angry music... it will help one thing u gotta remember though, is when u are training against someone, they are in the shoes of someone who really wants to cause u physical harm... dont got too lightly thinking that its just a make believe situation... u have to train as if it was real... become more of a conversationalist get to know everyone in ure club to the point where if u hit them hard by mistake they wont think anything of it cause ure friends now... this will allow u to train harder because both of u will not mind a few bruises seeing as u wouldve gained so much

um welcome bak? lol not much discussion can come outta this i guess, but what u say is true.. ranks are handed out far to easily nowadays and that is what i deem a McDojo... anyways its great that your coming back and that you seek the truth of martial arts... my advice to u... go to okinawa... find a master, and train under him... if u have the time and resources it will be the ultimate way of reaching ure goal

i wouldnt suggest the shuriken... one kid will huck it and hit another kid in the eye.... angry parents = ppl quit = opposite of what u wanted originally

remind them... we had a buddy night no1 brought a buddy.. i was going to but it simply slipped my mind As for getting the students to join after doing 1 class... the best way is to show them some basics (preferably kicks as kids like these more than boring punches and stuff) and then take them through some fun excersises... self defence techniques that they can show their parents, things like that because last class even though it wasnt a buddy night i got 2 of my friends to show up and thats what our instructor did... both friends are now going to join cause they feel like they learnt alot... main thing is DO NOT TEACH THEM KATAS! or even like the first steps of katas... cause i can tell you from experience... nothing is more boring to a firstie than having to learn a routine when u dont even know the basics.. hope it helps

The "Get-Up" Exercise for Martial Artists
obiwansbane replied to Sohan's topic in Health and Fitness
of course it works the arms, but what else does it work? just so i know what id be working before i try it cause unfortunately im really lazy -
lol, i wish i got my black belt in 300 hours.... :'( anyways i think this is a waste of your time to go for as a job... if you check out the school and the instructor has his head on right pay for the classes and go for it... otherwise you are better off just going to another organization and getting your black belt there

thnx this is why i posted here i was hoping for some input from different angles to see how ppl react

i practise shotokan myself, and our club has everything that you say that you are looking for... although this does vary from club to club so even though two clubs teach shotokan one can be really bad and give u the wrong impression kung fu, correct me if im mistaken takes some degree of flexibility... so if u are not for that i wouldnt try it... but since muay tai is available... i would suggest that first and foremost before the shotokan... this is because you have a background in a kicking art (TKD) so your legs would be developed well allowing for devestation to occur once trained to utilise it properly through muay thai... yes im partially a fanboy through the ong bak and the protector movies but ive seen some practical application of this other than movies and it seems quite powerful... All martial arts in my opinion will give u a beneficial physical training and get you into decent shape as long as you dont cheat out on the warm ups and training... sorry that i couldnt comment on all of them.. but if i was yo i would try the above mentioned two
-
Well heres the club i was looking at, but now i understand why i see some katas on youtube where people say they are good but i think their stances are bad... its just a different style http://www.shorinryu.ca/ thnx for the pointers so far guys and i hope u can find out some more to give after seeing the site
-
i apologize if this has been mentioned before but ive done some looking on the net and found a club in the city im moving to that looks like a good solid club as opposed to a McDojo... anyways it teaches Shorin Ryu, (i havnt been able to find any shotokan, maybe when i get there i can check the yellow pages) right now i take shotokan and was wonderign what are the differences between the two that i may see if i go to this club just for info's sake im a brown belt goin for my black in like a month so i have a solid foundation in shotokan

haha my favourite past time is when im walking in the opposite direction of some1 i know at school (usually a girl they get scared easier) i throw a punch full force at their face and pull it about an inch away and keep walking... usually im giving a scream and a few choice words but its entertaining... luckily for me though i havnt hit anyone yet

one thing u could do is watch weapon katas on things like google video and youtube... these are people who know what they are doing and that is why they have vids of themselves... if u can break down their katas into basic things it shouldnt be too hard to learn on ure own... just remember that for the bo, sliding is a huge part of strikes.... use the maximum reach possible

What the best guard position when point sparring?
obiwansbane replied to chillindan's topic in Karate
for myself i try and be as sideways as possible, with the occasional taunt by fully facing the opponent.. with my hands i have my front hand just lying down infront of me so my fingers hang near my thigh, i use this hand for fast strikes if im on offensive or blocking kicks and such to the mid... my back hand is slightly infront of my face just below my chin... this covers half of my body from attack and with a slight arm motion i can cover the rest of it.. this is also my punching hand, as i find that my fav attack is to put my front hand in the way of their leg and through a reverse punch... i may be able to get u a pic if this doesnt make sense -

depends from what aspect... martial arts... you win... entertainment business she wins... i think you are both thinking on different levels and thats why you both have answers that could be right in context to the same thing -
Well, Its Official

haha cool! good job.. for us red belt comes after purple before brown so if our clubs met at a tournament there would be some confusion but once again well done and keep progressing! -
um wow excuse me? no height? are we sure that we watched the same video

here you go jiff.... some1 is swining at you with a staff but they dont know how to use it so they take a huge lateral swipe at you... you go over the bo and kick them in the face at the same time... hope it helps... ive honed my excuse making skillz so that i can add things to my kata and if anyone questions its practicality i can come up with a reason for doing it
