Totally agree with this, I had so many more planned, but now I'm a family man we definitely don't have the funds to spend on things like tattoos! all my previous ones were actually done by friends as well so have never actually paid full price on any of my tats.

15 tattoos here, some are small. Have even tattooed myself twice now!

Yeah, I have never really been a big believer in that stuff, but agree it is interesting to read! So I’m happy to share my birth year… 1991

As an instructor I have never bothered with student of the month rewards. For a couple of different reasons: At the moment I am actually only running adult classes and I don't think anything like that is really needed for adult classes... But when I was running children's classes as well, my classes have always been quite small and I would find it difficult to justify why one student would get the award over another, especially as I am quite big on not comparing students to each other and always tell them to never compare their karate to someone else's in class, only person you should compare to is your yesterday's self. So to my questions... if you do these type of awards: how do you decide who is your student of the month, if no one really stands out in your mind do you just pick one at random? Do you even award it based on what they have done that month or do you just alternate it between all the students? Also, do you feel that this type of thing has led them to compare themselves to others in the class?

Happy Chinese New Year to you! Can't say I have ever really celebrated Chinese New Year before. All I really know about it is that I was been in the year of the Ram I believe...

Hey! that's me!! Thanks so much! I feel deeply honored! Great to be part of this community -
Interesting to know how you approach the jump using this method. I have done basic Heian Kata backwards, but haven't ventured into doing kata like Unsu this way...

I really enjoyed it actually, I have only been to one class. It's something that I have wanted to do for a while but can't really commit to it at the moment because I'm focusing on too many other things, only reason why I went along was to support my other half, she has been wanting to get back into something martial arty and because of scheduling conflicts and our little girl she isn't ready to get back into karate yet so I have been suggesting this Tai Chi club for a while now, finally managed to get her to go along with her friend, and I said I would go with them for their first session. As she learns more of the first form she has been showing me as it sort of helps her remember what she went through in class.

11/01/22 I had my very first Tai Chi class on Monday, so yesterday in my little gym session after work I warmed up with the start of the Beijing short form. Then moved onto the weights, just focused on bicep curls, lat pull downs, chest press, and new dip bars have appeared in the gym so done a couple of sets on those. Then a couple of runs through karate kata Ji'in and Chinte before going through basic kobudo syllabus stuff for bo staff and nunchaku.

Hard to tell who would turn into a legitimate good person in season 5... This show surprises me a lot and when I try to guess things like this I'm always way off. Maybe they do something like kill of Kreese next season? he comes back, tries to do something good and gets killed? something that maybe they don't find out about until the end and it makes them all respect him slightly? Robbie I think could turn good again, after his little hug with his Dad unless they have an annoy relationship like Daniel and Johnny, one minute everything's good and getting along fine, then one of them feels left out and kicks off. What do we think about Eagle Fang? initially I thought it was only going to last a couple of episodes and then merge into Miyagi do, or both merge and become a totally new club. But season 4 made Eagle Fang more of a legitimate club than I expected. Patrick... I am shocked! are you planning on rectifying your mistake and watching the films?

Definitely the Heian kata for me... but that's most probably because I am a Shotokan karate-ka! I have a friend who runs a Wado-ryu club so I have gone through the Pinan kata, it's just different from what I am used to I guess, I also prefer the Gekisai kata from the Pinan... so for me its Gekisai, Heian, and the Pinan.

Getting a student signed off by a doctor
ashworth replied to ashworth's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Thanks for the input, all of you have voiced what has been going round in my head which has been very helpful seeing it in the forum and helped me come to a decision. Thanks everyone! -
When our classes started resuming last year I have a particular female student who is 16 that couldn't come back because they were still feeling the effects of a concussion. I said at the time before they return I would like the doctor to sign off before she comes back. That was about 5 months ago, the Dad has recently mentioned about her returning (her Dad trains in the same class) I mentioned the doctors again and he said they weren't planning on going to see the doctor and thinks enough time has past and that she no longer feels the effect of it and wants to try and get back into training just taking it easy to start with. I have expressed that I would like a doctor to sign her off, but the father is fine with her returning... am I just being too careful or should I refuse the return until they go to the doctors?

Spot on with what you said about Silver, they have now given us someone worse than Kreese, and I kinda like the fact that Kreese showed that he was starting to change, didn't push Tory and told her to do it her way, Kreese to me then looked like a good guy... and that shows just how much of a bad guy Terry Silver is if he can make Kreese look like a good guy! Thoughts on Robbie this season? is he going to go full circle and join the good guys? maybe fix his relationship with his Dad and join Eagle fang? Over all I loved the season, felt a little short but that's probably because we watched it all in two sittings!

Thanks everyone! It was an incredible day! We kept it small and personal only having parents and siblings, so there was 19 of us, and the whole day went ahead without any issues at all, and everyone got on well and all seemed to enjoy the day, was surprised as there are quite a few family issues but everyone put it aside for the day and were pleasant to each other To top it off our daughter has only just started walking about 3 weeks ago, and she managed to walk all the way down the aisle on her own to me! Was very cute and kinda stole the show! Was a great start to the new year! now I feel older being a married man…

Fingers crossed for you Bob, sending positive energy your way! Mainly my goals have actually been for what I want to do with the club, right now my main goal is just for the club to survive the current climate! But I do have a personal goal this year, my 4th Dan, I have been putting it off for a couple of years now, just thinking, I'll go for it next year, I was planning to do it this year but with the covid thing going on it was put back again, it has been provisionally arranged for January, but with covid on the rise again I wonder if the same thing will happen again. So the main goals of 2022, -Keep the club going -Help my student gain his 2nd Dan -Go for my 4th Dan
-
I used to be big on goal setting around this time of year, but recently because of aspects in my personal life and with everything going on with covid all I'm doing is reviewing what I have done this year, and imagine what I want to achieve next year. So it's still goal setting but only loosely setting goals, just to give me a rough direction... So what about you? did you set any goals for 2021? did you reach them? are you setting any for next year?

Out of interest… what is a reverse front back stance?… I wanna see if it’s the same as my reverse front back stance

Zaine, I’m sure DC are digging through all the martial art forums trying to find their next big creative writer and if they do find you… remember it was my topic that got you spotted Obviously we know how far-fetched the extent of this statement is, I was just curious to know how much a photographic memory could help with learning multiple martial arts.
