Assigning Training Journals
obiwansbane replied to bushido_man96's topic in Instructors and School Owners
just a thought... if you do implement some sort of journal, dont make it mandatory 1 entry a week to grade or something like that, as students will just make up fake things the night before its due... or see training at home as a chore because they need to write up about it... just encourage them to write in them -

Western swordsmanship getting some love...
obiwansbane replied to bushido_man96's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
i think the main thing is that when someone thinks samurai, they think efficient masters of the sword, disciplined, etc etc... someone to look up to and admire.. so they seek to be like them by training katana... when someone (at least me) thinks of European fighting they see big brutes from the medieval times swinging swords, hacking a slashing at their opponents... the japanese have that aura of mystery about them that makes people far more interested in learning about them -
my best option... is just find a high quality white belt from some store... around your area... dye it black, and then take it to some1 who does emboidery to get it embroidered...

Aurora Training Center they do karate, kickboxing, weapons, etc so he just changed it into training center

and most people who use a katana arent going to hack and slash at a jelly body while screaming like a madman.... they definately should have used Iaido to demonstrate the katana. -
now take a pistol (k in reality i dont know ANYTHING about guns so dont quote me im just saying) and shoot the katana on the side, breakage. katana's are sharp and are nice due to the bazzilion times they fold the steel. One thing i think about the curvature of the blade is the katana is a two handed weapon, so when you go for the downward diagonal cut, you have the option of cutting through or using the curvature of the blade, to slice instead... my interpretation of a european two hander (once again please dont quote me) is that youd need to go through with the cut because they are meant to be manuvered as quickly and strike as quickly as the katana. Slicing with them, though not impossible, would be harder to do, and waste precious time in the fight. This curved blade, (as i envision it in my mind) helps the sword slide through if one bent their wrist upon contact. thats your one tiny advantage. if this doesnt make sense ill try and one day make a ideo of wat i mean

uh... you did all of that for your yellow belt? lol nice, well makes ours seem like a walk in the park... what are halting ram and halting mace? im guessing its a sort of stop to an attack but how does one execute it? -

thats NET FORCE thank u very much lol jk but by your equation (which i just had to write a grueling test in physics today) mentality is flawed... the little asian dude had waaaaay more acceleration than the big boxer... but wat you said is true... they needed people of the same weight, reaction time, build etc to run accurate tests... at least using 3 guys of each style and giving them 3 shots each would have made it much more accurate -
by the definition of the law yes they are illegal... but then they don't bring up the law ever that i've heard of

as soon as you said the place keepsgetting more and more mcdojo-ish you should have realised that it is not a place you want to be. Find a new school, and some will make you start from scratch anyways... i would say take another style, then you can get the best of 2 worlds and say you have a black belt in 2 styles
-
good luck to you!!!!! you will get it though! i gots faith!

well done! keep it up and get training! no time for slacking even if you got a shiny new belt -
thats a good thought... i actually dont know what i would do. But in tournaments its usually a mix between stop, and Yame.. i personally score a point and throw another technique for good measure just before they call stop, so if they do yell stop in a street fight, they would probably still get hit by at least something

here in canada, a nunchuck is defined as any 2 none bendable items connected by a length of rope, string, chain, etc. They are illegal. To what extent (like you cant buy them, or you can't carry them around etc) i don't know. But those guiding things they use in banks to make a line? oh yah... those are nunchucks.... illegal weapons in a bank... thats just asking for a robbery...

How good do YOU think you are?
obiwansbane replied to baronbvp's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
personally i feel that i could take 90% of the people my size, give or take some, that you would find on the street. Including the teenage people who associate themselves in gangs and such. Just because i know how to physically end a fight in the least strikes possible, and can avoid being hit pretty well. Two on one, i personally think i would get smoked empty handed, but with a bo or something i would think (sittin here behind my computer of course) that i would be able to handle that coming out victorious with a few injuries. Anything more than two i know for sure that regardless of what i have, my mentality for the fight will collapse rendering my body useless while i get pummeled. All this is for people my size or slightly smaller/slightly bigger. Bigger opponents i don't feel so comfortable going against, because i find i cannot generate enough power to actually cause physical damage. My only option then would be to use throat, solar plexus, joint break techniques... and i can see myself doing it if the person has little or no experience, but a decent street fighter would win in this kind of a fight. Thats all i can think of -
and to make sure all of the blood on the training equipment is wiped off if someone else is also using that equipment... safety first! training later!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbEh6QTAjx4 ^^ i hope thats a japanese person, just youtubed it so theres the pronounciation. And i dont say hope with the "O" sound that this person does, maybe you do, and if so i see how you got it. Its all because of accents! everyone should have one accent!

its actually dah-teh Vowels are pronounced as - a - Ah e - Eh i - Ee o - aoh (hard to describe? a cross between aw and oh) u - oo

what did the first martial artist do? invent a style and call himself a master or "black belt" ... so do they not deserve it cause they obviously gave it to themselves as there was noone before them to give it to them. so your friend just did what people thousands of years ago did he deserves it if he wins, and has that kind of skill and discipline required of a martial artist... i highly doubt he will become part of some organization though, and gaining students may be hard if he decided to make his own school one day

that was taken on a girls digital camera, im hoping to get a tripod with a proper camera set up at some tournament to get a good solid video. The only dificult parts there are the one release at the end (the guy before me dropped his so i got kinda scared) and the part where i swing the bo across my body and back behind me, the bo is a toothpick kind, so i gotta watch out incase my hands are sweaty and it slips post up some of your bo id love to see it

ask the kids to beat on you during sparring if your instructor will allow it, it will require you do get a higher level of defence and counter or else you get hit and it hurts. That might help, i thought of it on the spot... if you don't have someone with more advantages than you, just crank it up a notch good luck and well done in ure tourney
