  1. I agree G95. In general, I think fighting is probably going to get you hurt, Martial Arts training or not.
  2. Itosu, its a GOD. Second only to O Sensei Ueshiba. Just jokin'. I have heard from great stories about Itosu.
  3. Hell yeah. Those Chinese stylists can mix it with the best of 'um.
  4. Oohhhhhhh SOO MANY. Short list: O Sensei Ueshiba.
  5. Its a great style. It was started by Sensei Saito. From what I know, it is not all that different from Aikikai, only that weapons training is its speciality.
  6. Dont worry Kenshi, so am I. What style do you study?
  7. He IS the son of God to YOU, TKDMASTER. But he means nothing to me. Blue, if I am disrespecting him for not believing in him, then so be it. STRIKE ME DOWN NOW GOD! Nothing......... I will join all the other Athysists, Humanists, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddists and Taoist in hell. I dont mean to make this sound like a joke, but I am only getting to get really mad, when people tell me that I am disrepecting something that I dont even believe in. And the only way to talk about God and not disrespect him, is to believe in him. So basically anything I say will be disrespectful. Well if so, he can take it up with me.
  8. I agree with you there G95. Striking can be better in a muiltiple attacker arena. Although, standing grappling can be very beneficial. The last palce you want to be is on the floor in the muiltiple attacker situation. However if you have good floor grappling skills, you are more likely to be able to get back on your feet quicker. Aikido for example, does'nt have throws so much as they have "projections". They dont get as much height as Judo throws, but you sort of bowl one of your attackers into a group of others. Well thats the idea. There is also the bonus that if you can control your attacker and use him as a shield to attack the others. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with cracking one fella in the face and then moving onto the next.
  9. I know Joe. Like Wing Chun and Choy Li Fut, they sit in the middle of internal and external. However, some Kwoons of Baji, drop a lot of the Qi Kung training and Chi aspect. Its trying to claw back some respect for the Kung Fu Kwoons and masters that have really let themselves go.
  10. To my knowledge Sai, Sanshou is not a style. It is the chinese word for kumite. Something like "BaGua chuen SanShou", would basically mean in english, "Eight Trigram Palm, Free style sparring". Most people, when they refere to Sanshou, probably think of the things they see the Chinese military doing which is Eagle Claw Gung Fu or Kuai Jiao (Chinese fast wrestling).
  11. Thank you Krives, excellently put.
  12. Ok, I was justing thinking of this so i thought I would see what you guys could come up with. Your on the ground, face up with your attacker bearing down onto you and passed your guard. What would you do? This is not just to the Judo/BJJ/Wrestling community, I want to know what people would try to do from all styles, especially the striking arts. Osu
  13. Cant vouche for their quality but here's what I can think of: Aikido Modern JJ Judo Shotokan Karate Wado Ryu karate Boxing TKD Hapkido
  14. Kicking Boxing, is a more of a Martial Sport than perhaps Mauy Thai is. Mauy Thai is pretty hardcore, focusing on conditioning and good solid basics. I know every little about Krav Maga, but from what I have heard, its a really good style. Rather complete in unarmed terms and also doing some weapons work makes a very solid system.
  15. I would love to, however living in the UK, makes the call a small fortune. I think you really have to go the classes and see if YOU get the right feel. Make sure that she gives you a lineage from Sensei to Sensei. If it does not lead back to Japan then begin to worry. Also, if it is not a "traditional" martial art in that they have changed it a little. Make sure you ask them why they changed it and that they give you good reasoning. If you have any other worries, myself and other people here will be more than pleased to help you out.
  16. Indeed I am. The buck has to stop somewhere, these wars were waged in his name. Personally I think they are equally to blame, both the people and god. In my opinion.
  17. Indeed they are Kyle San. But, like I was saying. Due to the style, or time restrictions and money etc, we cant all train in all the areas. Also some, especially the TMAist dont WANT to train outside their style. As Bruce Lee once said: "Dont fear the 10,000 different kicks practiced once, fear the 1 kick practiced 10,000 times."
  18. Bajimen, is a really good site. The basic difference between the 2 styles is Baji is a closed fist style and Paqui is a open palm style. Follows exactly the same as Hsing I and Ba Gua, the 2 "internal" Chinese styles.
  19. I would go for a choke. As he puts the scissor lock on, lean into it, put your right arm and grab his left inside collar and use your left arm and put it into his right inside collar you have nami-juji-jime. Once your arms are inplace, the cross of your arms should meet at his adams apple. From there lean right onto him, if anything, it should get him to release the lock.
  20. Very true, but the other Religons have not imposed their will upon others as much as the Christains have. My nation of Great Britain, has ALOT to answer for on this front. Whether is be in Japan, China, Africa, Northern America. As well as the Italians, Spainish, Portugese, Russians pretty much imposing Christianity on the bits of the earth that the British had'nt. Its probably more to the with the people than the god itself, but if the god is almighty, then why not stop it. This is something that I will probably never truely understand. But alas, it has happened and the Christian faith has the most blood on its hands.
  21. I can see this one getting pretty heated. So I'll start the flaming with GRAPPLING RULES and ALL Strikers STINK! I'll now wait for someone like G95, Sai, Monkey, KickChick, Tobais to come back to me with there "pro striking agenda". Seriously, roundedness is very important. IN ALL ranges: Long - Kicking Medium - Punching Short - Elbows, Knees Trapping - Joint locks Grappling - Floor stuff. But we all cant be equally good in all areas, or its very difficult to be. So I personally have choosen 2 areas I like, Trapping and Grappling. (Which I also believe to be the most useful in real life. IMHO) But its my job then to be able to impose my perferences on to my attacker. This is what made the Gracies (to begin with) so good. They had no chance against a Kempo 8th Dan in stand up fighting, but they could impose their will and drag that person the the floor and then would have a HUGE advantage. To sum up, its not whether its grappling Vs Striking, its the person that can make their attacker fight THIER WAY.
  22. Well....... Personally, I think every art is complete in is own way and needs no supplement. HOWEVER, I also believe that in certain ways EVER Martial Arts "gels". If you are going to cross train, I would say, find your base art. The one you really really like, myself as an example that would be Aikido. Then train in other style(s) that you enjoy. I enjoy grappling so I do judo as well. For rounded completeness I probably should do Karate, but I dont really enjoy it so I dont do it. Just IMHO ofcourse.
  23. TKD could probably not be more different to Wing Chun, although there are some very vauge assocations with the Shaolin. Dont let the belt idea put you off a good school. Just worry when they are handing out "Joint Lock Basics" patches to their Adult class. Best of Luck.
