Who agrees that the only purpose for lifting heavy weights with small reps is to build muscular bulk. Lifting lighter weights more times is endurance and it seems to give you much more strengh than lifting heavy weights. I have been bulking up for over a year and I have to say my improvement in strengh does not really increase. It only seems to bulk up. Yet endurance work such as body weight exercises and using light weights with loads of reps builds muscular endurance and tones but also seems to give you much more strengh than that of pure weightlifting. Look at Bruce Lee, he had a very endurant body and he was very strong, even though he was very skinny and weighed 7 stone. Look at these Napeles people who are very skiny and small with virtually no muscular bulk yet can carry huge loads of equipment for mountaniers in the Himalayers. What are your veiws on this. THX in advance

Anyone seen spiderman? Cool movie or what? Got a lot of fight scenes in which is always nice to see , especially when he beats the krap out of the big green thing. What are your veiws on it!

It does seem that way, but if it is fixed then Korea will beat Brazil WHOOOO HOOO!!!

Why is it that shotokan karate is the most popular of the karate styles?
-
First of all your never to old to start a martial art of any kind, well maybe Muay Thai but karate any age. Karate is not about fighting it is completely based on pure self defence. I do not do shotokan but here is some info about it http://www.24fightingchickens.com
-
Nope, the shotokan website gives you all the info you'll need. For Taisindo just type it into a search engine like http://www.yahoo.com or even better try out both the clubs at the same time and after a few weeks decide which one you like best and stick with that one.
-
The army teaches very basic stuff with your hands. Elite and special forces dont do a specific martial art its just a selction of holds, locks and throws to either keep someone under control or to kill them. Whoever told you about shotokan army is just speaking a load of bull**** try out http://www.24fightingchickens.com to find out about shotokan. Whats the best brand punch bags.
Eye of the Tiger replied to Eye of the Tiger's topic in Health and Fitness
Yeah, but the point of the punch bag is to improve the strengh of your strikes and kicks, not making a realistic target! -
I'm guessing your refering to the Brit Army since your from England. I think they are just taught silent killing techniques, and the special forces do something called jap slapping or something, where you do anything.

Well.....

There's another one!

I would really like to see some footage of different karate styles fighting each other, just to see how they fight to different styles. Which one wins does not mean a thing, I only want to see it to see how well they react to different styles of karate and techniques. THX in return

Glossary of Martial Arts terms
Eye of the Tiger replied to Bitseach's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Basicly a martial arts database, with terminology and definitions of the arts. Hope they will recognise it. It would be very useful. Maybe you should contact Patrick. _________________ Kickboxer and Wado Ryu Karate SAMA Organisation Former black belt ECKA Karate 14 years old [ This Message was edited by: Eye of the Tiger on 2002-06-18 15:16 ] -

Agility, power and strengh is my new technique. Always moving on your feet, snapping out punches and retreating back fats enopugh so they cant react. Continuous movement never standing like a boxer. Almost like dancing aroung the oppenant , jabbing here and there and then BAMM! Reverse punch straight in the middle of the face. Always in control.

I have only just started my kickboxing about 5 weeks ago and I can actually take my black belt test when I looked at the grading sylaabus. The reasen I can do it right now instead of waiting 3 years is that my other style of karate was very much like kickboxing as it was a more modern and practical style, so I can actually do all the moves that a black belt kickboxer can do and I haven't even graged!

Run out of the class and sign your self up for some Karate classes. -
I dont think that Thai Boxing is suitable for a girl, more kickboxing. Actually definately kickboxing. Its fun, safe and you learn a very practiacal means of defending your selves, you increase your stamina, muscular endurance, technique, power and strengh. Yes definately kickboxing is for you. _________________ Kickboxer and Wado ryu Karate SAMA Organisation Former black belt ECKA Karate From England 14 years old [ This Message was edited by: Eye of the Tiger on 2002-06-16 15:25 ]

When ever I practice I always imagine sparring someone but I always imagine my self winning because all my punches hit him. Unfortuantly that doesnt really happen. Because they move out of the way. In kickboxing do you think its better to be aggresive or more defensive. I personnaly think that if your aggresive you can always keep the pressure on him but there are also advantage I guess to be defensive. How could I quicken my reflexes.
-
Kickboxing might be good for you since I know a lot of girls are know taking it up and its more of a sport thasn self defence but its very practical. But I would suggest like everyone else look up martial arts that you like and try to narrow them down to the ones that you think you would enjoy and then try them all out if you cant make your mind up. You will be the better fighter to the one you arew suited to. Remember that if there isnt one martial art thats better than any over one otherwise everyone would be doing that one. Its not the Martial Art its the Martial artist.

Im agree, especially when you start to move backwards becaues thats when they got you because you move back and they keep jabbing you and you just keep moving back, its a no way situation. My favouate technique so far is definately weaving where you duck for a brief second and rock your body forwards which then sets you up very nicely like a quick upper cut to the jaw.
