I hold the Rank of 'Man of the House' although this is self-appointed and I'm pretty sure my wife actually has this title most of the time... or think she does... I'm not sure which anymore... Other than that I'm also a 4th Dan in Karate

Hello! Welcome to the forum! what style of karate do you do?

In a more active communication platform I quite often find that I don't contribute as much unless I happen to be online when the topic is first posted. For me personally I do like the general pace of this forum, I can log on in the more see recent topics, Have a think about what I want to say and then later when I get chance, I can log on and reply. I guess it's just personal preferences

Have you actually designed your own miniatures with it? I imagine the design process for something like that could be difficult to get your head around to start with. Out of interest what armies do you play?

How dare you suggest to train for the fun of it!!! what do you think this is... a hobby!?

Martial Arts, self defense, expertise and instruction
ashworth replied to LionsDen's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If you put yourself in a position to have to use your self-defence so that you can gain real-life experience to become a more credible instructor then you have missed the point of self-defence -

Kenobi

Possibly not as excited... but it is something that I definitely want to see, I have been trying to get through the Mandalorian, but it's something I have to try and find time for on my own as it's not something my wife is really into. (and time is hard to find for similar reasons you expressed in your cobra kai post!) It may be a case of using the time I find for the Mandalorian to watch Kenobi instead... unless they are linked and would be missing something if I didn't get up to date first? -
Depends on what style of karate we are talking about... For me as a Shotokan karate-ka the karate I do I consider Japanese because of the Japanese influence to my particular style, I'm sure there are others out their that view their karate differently. My first karate club I was with as a child had more of a Korean influence and was taught with Korean terminology so I would consider that karate club more Korean...

Boutique/small class schools/dojos
ashworth replied to LionsDen's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Oh no not at all! Didn't want to put that kind of pressure on my karate and risk it tainting my passion. What I do works for me. To be honest I would be tempted to teach for free if I could. -
Boutique/small class schools/dojos

I started off in the same sort of space, and I’m still in that sort of space! I prefer running my small classes, allows me to focus on individual needs. I have managed to fit 6 in, obviously for things like kata, there’s only really enough space for 3 at a time (sometimes more if they are all doing the same kata and moving in the same directions). I tend to pair them up, they take turns doing a kata and offer each other pointers, and I just keep and eye throughout. Price wise I charge £5 a class -
