  1. Sorry about your loss. I agree with Holland. You may have no choice but to travel a ways to find an instructor in your style who can promote you. The other option is to find a school that you are comfortable with that trains with a mix of MA that you are taking right now. You may be able to find comfort with that instructor and find advancement that way. Althought this is indeed an option I am not sure how you feel about it. Some people would like enjoy the idea while other would. Good Luck
  2. The only 6 pack, sorry to say, that I ever had, again sorry to say, was the one the one I bought at the store. Of course the best 6 pak I ever saw was on a 1970 1/2 Challenger T/A 340 Six Pak
  3. If I had to find something my hair but now I'm losing that
  4. Thank you for your kind words Good luck
  5. Welcome Roman
  6. Chibana Itosu Toyama Funakoshi Not necessarily in that order. If I had to pick one from my list it would be Itosu...because of personal bias among other things
  7. As you requested I am including you and your family in my prayers
  8. Yes indeed it was a fantastic year... this year...well that was another story. maybe next year

  10. My mistake,
  11. Thank you but...Your thoughts came out just fine. I had nothing to do with it
  12. Maybe Chuck Norris IS an alien and that's why he is as good as he is?
  13. I believe that Shito Ryu is part of Shudokan Association in that it is of lineage of Itosu...
  14. As for boot camps, I've heard or them but I do not know where they are in relationship to you. As ShotokanKid suggested there are plenty of certified trainers out there that can be effective. Boot camps, from what I gather do a quick fix that may not help in the long run. A quality trainer (personal trainer or other) can help you in long haul, which is what you would probably want. They can combine diet and exercise and help you to begin to change your habits. Look into Park Districts around you (my standard line I suppose) but it's true. Some have assistance. You can also check local medical centers and hospitals who also can offer assistance on diet and exercise to help you get down to a weight that you are comfortable with and maintain it. (the maintaining part is the hardest...) I've lost perhaps 300 pounds in my life time...90 here, 20 there, 35 there...etc. That's is not the way to do it. Good luck in your search..
  15. I visualize my attacker to the point where I view the bunkai. Someday I actually hope to see my opponent within the confines of the kata
  16. You have to be true to yourself first. Whether the comments are meant to be disrespectful or not they are not appropriate. There are other schools and other instructors. Besides, today it is homosexuals and blacks that are being disrespected by the instructor and in time it may be other groups...including whatever group that you may be in. I am sure that you will find another school and instructor. The best of luck to you in your travels of the path
  17. Your letter to your instructor was a very respectful ending to your karate pursuit. As for your decision, someone said something like "there are many paths to the way." I would agree and I believe you would too. What is right for me or right for someone else may not be the correct path for you. I am wishing you the best of luck in your pursuit.
  18. Your only limitation is you. I was about the same height as you and I weighed about 225 pounds many years ago when I started Karate. Between the training and some dietary assistance I got down to about 170. Of course I am not there today but my point is the training itself, along with a sensible diet will bring down the weight especially if you really don't do much right now in the way of exercise. Martial Arts is somewhat adictive and as you continue to train you will get to the point where you look forward to the training. Unfortunately i am not familiar with any school is Rockford, Illinois but I would suggest looking into your local park district to see if they have classes. As Meguro suggested check into a number of places and make an intelligent comparisoins. Good luck in your search and on you eventual path
