a good thing.
  10. Well......... It is indeed a very impressive record. And indeed any BB that thinks he/she is invicible it going to be taken down at some point. I dont think that MT is the best art around, but I do respect its effectiveness and survivablity. The only fight I have record of is in one of my Aikido texts. Aikido Vs MT. Aikido won. But I think this is only for one reason, the reason why ever other art is different to Aikido. Aikido is about Misdirection and redirction. If you try and fight a MT boxer with power and linearly then your going down. Thats why White Crane, Shotokan, Wado, Goju.....etc have fallen to MT. Well there you go.
  11. Patrick, did you recieve my answers ok? Monkey, you know your going down on this one. MWHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA!
  12. Leaf, If an MA has no kata it does not make it any less a Martial Art. This sort of art snobbery (which I am also guitly of) gets us nowhere. If someone blindly follows kata, not understanding the intensions of the movements, then it is a dance. Dance does all the things you said above about power and balance etc. The difference between the Congo and Heian Sandan is that fact that Heian Sandan teachs you to break arms the Congo does'nt. *Disclaimer, sorry for poor grammer, very tired, plus Judo and CHOKES, I can barely turn my head enough to read across the screen.*
  13. TAI CHI practioner! Excellent Well welcome to the ranks old boy!
  14. Without this substance, there would be NO MARTIAL ARTS. There would'nt be anything.......
  15. Kata, without the understanding of application is just a dance. You must understand what each move is, study it on its own and as a series. Study it with a partner to make sure it works......... It you dont understand the Bunkai, you dont understand the true nature of kata.
  16. TJS, the most street effective form, is the one that that person can use to its most effective. The more "blinkered" martial artist would say Mauy Thai is the most effective, Salvate, Silat and even Brazlian Jiujutsu. Well thats simply not true. If a person really loves Shotokan, trains in Shotokan, believes in Shotokan and lives Shotokan, then they are going to very effective indeed. It boils down to what you can use at the end of the day.
  17. Its only because I let them win...............
  18. Yes, every style of Aikido, more or less. Has its own special area. Iwama - weapons Aikikai - strong circles Yosekai - Judo/Karate/Aikido, very complete Yoshinkan - lots of resistance, and power Shinshin Toitsu (My style is an off shoot of this one) - focus's alot more on Ki energy.
  19. I did Chokes on my third lesson. But thats only because I asked to be shown some. Oh, Laurie, I got Niel Adams (GB JUDO CHAMPS) book today on arm locks! REALLY good, I suggest you get it. @ Submission. I did get choked a little, gotta love it though.
  20. KungFuGrappler, I am sorry. But again you telling us what to believe. I dont wanna make this into a flame war, but you saying that bothing ever excited before 20000 years AGO?! But we KNOW, scientific fact that the earth is much older than that. Also the Earth is moving closer to the sun? Thats news to me and I am a Physical Geography student. Global warming has more to do with ozone gases and various other unpleasant chemical reactions than it does do with god. IMHO ofcourse. Jesus Christ may well have died for me. But I dont believe that he was anything other than a myth. Its my opinion. Now I know the TKDMaster and yourself seem to be very pro Christian. I dont believe in GOD period. I dont want to, I have no need to. If there is something that I can see, feel and touch then its real. I am not trying to talk anyone out of Christianity. But when people say JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD! Then great he is, but thats only to YOU and other Christians. Not to me.
  21. Shotokan.................... hmmm...................... Its ok I guess. Just kidding G95 and his karate friends. As a style I really like it. Like all the traditional systems it takes sometime to be able to use properly. Although not as long as Aikido or some of the Japanese Jujutsu styles. As long as it does not take 2 years to get your black belt and you focus on those deep stances then you'll probably come out a half decent fighter at the end of it. All the best.
  22. Its very hard to fine a good school of Hapkido and TKD. And bording on impossiple to find a non mcdojo kung fu school. Personally, I do believe that Judo would really make you well rounded with your karate experience. However, Shotokan is probably the closest to Kyokyshin. A Hapkido club that gives out a BB in 2 years is not so good. Kung Fu is such a broad term, you going to have to tell us the names of the styles. All the best
  23. Well, Especially in Aikido, make sure the linage is there, as Aikido unlike most arts is VERY easy to trace back to O Sensei. You also have to have a good feel for it. Make sure the Sensei does not cover everything in the first lesson. Be weary of clubs that do weapons training right at the beginning of your training. ALL Aikido styles do atleast 3 weapons, Tanto, Bokken and Jo.
  24. I don't teach now because I quit 4 yrs.ago and went onto a different style known as Pankration, which is much better because they don't waist time with B.S katas.
  25. I love that Newaza, I FINALLY understand arm bars, Ude Gramae (I think thats the arm lock). But chokes, oh the chokes!
