I personally do not agree with this at all. You shouldn't have to ask your sensei for permission to train elsewhere. You have a right to train with whomever you want whenever you want. You should inform him of your intention, but you shouldn't be required to have his blessing. Just my two cents. I agree with you, bearich. I have had my say on this in the past; however, no all instructors see it this way. I would be interested in seeing a nationwide poll on the subject.

Bearich gave some great info. I have a little to add. Make sure you can break down your techniques very well. Also, make sure you can explain yourself well. By breaking the techniques down step by step, you will be able to better teach them. Everyone learns differently; some by sight, some by cause and effect, and some by explanation. Make sure you can demonstrate and explain a technique in several different ways. This will help you in the long run.

Reread my post. I never said that you hold your breath while running. I have said that breathing is important. What I was saying is that while you are running distance, you need to keep a constant breathing pattern, not a rapid breating pattern.

I agree with most of the replys here. Cross-training will always yield different points of view, and allow you to expand your knowledge.

I have felt the same as you from time to time. You want to know that if the time arises, everything will work. Someone has mentioned before that this is the benefit gained from stepping into a full contact MMA event, in order to put yourself in the situation, and see what you can make work.

She is defenitely flexible, and must have some leg strength, but the speed was a little less than stellar. Props to her, though, I can't do that!
