Those "special" students that we all have...
bushido_man96 replied to parkerlineage's topic in Instructors and School Owners
This is just about the attitude you have to have when it comes to teaching many kids. Most kids are a challenge, in some form or another. -
Nice touch! I will remember that one!

Which form system do you prefer?
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
That would be nice, too. Another enigma is the Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do and the Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo branches. I have read a little inforamtion on that ordeal, and I am hoping to find more, so that I can write a little article on the subject. Hey, thanks John. That will be a big help. You can find tons of info on warrior-scholar.com/smf in the history section. There are several pages of discussion regarding the MDK. -
The power of intimidation

Never heard of him.

That is a great way to stretch!

I am not confusing reaction time with punch speed. Reaction time is how long it takes to respond to a stimulus; not the same as speed of movement, which is what I am talking about. If you could only punch fast with an exhalation, then punching in combination would be detrimental, because when you put together a combination of hand techniques, it is not always possible to breath out with each technique executed. This is a pretty good explanation of what reaction time is; however, it is not speed of movement. Fast twitch muscle fibers come into play with every explosive movement that you do, regardless of whether or not you are acting or reacting.

I think I have seen this one before. It is well done.

How did you find your MA school?
bushido_man96 replied to Patrick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A friend of mine got me to join up at the school I started at, years ago, and have been in the arts ever since. I guess I found my current school by seeing classes being taught at the college. I had been to the school before, but I got to talk to the instructor this go around, and joined. -
Actually, I feel that credentials are very much a part of politics. It used to be that you did something you loved, learned it through experience, like an apprentice, and then took over for the master, so to speak. Now, you are not allowed to know anything unless you get certificate or something that states that you have learned it, and it is ok for others to learn from you. There is good and bad to both.

You can get good results from many punches by using your feet to push your hip and shoulder into the technique; not necessarily through stepping. You can step if you wish, but if you are close enough, it may not be necessary to step. Watch how boxers punch, and the way they use their feet to turn their hips into the punch.

If you get into a fight, if the police pull up while you are fighting, then it is likely that you both will be arrested and charged with battery. At the very least, you will both be charged with disorderly conduct. If you injure him to the point that he needs immediate medical attention, you will likely be charged with aggravated battery. Battery is intentionally or recklessly causing harm to another person. It becomse aggravated battery when you cause great bodily harm, i.e., you end up sending them to the hospital. Whether or not who started the fight, and who is at fault, and to what extent is decided by a judge. If you would hypothetically kill someone in a fight, you could be charged with some level of murder. To determine it justifiable homicide, you would have to go to court to prove it. In the mean time, you would be spending time in jail, possibly without the ability to bond. The bottom line is that fighting in general is just a bad deal.

Another note, I think that it is really great for the Chiefs to playing back on Thanksgiving day, and I think it is important, because Lamar Hunt wanted the Chiefs to be playing on Thanksgiving, like they used to. Hunt has done so much for the NFL, and this is a great way to recognize him. It also makes my Thanksgivings that much more involved! Food, and a football game that I actually look forward to seeing! Now, with the Chiefs winning 2 division games in a row, and now being 7-4, they have pulled even with the Broncos for second in the division. We have another game with the Raiders and Chargers, so the playoffs are in view, they just have to win games.

Here, here, and for the Chiefs winning on Thanksgiving day!

Thanks, masterintraining. I am going to have my 3rd round of Thanksgiving dinners this Saturday, I think.

I have seen some of these commercials, but I was not really aware of what the Wii was. When I was a kid, I had the good 'ol 8 bit system, and heaven knows I put a lot of hours on one of those machines. My previous video game hours probably out-wieghs my KF hours still!! I have always been a Nintendo fan, and it is kind of nice to seem they are still alive. I loved my Sega Genesis, though, and we all know where Sega went after the Dreamcast. That saddened me a bit, really.

Thanks. Yes, it was quite a game. Not a lot of points scored, but a win is a win. 157 rushing yards for LJ, and still leading the league in rushing. The last Chief running back to lead the league in rushing was Priest Holmes, in 2001. The last running back to lead the league in rushing for Coach Herman Edwards was Curtis Martin, two years ago, I believe. I think LJ has a shot to do it this year. Maybe a few really good games, like 200+ yards, and maybe he could eclipse the 2000 yard mark. Bringing up Priest Holmes, it is kind of sad the football world doesn't really talk about him anymore. He was a great team player, and a great ambassador for the game and the NFL. His acquisition by the Chiefs in 2001 helped to jump start what turned into one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL for the next 5 years. I just want to say, Priest, that you still have a fan, and your efforts have been appreciated, and you will be missed.

Felt good tonight, teaching the kids
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Thanks for that! You are right about that. It is always a good feeling when you see your students succeed in testing, tournaments, or even just in class, when it clicks for them. My favorite feeling of all is when we go to a testing at the organization HeadQuarters, and the students from our school perform better than the students from the Grandmaster's school, and most of the other schools around. It gives you a sense of pride. Just be patient, and keep at it. Teaching kids takes a very special knack, and it can be one of the most rewarding things that you can do. -
This strategy works well, and I have used it in the past. When a student insists on misbehaving, sit him/her out, and then do something you know they don't want to miss out on. Remember, though, once they get back into class, try to give the same student some positive notes to walk out on, just so they know you are not just picking on them.

Sounds like you may have a minor cold, or some infection in your lungs. Go check with the doctor. Cold weather tends to bring around that kind of feeling.

twist kick advice
bushido_man96 replied to insinuendo's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Alright, now I know what you're talking about. I've always had trouble with that kick, and the only thing that has seemed to help has been relaxing my foot. Other than that, it's a bit akward. You could try doing the kick with the instep, which helps with the rotation of foot. I do it this way in sparring at times.
