i will say this about kata or poomse or hyung..these are patterns that build a foundation of actual combat...a building of skills to forming ones own personal style of actual fighting ..very much misunderstood but nessesary....these are the foundation of making fighting skills...i dont mean they are to be followed like scriptures of the bible..but they incorporate the basics for which all combat skills grow from.you gotta start somewhere.its the martial art equivilent of shadow boxing....

Comparing Korean Systems
taezee replied to SBN Doug's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
most important factor of korean kicks is folow through and speed..this is what makes our kicks distinguisable beyond other styles...proper execution of the kicking technnique...but the most important factor being speed and target aquisition..these are accomplished by constant drilling...speed drills ..target drills... if you have speed and accuracy then you have strong effective kicking these are the two main ingredients of strong kicking ..which is what the korean arts are most known for..where as using these two factors even a small practitioner can throw powerful accurate kicks..of corse there are many other factors as foot work..and closing the gap..and timing..but body mechanics and speed are the two most important things... -
it is just an aspect of martial arts not actual combat...its for sport and entertainment only...this includes modern "full contact" olympic taekwondo..which is nothing more then point fighting with a little more contact

taezee replied to Musashi's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
welcome ..while we do not have any tang soo do..practioners...we do discuss any korean style here in the taekwon do forum...while being very similar to taekwon do..i believe this section will be very informative for you.... -
deby i feel that its really not isolated at all now..but we need to determine who is doing this..theres alot of sick people out there and they do not necessarily need to be affiliated with any terrorist group..this could be some sick americans..i still feel the media blows things out of proportion in the name of ratings..i detest some of these reporters..just two weeks ago when we had a plane come down and crash into some apartment buildings there were these reporters sticking thier mikes in peoples faces as they ran from thier burning homes asking them how do you feel ? how do you think someone would feel watching all this happening..idiots !!!!now getting back to the initial topic anthrax..i havent really heard anymore reports about it as a matter a fact its seems the whole country is letting the events of the last few months fade..we shouldnt do that..we cant forget we are at war and also that these *******s arent finished who knows what they got planned next/weve got to maintain our guard..and remain vigilante in rooting out those individuals who are blended into our society with bad intetions...

you gotta have a support system...unfortunately i feel martial arts is not something you can just learn alone..out of a book or whatever..you must have people you can train and spar with otherwise how will you know what will work in combat and what will not..the way ive always improved in fighting is to seek out whos the best fighter and spar with that person until i could surpass his/ her skill...thats the best method of becoming a seasoned fighter..still to this day i follow that....theres always someone out there that is stronger...faster..tougher then me and thats what i look foward to....otherwise how will you ever know...if what im doing is mere shadow boxing or actual combat training..like i have said many times before why train in martial arts if not for becoming a fighter??? thats bottom line.... spare me the philisophical..improving ones mind or discipline or whatever other excuse this is truth..we study martial arts to be able to fight...everything else is secondary and if you believe otherwise i have a bridge in brooklyn that i can sell you stock in...why did i start martial arts???..i wanted to make sure if i got into a fight i would be ables to kick the sh#@t out of the person who was trying to harm me period ...no romantic guestures about being like cain from kung fu and what not.."picking the pebble from my masters palm"..please!! if you want to be a "complete martial artist" you must mix it up with the "best of the best" otherwise just watch some taebo tapes and claim to be a martial artist becuase you can throw some kicks..can i learn to dance without a partner? can i learn to make music without a chorus??..can i cook a meal with only one ingredient?? can i make a beautiful painting with only three colors...nooooooo!!!! besides all that whos gonna be there to push your limit..to give you the edge..to test your skills..the mirror??you got to have that structure of support..of goals to become a martial artist..otherwise what is the point??and in finishing the wavemater bag i hate it..no comparison to a good old traditional bag full of sand..every time i kick a wavemaster i wind up breaking it..water all over the place..its like kicking a pillow....no disrespect intended i admire your enthusiasim to train alone..its just not pratical...humbly.....taezee

Water ????
taezee replied to Iwant2BaDragon's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
alot of interpitations can be made by bruces "be like water" what he was explaining was what happens when you become close minded or not willing to expand on what you are thaught or to learn only traditional styles of martial arts and not adapting to modern fighting..this is to become solidified or caught up in your own habits or ways and not being willing to change(kata or forms for example).....whereas to remain liquid or to be water is to be openminded..adapting not being committed to one thing "if it is poured into a cup..it becomes the cup..if it is poured into a teapot it becomes the teapot" open to learning new things although they may not be orthdox..flowing in knowledge "if water remains still it will become stagnat..water must flow!!" to keep learning to not be satisfied or fooled that all one has learned is sufficent to do this is to become stagnat -

Tips on getting those excellent High Kicks.
taezee replied to TKD_McGee's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
right now dont worry so much about height..height comes later when you have more flexibilty and more foundation..we all want to rush in and start throwing high kicks and jumping spinning kicks...it is when you rush and not have enough skills in your basics..that you will do nothing but learn how to throw high kicks that will either miss or not have enough power becuase you have neglected training...footwork..target training ..or follow through with your body (or body mechanics) for maximum power on the kicks..theres alot involved in throwing kicks properly..its not all just about getting the feet up there..also work on your strecthing for flexibility...concentrate for now..learning how to kick low properly or body level..as you progress those high kicks will come..and they will be fast on target and powerful..just dont rush -

ill be the first to agree with such a standpoint outright...i am latin and we are famous for our macho attitude ..its in our blood to be fighters ..however common sense should overide that...and martial discipline should overide that...while akidoka has a point ..i do not walk around with a shalin monk robe and qouting bohidrhama all day long... nor do i take angnus stance as a street tough/wise fighter that is ready to kick ass all the time..i kinda put myself in the middle..through experience i understand both..but it comes down to this...the way the law sees a martial artist and what justifys us putting our skills into action..(after all i dont care how much one says they are taking martial arts for the spiritual understanding or other reasons we are taking martial arts to be able to fight period..otherwise whats the point??!!! ) and having said that when are we allowed or justified to use that knowledge is a big ass gray area..that ....the "system" will ultimately decide..which means that when you use that knowledge you can and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law ..right or wrong..almost in the same right as a person applying for a license to carry a firearm and using that firearm in defending ones life...you have that right!!!but you better be able to show you had no other choice..or your going to do some time...this is a reality!!! you have to understand this...to break it down we all practice martial arts to be able to fight...those who say otherwise..hey THE NILE is a river in eygpt...but in doing so we place ourselfs in a position to be prosecuted for using such knowledge..you gotta be careful..and to just say..im gonna kick anybodys ass that messes with me is puttting oneself in a world of legal turmoil..its sounds cool to say hey i got skills i dare anyone to attack me..but in the eyes of the law its not that cut and dry..speaking from personal experience...i had a dream last night that i was back in jail for hitting someone that was so real i woke up shaking..i was so glad when i realized it was just a bad dream!!! this is what is meant by people saying sometimes its better to swallow your pride and walk away!!! and closing this is not my humble attitude or opinion but the truth!! _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2001-11-15 21:09 ]
