Ive been training constant now for around four years, i'm not sure it's that causing the problems though. I have actually been okay for a while, just because sometimes i can go a while without any pain then it will just happen out of the blue.

I'm not sure i know what you mean. When i saw your post title i thought you meant Gedan Bari?

Hey guys i'm looking for a little advice. My little boy Ethan is very fiesty and lively and has lots of energy to burn..he is also a little rough with his brother at home and the other boys in the playground at school. Today after picking him up from school his teacher came out to tell me that he had hurt a fellow pupil in the playground, it was totally unacceptable to the point that the boy had bleeding to his ear. Of course Ethan has been punished by school and by myself but i am wondering if allowing him to take part in the kids classes would help channel his energy in some way, on the other hand i don't know if it will make him worse. Another reason why i think it may be a good idea is because when i train he always wants to come and watch. He sits with my partner at the back but he copies everything we do at the back of the class. It's quite sweet really watching him do this, as he always asks to take part but i always say no because of his age (although we do have kids of his age in the kids class). Ethan will be 5 in January. Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. Kez x

Sparring against a shorter opponent

To be honest i am not completely sure weather we are allowed to strike with elbows in class, especially to the head. I will have to check that out with my sensei. -
Yep joesteph its all about intimidation.

Well after training last night my sensei said this is true that the japanese martial artists find it disrespectful. I can kinda see that, as i said before i find it a bit intimidating to look into the eyes.

Cool all that sounds really good, i will defo be giving it a try...us smaller people have a tough dead lol -
When we perform the jump...like mentioned before we bring the knees as close to the chest as possible. We land with a kiai and land with the X block with the right knee higher than the left. We also land to the side. Despite practising this kata for years i still find that jump difficult, getting it spot on or not loosing my balance.

I rarely make eye contact...mainly because i am to short No i think it's to intimidating, also i'm not sure if this is the right or wrong way but i tend to look where i am attacking. Also i heard that the Japanese won't make eye contact when bowing to each other before sparring...is this correct?

I don't come on here as often as i used to because my pc is down at the moment. KF is a great place to be and i can relate to what you are saying. I have made friends and had lots of valuable advice. Glad your enjoying it. Kez x

What a shame you missed out. I have never heard of him till now. The opportunity would be great to be able to learn from someone like that. -
Sparring against a shorter opponent

I can totally relate to this topic. I myself experience it a lot as i am only 5'2 so i rely on stomach kicks and punches to make a point. Although my speed isn't brilliant so i have to be quick with my punches, i am better with using dstance and getting in a side thrust kick to the stomach. Occasionally i can score with uraken to the face if i'm lucky. Now i am a little naughty because i will take advantage if i am sparring with a shoter person. But it teaches them to keep their guards up if they are sparring with someone taller than themselves. I have this problem. I keep my guard up to stop people getting my head but the problem with that is i leave my middle area wide open! Anyone know how to deal with that one? -
i really like the idea of your own photo, thats great advice. It would defo give a personal touch.

Hey all. I just wanted to share with you all, what a fantastic month i had. Firstly on 2nd August my little sister got married. She had a beautiful grey and silver lace and velvet dress. They were married in a town house in Scotland, then we had a three course meal and a huge party. The mood was brilliant. On 9th August i went on holiday with a friend. We went on a cruise around the med. We flew from the uk to majorca, then stopped at Sardinia, La Spezia (italy), Rome, France and menorca, finnishing back up at Majorca. i was so lucky to be able to have a holiday like that. It's a fantastic experience sailing to different countries on a great big ship! Lastly i had my exam results. Some time ago i posted on here to say i had gone back to study, well i sat all my exams and passed them! I left school 16 years ago with nothing, and now at 31 i have three qualifications. I got a C in English language, a C in English literature and a B in Hisory. It's a great feeling. Anyway just wanted to share! Kez x

I love frayed belts and i love the look of them. Yes they are a piece of cloth, but i love my piece of cloth and i'm very proud of it. I have had my black belt for over a year now and it hasnt started fraying yet, but i cant wait until it does.

There isnt a lot i can add really as i agree with what everyone else has said. What i will say though, is a very well done on changing your lifestyle, getting stoned isnt a good thing and not easy to get off. It has shown you have strength and determination to give that up. As for the Karate, like others have said give it time and it will soon come to you. Once you get with the flow properly you will love it! Good luck

What a joke! I agree its probably a publicity stunt, i also agree that no style is better than the other...even if this Sensei does defeat another master in fighting, that wouldn't deter me from a certain style.

I have both here, XP on my pc and vista on the laptop. To be honest i didnt like vista at first because i couldn't navigate around it very well, didnt know where things were ect, but that is the only reason really. I'm getting used to it now but i reckon they are both ok.

What Fees are you Paying for Training
Shotokan-kez replied to marksmarkou's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
£2 per session, which works out £4 to £6 per week depending on how many sessions i take. Yearly we have to pay £15 to renew our licenses -
Wow...I want one! Don't think i could eat that many sausages though
-
Wow, thats what you call a good warm-up! It's bad enough when our sensei makes us stand for ages in our last movement of a kata because someone has done it wrong. Would like to give this a try though...maybe erm next year hehe
-
Cool, i always wanted one of those! Only it always had to be one that really was a hoverboard...save walking lol

Gastroscopy/heartburn...how to cope with it
Shotokan-kez replied to Shotokan-kez's topic in Health and Fitness
That sounds cool tiger but me to have one cup a day would be abnormal lol If its not coffee it's cherry coke or pepsi and if it's not that it's fosters hehe. Maybe i should drink more water and fruit juice i can be quite naughty sometimes -
Thanks for the advice. I think i will go see another doctor, its well worth doing. It's my ankle that bothers me more than my elbow because i use that for most things. For instance, after performing the jumps in kanka-sho and empi, its agony. Sometimes i will get out of bed in the morning and the pain will be bad and i cant put pressure on my foot. No its not a recent thing. It started with my elbow about a year ago but i have just put up with it, my gp just said to take anti-inflammatories. My ankle started early this year. Thats why it has come to my attention recently, because it has become more painful than normal. I think i will take another visit to the gp and maybe a health shop. Thanks again guys.
