Without Karate depression probably would have effected me a lot worse and would possibly have a lot of angry issues too. I very much doubt I would be particularly social either. To start with I done Karate from the age of 5, so it didn't really mean a lot to me then, after some childhood family issues I appreciated karate for what it could do for me mentally, and karate became a family, support group and a sense of achievement during some very important years as a teenager. It became an outlet for when I was feeling frustrated or low and I can't imagine what life would be like without karate...

Sometimes our reasons for training change, especially if you start karate at a young age. when looking at higher grades, it can be quite daunting to think you might have to do what they are doing one day, but when you start working through the grades, you get a little bit closer every time and suddenly it doesn't seem like a massive jump. with passion and determination you will be surprised just how much you can achieve!

The Paper Tigers Movie (Spoilers)
ashworth replied to Patrick's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Thanks for reminding me Patrick! I saw a trailer a while back and meant to keep an eye out for it, I'll try and get round to it in the next couple of days -
Finally got round to watching this... Over all, being a fan of Mortal Kombat I did enjoy the film, but was a little disappointed with the main character, I understand introducing a new character in the film but I would have preferred the main character being an existing one, especially with the amount of characters available to Mortal Kombat...

Interesting Story! welcome to the Forum!!

Goju karate I have found to be less linear, and using more deflections and re-direction techniques. Goju means Hard-Soft which is pretty much the style of karate you see from Mr Miyagi. That's just how I see it in my mind anyway... I'm sure there will be others here that will provide a more in depth answer

Cobra Kai, Season 3 (Spoilers)

I don't think they will became a thing as such, and I don't think they will split up Daniel and Amanda, but could see a slight bit of jealousy coming from her. -
Solid post, and that is the way it should be. From their post it sounds like this is them trying to get into teaching, how should they try to attract their first couple of students? Need to know more really, are you still training under your instructor? If they are happy with you doing it they would have some advice and maybe offer you the chance to help with teaching in your current club to help you develop skills in teaching. Tell your instructor that you have an interest in teaching and see what they say?

Depends on how you market yourself I guess, good that you have experience but many would want to see your classes in person first. Do you have any experience in teaching? Being a Black belt doesn't always mean you will be a good teacher, and if this is the first time you will be teaching you will find a lot of lessons along the way.

I genuinely don't think I get called anything, I run small classes and its obvious when someone wants to talk to me... occasionally I may have been called Sensei and I'm pretty sure I have just been called Ash a couple of times.

Cobra Kai, Season 3 (Spoilers)

Yeah I didn't mean stab to kill just maybe a stab through the shoulder, that's what I expected from him anyway... So who do you think Daniel will teach the new Miyagi techniques to if anyone? don't see him teaching all of them, just maybe a select few? -
Styles just have different ways of training certain principles within their club through the use of kata. Just the same as countries have different languages...

Cobra Kai, Season 3 (Spoilers)

Yeah I think you are right about Robby, that would probably make the most sense. Did you also pick up that Kreese showed mercy! in the fight at the dojo when Johnny was seeing if Robby was alright, Kreese had a sai in his hands, I was totally expecting him to stab Johnny in the back, but only hit him with the handle... -
Cobra Kai, Season 3 (Spoilers)
ashworth replied to Patrick's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Does feel a massive shame that all that hard work they did to develop his character has been for nothing now that he is worse off than when we first saw him, he is just hurting I guess, he should have realised why Daniel done what he done and I was waiting for him to see that, wouldn't surprise me if they make him betray Kreese right at the end at the cost of his own life, or something like that. I think it would now be difficult for them to have him switch back and help the goods guys... Also I read somewhere that the actor that played Terry Silver has turned down the offer, saying that he is no longer an actor... not sure how much truth in that there is. but wouldn't surprise me if they have made us think that it will be Terry Silver as he would be the obvious choice... Maybe after Karate kid 3 barnes stayed with Silver, worked and trained under him, if silver isn't returning maybe he died, Kreese looks at his picture, remembers Mike Barnes and calls him up... Just a few thoughts... -
Welcome to the forum! very interesting reading your training history

Cobra Kai, Season 3 (Spoilers)

Definitely, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a series this much. liked what they done with Hawk in the end. Gave him a little cheer when he switched sides and backed up his binary brother. I did feel bad for Robby, look forward to seeing what they do with him.
