  1. so all of the above ?? are you implying that taekwondo doesnt do any of these?? thats what i think you are implying..and if so you are another one who knows nothing about taekwondo but will state a whole list of things as above as facts..im really getting bored here..

  6. well gentlemen we dont have to take it to kicking people in the teeth..just to educate them what taekwon do is..."its not just that korean karate that was allowed into the olympics"
  7. devo chimes in...whip it baby..whip it good..when a pine board comes along..you must whip it..feeling like youre not too strong..you must whip it..a concrete slab.. the same old song..you must whip it..whip it baby .whip it good..i am a bad ass..its understood!!...lmao .speed deby..speeeeeeed!!!
  8. you need to work on speed deby..thats the key to any type of break not so much power.try to visualize the concept that a bullet is harmless if thrown..but if fired with the high velocity as from a gun then its going to do damage!! in breaking its about 20% concentration and focus..20% power and 60% speed and acuracy combined
  9. po eun is easy once you get used to the movements.. gae beck is a little bit more involved but a few months is enough time deb..yeah I was wondering what you meant by "my last dan"..any advice you need you have my e mail.. javi

  12. well said deby and thanks for the welcome back
  13. well most people who comment on why its not good are those who are really not involved in it..those who may have seen some tournaments and made thier opinion on my art based on that..theres alot of confusion on seperating sport taekwon do from the traditional side..i teach a combination of traditional taekwon do with hapkido ..and although we have several national champions that have come out of my dojang in sport taekwon do (currently jennifer mohammed is on the us team in colorado springs olympic training center) we do teach pratical combat taekwondo..which translates to taekwondo which is effective in actual fighting!!so again as many times as i have writen here on this subject sport taekwondo does not define "taekwondo" but is just a small aspect of the art..its just that its more exposed then the real deal.. _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-07-12 01:51 ]
  14. i agree with you bon..so much emphasis is placed on kata..forms..hyung..especially as far as advancing through the ranks..however as far as having combat practicality i would compare these as praticing how to load a musket..and firing to having a fully automatic weapon as a glock or m17 rifle..the only way you can learn how to swim properly and not drown is to get in the water and swim and not stay on the side of the pool and pratice what it may be like...and thats how i see the practice of forms or kata..just going through the motions swimming on dry land..till the day comes that someone unexpectedly pushes you into the pool ( as in an actual attack on your person) that you find yourself drowning in the wasted practice of prereherased moves which have no relation to actual combat) while i agree it is important at first for the building of basic techniques it is not to be practced religiously for real self defense!! moves are moves and combat is combat!! unfortunately alot of moves which are praticed over and over have no meaning in combat...just as bruce lee once said "kata or forms are nothing more then a classical mess" _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-07-10 00:04 ]

  17. let me put it this way..once confronted with a kinife in a real situation..we could theorise all day long on what may work..but at that point i assure you..its one of the last situations you want to be!! one time i got into a fight with some undesirable individuals which led to one of them shooting a gun at me..as i felt one of the bullets whiz past my ear i realized that no amount of my training would have saved me..it was pure luck that the bullet didnt hit my skull..I dont think it would have been that different if he had came at me with a knife.."training" for such an attack with a rubber knife or what have you could not prepare you for the actual threat of someone who is determined to stab or slash you!! in "training" you get to make mistakes and "do it over" in reality one wrong move and youre in the obituaries column..again i have to go back to how easy it looks in the movies to counter against a knife wielding bad guy..in the reality..its very frightenng to realize that someone is determined to take your life and it only takes one wound on you to do so...
  18. yes plenty of those..who talk alot of nothing..thinK they know everything and dont know the first thing about respect but are starving for it..there are plenty of "paper tigers" out there..the real masters and accomplished martial artist need not put on phony fronts and tell anyone how good they are or thier life story to anyone who listens..how many medals or thropys they have won..for thier actions and reputation will have preceeded them.."it is better to remain quiet and be considered a fool..then to speak loudly and arrogantly and relieve all doubt"!! 19. did i mention amen to that deby?? what a tired worn out recycled over rendundant topic.. it is definetly not that taekwondo is beaten down but the question itself!! _________________ Javier l Rosario bayshore new york instructor taekwondo/hapkido "whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your ass" [ This Message was edited by: taezee on 2002-06-12 17:48 ]
  20. buds training..very hard..probably the hardest physical training in the world!!..I was in the US navy for six years and spent the last two years as one of the command fitness coordinators for potsmouth naval hospital base in virginia..I took the buds entry level test and barely passed despite the shape I was in then...only reason i did not go into the buds program was they wanted me to sign on for another six years!! no black belt testing ive ever had could compare to that test..it took me about a month to completly recover from that..what you see on tv in theses documentary specials they have on seals training can really make you understand how hard that school is...its only a thirty percent chance that you will make it through...alot of tough men are broken there,,just getting in is a challange enough much less making it all the way through to recieving your trident..brutal both physically and physcologically...after all this is real life and death training your talking about..your being trained to kill..nothing else not how to score a point..not how to do self defense against someone steping into a foward stance and throwing a reverse punch..this is real life..(if you mess up you die) training..I feel that martial arts training.."real martial arts" training should be the same..and not how pretty you look when giving a demonstration..because in real combat nothing looks pretty..a jumping 360 degree spin kick dont mean nothing..and how many bricks i can break with my hand dont mean nothing..and how many medals or trhopies ive won dont mean nothing..but if i can actually use what i have and make it work..where i will survive almost any kind of attack means everything buds training is all buisness..and its all towards making you a soldier ..a fighting man..and not a man who talks alot but cant follow through with action..and we all in the martial arts world know plenty of these
  21. my "senseI" or in taekwondo my sabonim..is like a father to me..one of the few men i completely trust ..who has always been there for me both in the dojang and in life..i always listen to his words or advice because i can not remember a time when he was wrong...he has been an inspiration for me from the first day i knew him...alot of my personal development into the man i am today has been greatly influenced by both he and my own father ..without them both i would surely be in jail or dead by now..the aggresive sometimes violent young boy that i was ..they both guided me into being an honorable man..like is not the word I love my sabonim ..out of all the masters i could have wound up under..i feel so proud to have become his second black belt..in a school that put out so many "legitimate" black belts and champions...I would never hesitate in fact am proud to say..I am a result of master Atef Himayas teachings and brutal training...in the world of taekwondo my masters name carries much weight and respect..and when people hear who my instructor is they know im for real..his name has more credibility then my registration number with the Kukkiwon (main head quarters for the world taekwondo federation in Korea)and i would never have it any other way!!
  22. yes they can be combined and work well together..the dojang i came up in american taekwon do on long island new york does just that..although our school is known nationally as putting out gold medalist in sport taekwon do..the balance as for being effective in actual self defense is from our traditional taekwondo. training.as well as hapkido..
