  1. Welcome to the forums
  2. Right I think I'm definately going to do shotokan. Can anyone give some advice for when I enter the class, maybe if I could learn some basic techniques.
  3. Actyally my doubts are creeping up on me. Through following my fighting instincts I would rather use hard techniques in a fight. I said I liked the feel of Wado Ryu only because at the shotokan club it did get a bit boring doing the same routine of block, kick, punch, but at the end of the day I think I am more of an agressive fighter than one to react in harmony.
  4. My karate is also based on wado ryu. If you want to take another martial then BJJ is more of a sport with no holds barred, it is not really self defence but very tough. Ju Jutsu is self defence with chokes and locks, holds and is very effective as a martial art for self defence purposes. I dont know anything about Sambo. Hope this helps
  5. I saw in this on another forum where they inclued a sign or picture as part of their signature, they had things like pokemon and pictures of them selves and Bruce Lee. Just a thought, apart from that I agree that a techniques section would be very helpful.
  6. It combines shotokan and Ju Jutsu.
  7. Reflexes definately increased. Though apparently everyone in the world has the same reflexs. The reasen why tennis players can get a serve back from Resedsky is because they know where the ball is going to go. They can tell from the way they move to how they look. I can stop any of my mates punhes and strikes easily. I cant really explain it but I just seem to stop punches becaus I am so quick, I can tell when there gonna punch me so you can react to it. I practice everyday so my body will learn to adopt that as its natural fighting system. So far this has been succesful when for only 2 days of practicing for ages upper arm blocks that turned into my natural reaction to stop a punch.
  8. Well I went down to the shotokan club yesterday and talked to the sensei about if I could have a feel of shotokan. I studied with him for 2 hours along with the other students. Shotokan and wado ryu are quite similar, but at the end of the day I preferd the feel of wadu ryu, that I would feel more comfortable fighting in that style with both strikes and locks, rather than relying more on strengh. And he also agreed with me that certain body types are suited to different martial arts, thats why there can't be a best martial art!
  9. Except me I also train everyday, in karate and in physical training. Its a way of life for me, from how I eat to how I train.
  10. Kensai, certain body types are more suitwed to a particular martial art. For example a tall, leane, and flexible person will be more suited to Taekwondo as the person can execute high kicks all day long. A strong or quite stocky person would be suited to shotokan as they can showcase their powerful hand techniques from low powerful stances. So you see body type does have to do with picking a martial art, you dont suddenly decide which martial art your gonna do. I know what is involved in a martial art like kung fu and my body isn't really suited to jumping high in the air and doing summersalts. Besides there isnt any kung fu, and Muay Thai was the first martial art I wanted to do but there wasn't a club. I have seen the effectivness of Wado Ryu and I think I'l stick with that rather than shotokan. I like both of them, and their fighting styles, but I know wado gives you the best of shotokan and jujutsu so I can have the opputunity to fight people bigger and stronger than me and turn thri strengh against them. Wado Ryu rocks!
  11. Definately not kung fu. It does not match my body type so I do not feel as comfortable as I do in karate, but thanks anyway, and there is no better striking art than another. I'm kinda in the middle here, more advice would be useful. it would be better I gues if I stayed at my karate club, but I really dont mind at all to join a Shotokan club. Thanks so far
  12. Shotokan is usually referred to without the suffix -ryu attached. The other three styles usually have the suffix at the end of their names. The four styles are somewhat different from one another. Interestingly, there is actually no art by the name of "Shotokan." The Shoto-Kan was the name of the first karate dojo in Japan. The people who practice Shotokan in Japan usually refer to their art as simply "karate", completely oblivious to the fact that others refer to it as Shotokan. It is in the US and other Western nations that the name Shotokan has become widely used. Wado-Ryu is an off-shoot of Shotokan and was created in the early 1930's by one of Shotokan's first students in Japan. Being the son of the leader of a Jujutsu faction, Ohtsuka Hinori left Shotokan to found his own style combining his father's style of jujutsu with the karate he learned from Funakoshi between 1922 and 1929. Wado incorporates less kata, kumite, and basic technique and more jujutsu holds and locks. Wado Ryu is good that it inclueds shotokan and Jujutsu so can use an attackers strengh against them. I thought I might be better suited to shotokan because of my good strengh and my ideas mach that of shotokan, that practicing more basic technique is more important than learning more moves. The fact that shotokan uses more kata, kumite, and basic technique makes it that more appeling to me. I am proboly average height, not hugely built, but quite large muscles developed through plyometrics, and I have quite a medium frame.
  13. After much thought I think I've picked the wrong style for me. I prefer the harder style of shotokan than to the softer style of wado ryu, it just suits me and my strong body type. I am going to carry on with my kickboxing as its fun to fight full contact and their plenty of competitions though I dont think my parents are really going to understand how important to choose the right style. Its going to be a bit annoying finishing my karate, I've only done about 3 lessons but have already bought a year menbership. But I think its worth it. No point in doing a style your not suited to. You should do the martial art that your body is suited to. That is how you fined the right martial art for you, and in wado ryu where you use another persons strengh against them and really using defensive techniques, I would prefer to use my strengh in my techniques. Any suggestions. Theres a local shotokan club which also teaches kobodo.
  14. CCtv cameras watching us. I think thats more America. Since you have all that technology sorounding you all the time.
  15. Do you know how much of you sound. I'd rather kick the hell out of the bag than talking to a group about my fantasies, and somehow I dont think my fantasies are gonna be on dragons if you know what I mean.
  16. lonewolf77531 go and introduce your self on the Indroductions forum. Oh and I don't think gay people should adopt because the baby has no say if he wants to live the rest of his life knowing that he was raised by Gays, and live with them. i think the only people that should adopt is a married couple of a women and a man or at least if there together thats alright.
  17. I take it that person isn't gonna have a nice day.
  18. Yep, everyone wants to make men look stupid, but anyway.
  19. Classy
  20. Be swift on your feet, all the time moving on your feet never in the same place (make it into a dance). Never look at the oppenants body, look at his hands and his legs, you will then see when he is gonna strik or kick. Weaving is excellent. This done by when your oppenant strikes, duck, then as you come up you can either come back up towards him so then you can strike him, or you can duck and jump back with a kick or just somewhere to get your self back. Don't let nerves hold you or its called choking. Get it out of your system befor you go and fight. Always have a clear mind it should be like water: if water is clear then you can see the reflection so you see your oppenant, if it is not clear and smashed you cant see your oppenant. So just to recap. Move all the time, weave dodge and always looking at your oppenants arms and legs to see where there gonna go not at their body, also intimidate the oppenant by putting on a brave face abd showing that you are not scared of him (fear will cripple a fighter), and always keep a clear mind. Hope this helps
  21. Whats this about Jean Claude in a bar? Is this related to this thing someone on this forum was saying about van Damme doing something in this bar and think it was Chuck Zito that punched him or something.
  22. If I were to use it I would let him have it, and do a good job of it too! Then Iwou8ld take him to the Police rather than run away, chances are he will go to the police and claim that you attacked him!
  23. I know President Putin is a black belt in karate, and John Presscott was a boxer and I might be wrong but I think the old russain president Yeltzen did Kung Fu j/k.
