Gung fu or Kung fu
stonecrusher69 replied to kickmaster's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I have been told kung fu is manerian and gung fu is cantonese.Bruce was cantonese so that's why his books say gong fu. -
control in wing chung?
stonecrusher69 replied to SUKU's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
well in wing chun controlling the elbows or knees means you can controll all of the leg or arm.If I have my hand under your elbow I can controll your whole arm,and the same with the leg. There are many technques you can use but that is the theory. -
Sticky Hands?
stonecrusher69 replied to rabid hamster's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Sticky hands is a bad translation. It is really means sticking hands. To stick to the apponents bridge arms and to intercept his attacks will finding openings in his defense. Chi sao is used for the devoplement of sensitivity to a higher . -

stonecrusher69 replied to --'s topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts

kichmaster, ask the sifu if it is northern or southern style shaolin. Most styles are either northern or southern. In general northern tend too be long range and use more kicks then the southern. The southern styles tend to use short or middle range fighting and use low kicks but like to use the hands more then the feet.

I hope I can help a liitle. The difference between modified W.C. and traditional W.C. Modified W.C. is coined by GM William Chueng to refer to all of Yip Man students except himself who learned a watered down or different system .Willian Chueng calls his system traditional W.C. because it is the so- called orginal system handed down to only him from GM Yip Man.As for who arethe GM's well William Chueng calls himself GM because he is the inhertitor of Yip Man system.Yip Ching( the son of Yip man is the Gm of the MOdified W.c. I guess if you beleive that ) There are other Gm's of different W.C. lineages like GM Henry Leong of the fut sao W.C. school. ect..I don't know them all..

Shotokan karate, Karate whats the difference?
stonecrusher69 replied to Eye of the Tiger's topic in Karate
Isn't Kickboxing AKA full contact Karate. That's what I read in a book the otherday,so I guess that Kickboxing is generic Karate . -
Mo_Tseu Buddha hand wing chun is a style that comes from a buddist temple in southern China, and brought to New york City by grand master henry leong who learned the system from 9 finger buddha hand ( nick name) my sifu is James Cama a senior student of the grand master.Other then my sifu, there is only a few people who teach this system. Our style has 3 hand forms the same as Yip man style but wave a form called su ba gwa form that is used for learning to circle around your apponent, 2 weapon forms and two man fighting forms .And some other things as well. There is a web site http://www.buddhapalm.com is my sifu web site it will give you other information on the system that I did not answer.Or if you like you can ask me.

Bitseach That's to bad your sensei does not get into KI developement. What I ment about the horse stance being and developing KI is the horse is usually the first thing that is taught, and from siting in the horse without moving makes the KI in the body to start to move and from this you can send your KI to any part of the body. From stillness comes movement( your KI).This is the fast and simple explination because it would take me a long time to explain it in detail but I hope you understand what I'm taking about. If you only practice the external part of karate and not the internal parts then your missing something real important and you won't reach the highest level in your karate. I hope I help a little.

Chi-Gung, Anyone?
stonecrusher69 replied to Coonaxus's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Coonaxus......Yes there are many chi-gong exercises that can be relatively easy to learn. One chi gong set that is very popular for health only is the 8 section brocade. I don't know if there is a web site but there are many books on this one chi-gong exercise. Try Dr. Yang jwing Ming he has written a book and video on the 8 section brocade exercise.Although a lot of chi-gong can be learned by a book or video ,it would be better to learn from someone in person who is qualified. The practice of chi-gong is very deep and it is not just for worm ups,but on a very basic level it can be done as such.Good luck!! -
I practice kung fu and the function of the horse stance has many as some people brought up,but what about Ki developement. The horse stance is a good stance for this. That is why you should spend a lone time doing this if anything else.I practice my horse everyday which is a little different then the traditional house ,but the main purpose is the same.In Karate in general, do they teach this,or not stressed anymore.

I just like to add that wing chun and white crane kung fu is said to invented by a women but this is only legend and can not be proven.I study wing chun I believe that althought it is a good style for women It was created over a long time in the shoalin temple by many masters adding something to it every generation not by a single person alone.
