Thanks DWx. I didn't buy the platties i had them from my sisters tank, but it really was ok before it's happened since being in my tank, all the other fish are fine so far. I did have another black phantom tetra but she died and so i'm left with one. What fish do you have and what size tank, i have a three foot tank..oh and i forgot to mention i have an apple snail, it's great!

Hi guys! I have just set up my first tropical fish tank. I have a Cichlid, 3 platties, a black phantom tetra and two Gourami's so far. I was just wondering if anybody on here has got or had a tropical set-up because i am having some teething problems. One of my platties seems withdrawn and he has red sore patches on his skin. He just stays by the filter in the corner by himself. I have tried looking on the net to see what the red sore patches could be but i cant find anything. Anyone any idea's?

Wow My sensei 6th Dan
Shotokan-kez replied to Shotokan-kez's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Thanks guys. I was really surprised because when he was telling us about it he was saying how nervous and scared he was and he was tense and couldn't relax. I was just thinking..'What, you, scared? Never!' Just cos i can never imagine him being scared, but i suppose we all do. -
Hi guys just wanted to make a mention for my sensei. Sensei David Grice just passed his sixth Dan. As far as i know he did it over 2 days and was very hard and graded by some fine masters! At 61 i have the utmost respect for him and hope to continue having him as a Sensei for a long time yet!

Well..good question. I have both Karate goals and other goals. For karate it will be to train and prepare for our demo in July, also to put in extra training to prepare for my second dan next summer! My other will be to study hard, i have my exams coming up this summer and i REALLY NEED to pass because i have worked hard and put things (including Karate) on a back burner. After this i think it will be time for me to relax and have lots of garden parties...i think i will deserve it..

Martial Arts VS Clothing and Environment
Shotokan-kez replied to Aces Red's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Practice some kicks in the changing room when buying clothes, see how high you can kick! -
Same for us Brian, maybe a bunch of us will go for a beer in the pub to celebrate but thats about it.
-
I do agree that you did the right thing not to retaliate but i also agree with Brian that In step-sparring the other person gets a turn! Yes no contact on step-sparring but our Sensei says if someone is mucking about or going in to hard then hit them back, generally that works but every now and again you get a person like you have who never stops, who has an ego bigger than the world! So what if your a white belt? That gives no rights to other grades to treat you that way...period! I don't mean to be rude here but really what is the sensei doing about this guy? Maybe he needs some choice words from his sensei to remind him how things should be done. In the meantime try not to partner up with him. I agree that the dojo isn't to blame so i wouldn't give up on that just yet. Hope things get better for you.
-
I agree with Ed, it isn't standard practise. I made a post recently about using control while step sparring because i was fed up of being bashed in the ribs. Since the defender is just there for a target contact should only be slightly made, my sensei says so the defender can feel a small breeze and just a tap. Maybe it is an isolated incident, give it a little longer, see what happens.

Never had any personal experience in that style, but i wish you the best of luck.

New Program... charge how much?
Shotokan-kez replied to Holliesc3's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I could be talking utter rubbish here as i have never ran my own club But i would be careful with this. I think its a brilliant idea for the mums and parents of students. But i would consider that some of them may be single parents and may not be able to afford anything to high if they already have students at the club. However you also have to think of your own costs. I know that i struggle to pay for myself and my son to train, and we are very cheap. Like i say i know not a lot about business, although i think its a great idea and i hope it works for you. -
Lol i just think its mad that these people want to hurt themselves like that, i mean what is it they actually win? We have an English actor narrating ours and he laughs about their moves and makes comments, as well as explaining what they are trying to do. Good stuff.
-
Heres hoping you get better soon!! Theres nothing worse when something like that drags on and on.
-
Hey all. Just wondering do you any of you guys ever watch this? Me and my son watch it every morning and we think it's hilarious. Some of the things these guys do are crazy and i bet some of them get hurt, if you look at the way some of them fall you can see yourself wincing! Hehe just thought i'd ask...it's tickles me
-
Was that some kind of joke. I'm a bit speechless too!

How scared REALLY are you to fight?
Shotokan-kez replied to Throwdown0850's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hehe that does look pretty crazy I have seen similar ones but never an all over body one like that! I wouldn't like to be the one wearing it. -
This is a good question. Some people do find it hard at first, or more so embarrassing. When the newbies come into our club (mainly kids) they hate kiaing because they are shy. If you are just not doing it very well and concentrating to much on your moves thats not such a bad thing because it will come with time. I love Kiaing it helps me with my Karate and with confidence you tend to do it more and more. In our dojo we have to Kiai in the right places in Kata (normally two) and on the third move of each combination or technique...but i find myself just letting one out from time to time, the good thing is it doesnt bother anyone else cos we all in the same boat.

If i don't get enough sleep during the night (which is often) and have a sleep in the day i find that im much more tired than when i started! Takes my body longer to adjust and get energy for the day.
