  2. I am sure that this is a western problem , monks do sparring every day, and last several hours. And for sure , again , this is a Mc dojo problem. Wing chung is traditional,comparing to other derivated forms. In my kwoon , we learn some chi sao , that is close combat derivated from wing chung, punches and blocks very close to the oponent and very fast , including elbows hits occasionally. It is very good to me , because I am not a very good blocker in short distance.
  3. Well ! That s cool. What kind of armor do you use ? Have you ever tried with two handed scottish claymores ? I would love to do medieval combat ( the highlander and braveheart movies twisted my mind in my childhood )i....but I dont fight where to do that in my city or even in my country.
  4. I am sure that in people with the same skill , the stronger/heavy will win. But...If you are an excelente skilled guy , but weight 170 lbs and wrestle against a strong muscular 260 lbs , you will have a difficult issue no matter if he doesn´t have a lot of technique.
  5. Yes...some Submisions...but not fully at floor.... Most standed techniques that lead to the floor.....but ends there.. There are some speacials seminars of floor work...but......

  8. Yes , anithing can be a weapon , but I preffer to use my bare hands instead atacking trowing cd ´s
  9. Trowing knifes is cool...but sounds like a circus show , but I love it... I did not study trowing things..but learn ( poorly), trying and trying at home with darts , knives etc. When I go to the woods with friends we compete and who loses , pays the beer and bbq. We ussually use Normal camping axes and Combat knives....But knives made for that , travel better in the air.

Well...I do not know what christian denomination you are , but several have prohibited oriental kind of meditation and some buddhist points of views.The most radical in those aspects are Luterans , anglicans , catholic, orthodox and baptist. If you are active in some church, you may ask your priest.... Or maybe don´t...of course it´s ur business , just my 2 cents.
  12. Does the strenght have more importance on the ground that if you are standed ? Also the weight .... I think is very difficult to wrestle at floor with a heavy and strong guy.... I am not talking about height or be tall....because it does not matter SO much like you are on your feet
  13. yes , the problem is that we train on a concrete floor...so I gotta be carefull..... This shcool LACKS 99 % of floor work too...So those guys suck there.Just learn some takedowns and sweep , but not submision at floor.
  14. Hey, sometimes when I do (free)sparring with my KB/thay friends , they atack me with strong (round) low kicks to my first leg. Some of those kicks go to mi cuadriceps , and y try to absorb the hit raising the feet with my leg ing 90 º. (if they are kinda high ) , or with the foot /hip twist without raise the foot if the kick is a little . In these cases , I do not have major problems. But when they attack lower than my knee, I can not absorb it very well...and really hurts . I lose speed and move crappier after that hit...of course.....sometimes I can evade those kind of kicks , but in some cases is impossible . What can I do to make more resistant to that pain ? ( avoiding ´´get used ´´)
  15. Well...I solved the problem the other day , making a wrestling takedown against the guy who insisted after the ´´virtual contact´´. THe instructor said ´´ every technique ´´ , I worked very well , without the guy injured. But some people didnt like that.
  16. I think grapling is great. If you know how to do it well..you can reduce most of ´´normal ´´ people. I notice that most people here cares about the legal thing when you are atacked.I saw it in lot of posts...... I don´t know perfectly the american law..but I do know enought of my country law and universal bases in western world In criminal law , defense (or defence for brits ) is legitimated whit EVERY one of this reqs : 1-You are atacked 2-You DID not provocate the agressor enought (Insulting is not enought.But if you hit a man with a stick , and he defends himself with a knife , and you kill him breaking his head with the stick, you go JAIL) 3-You counter attack with the same level of power.That means , gun powder with gun powder , cold weapon to cold weapon , body to body. This can have exceptions , for people with physical problems , women...Ill persons, kids ,etc.And the force used should be the minimal to avoid unnecesary damage. 4-This is valid for defending yourself or a third person So...killing a guy accidentally in a fight , when you are defending your life, generally do not lead you to a cage. And if you are a worker guy , head of your family with dependants.....Normally , you are safe.

  18. Yes....the pepple here is very respectful , and the rude guys are banned. Respect is inherent to MA....but not all the MA forums are like this one. There are a lot of forums where that people atack each other , saying ´´ the style X sucks , I do Y and can kick your butt ``...and posting there is a waste of time
  19. good point...but not all the monks are like that.... And yes...some of that things are not usefull...and maybe they are for showing greatness....kind of weird within monks who are buddists and want to be released from the ego....

  21. elbows n knees ir right... When I was in highschool in your country , I was in that Navy ROTC program. I did 110 push ups , wining a 2nd place in a tourney. I was too skinny and had 17 years old , weghting 135 lbs.....and was not strong indeed. They numer 1 guy in tournament did 125 push ups... and was a very very thin asian guy , about 115 pounds.
  22. I agree......Those guys are masters of practical means.... I won´t mess with any of those guys.....they have a diferent view of life....and surely do not care about diying, being sure of ther reencarnation.
  23. Yes , maybe is the Sifu´s purpose...But , My worst problems are with the White and yellow belts..they don´t got it when they get hit and still with the atack... I agree with bud Sensei tom´obrien , they should respect the punch , and step backward. And Controlling strenght without loosing speed is a big deal , for sure. I do not care if I receive a punch without gloves....And If it hurts...I wont show others my pain, either get angry. I just continue , and do not stop sparring. I stopped once when I felt very very bad after a hook in my head in a boxing sparring becasuse I was havin´ double sight (not nice).I am not doing a tough bad boy line , but I am a very proud guy, and hate to stop a combat...People usually turn enraged when they´re touched in that way , whit the raw hand. And Is not my willing hurt my mates in trained or being hated, a thing that easily comes when you are a little better.

  25. I ´ll try those workouts The workout that lorariel mentions , is similar that one I use to do when started to play guitar... Is cool.I also bought a Gripmaster , that is a grip with keys (each one with a spring) to work each finger. I am a damn mutant I have more strengt in my left hand , even being right handed. A friend of mine told me about the tennis balls , but I thoght he was mockin on me...I would try it The grupal exercise seems good , but I need extra people
