Lineage ????
stonecrusher69 replied to nanfeishen's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
William Chueng is well know,so some people will always give some negative comments. There not much you can do about that.Just have faith in what your doing and don't worry what other people think. The style of W.C.K I practice is not very well known and a lot people think its made up,so if they think that its fine with me I could careless...Of course all Gong Fu is made up.someone made it up.Whats important is not the lineage but if it's any good. -
What is Wing Tsun?

the form we practice is called siu baat gua (little trigram)its our 4th form in Fut Sao it deal with steping in circular movements. If you look at the wooden dummy form (yip Man)the stepping has part of the circular or the siu baat gua but its incomplete as it does not complete the circle. -

The style of WC I practice is liniar but has circular footwork also.We have a whole form based on that. Not all WC styles are liniar and some do have animal forms in them as well. -

I Idea that if you don't sparr you can't fight I don't believe to be true. When I started out in WC I had only a few yrs trainng and I did very little sparring at that time and a few times I got into street fights and I did very well.I was able to walk away unhurt. So Sparring is good but it does not in and of its self teach you how to fight.Sparring is only the feed back from your traing. Sparring is an important part of the training, but even sparring is not fighting. When you face an oppent when you sparr is different if someone in the street wants to mug you.Sparring is a game not reality. -

Wing Tsun is wing chun it's Lueng Ting copy right so only he can use it.Wing Chun has some grappling in it,but it 's mostly a striking system. -
i don't disagree with you..Blind folded chi sao should not replace regular chi sao practice and all the other types of drills.I just place it in high regards to the training.Past WC masters have put a lot of emphises on it for a good reason. It just seems to me the youger WCers don't value it as much. Some think its almost useless.

practing chi sao with your eyes closed is not the same as blindfolded. With your eyes closed you can easly open them at any time.Blind folded chi sao is the next step up when learning with your eyes open. Its much harder to do chi sao with your eyes closed then when them open. When their closed you have to totally rely on your sensitivity which is what your trying to develope. I never said chi sao is the be all end all of your training however, its a very important part of the training and takes a very long time to get good at.One thing chi sao developes that can not be developed through say sparring is the correct use and types of energy.Without a high skill in chi sao it would be very difficult to learn softness and how to relax and how to use stucture under presure. All soft style have some form of chi sao and that is because we do not use brute force to overcome our oppent.without chi sao practice wing chun would be just another hard style.

I have a friend who studies the Filipino M.A. in the Philippines from a grandmaster.I ask him what makes a master or Grandmaster there.he said its based on how long you have been actively training and teaching not so much your skill level, when you become a grandmaster its the other grandmasters that bestow to you the title not your self.

I know sifu wing lam of Califorina take his students very year to train at shoalin and the sometimes compete in some of the local torniments also.you could go with him.go to his website i think its https://www.wle.com -
I agree that a person has to be effective in all ereas of combat, but I don't think cross training which is so popular now is the way to go.If you cross train that means you are not spending enough time on your art.If your doing say 3 different systems how can you compete with someone in that system who only does that one art?How could you reach the same level? When you mentioned someone could counter your side kick.Any technic can be counterd there is no move that can't.If someone can counter your move then he is at the same level as you, so you need to pactice more not learn a nother system. When you read about great fighter in the past, they all used very few moves to defect their opponent. So I guess what I was trying to say it's quality that's more important then the quanity..
-
I go the other way.I dont think its that important to know every style to be effective plus who has the time for all that training anyway.I tihnk if you master your art to a very high level or just one move I think it would be very difficult for most fighters to beat you.if you had the best side kick on the planet who could beat you?

ok..so how do you like the training so far? ask your sifu where he learned his wing chun and JKD from?this should give you a little idea about the flavor of his style. Are there any traditional Wing Chun schools in your area? -

I never heard of this style before.I asked my sifu ( he's speaks chinese)the meaning and he said it could be the name of a place, thing or family surname. but it does not have any meaning like white crane of something like that.the best thing is just ask your sifu. When you find out post it here I like to know what it is.. -
good guess and and correct because the purpose it is to hit your opponent. What I mean by Snake creeping up(My bridge) the bamboo(the opponets bridge)How it is applied is my bridge (as I cling or stick to your bridge)comes closer and closer which every attack until finally it reaches its target.(creeping up). its just a fancy way to stay I passed your lines of denfence.
