  1. Yeh in the finally of Ultimate Fighter they gave him a fight that he didn't do well in, as well.
  2. Congrats! A couple more weeks and proud uncle can start sneaking in Bruce Lee vids and stuffed tonfas!
  3. Welcome~~!
  4. I think this depends a lot on you- how much time/energy do you have to put toward your MA at home? With baseball you will obviously be in good shape, so you should be able to get a lot out of your one day.
  5. Yeh, I've had this perception tons too- huge softball bruises are evidently not as bad as a few blocking bruises from MA. I think that a lot of this comes from the idea that when you are playing a sport, and get hurt, it's an accident that you aren't supposed to expect, no matter how common it is. In MA you walk into the match with the understanding that you are probably going to absorb a punch or two.
  6. Hehe, in my kaju school we often hear that statement, that's so funny that she thought to say it The girls in my school are lovingly refferred to as "Team Excessive Force" due to our penalties, so I must say- go her. (I expect to be "blessed" with such a child myself) I think it's appropriate for kids. If there are jokes that are "mature" then either she'll already know what its about and get them (too late to shield anything) or they'll fly right over her head and blend with the rest of the dialog.
  7. Yeh, someone said swimming, so I'm working on that Also I ride my bike a good bit and I'm going to start some light weight training to build up muscles.
  8. Yeh, dr just said "low-impact" he didn't give specifics. No, I can't do squats. I can't bend or extend my left knee with much weight on it past about60 degrees. The right knee is a little better. Dr says I probably have arthritis, because it's hereditary and my symptoms (I can tell when its going to rain- pretty cool) indicate so. I also tore both left and right meniscus, which only the left is currently bothering me much.
  9. Thanks for the responses!
  10. Welcome!
  11. thanks
  12. earlier ranks are usually every 3-4 months, then every 6-8 months, then longer term- like a year or 18 months
  13. I think that if someone was in my house, with my younger cousin, doing something that demonstrates their muddled view of right and wrong like stealing stuff, I would go on the offensive, too.
  14. Lots to think about, thanks! I have actually done the art before, Kieran, if you read my first post. I did 4 months, and I would be doing 6ish hardcore more months. That is 10 months total out of the 24 it typically takes. When my instructor and I discussed it the first time, and I brought up a lower level, the concerns were three-fold: 1. Aside from the last 6 kicks and the forms (like 10 of them), I already know the curriculum... so I would, after the 6 months, know all of the curriculum and just be hanging out at a lower level. 2. I think, officially, because of my extraneous MA studies and his rank, he can just award me a black belt as long as I know the full curriculum, but if I have to go through it all, I have to pay for all the rankings. Since I'm going to be helping him out, and it isn't against the rules, I think he wants to help me out and not have me pay (a lot) for each ranking. 3. I may end up wanting to compete in the tournaments for this style in the area, and having lots of competition background, my instructor said that my rank would very possibly be questioned if I fought as something lower than a black belt... I may be able to get away with red, but I've been doing this (competing with similar enough rules) for a long time and it just wouldn't be fair to the people in my division who truly have only been doing this for 18 months if I fight at a lower rank. As far as it being for his purposes and not for mine- well I had wanted to study, practice and compete in TKD, but the gradings are expensive (at least around here). So, I'm totally up for getting the opportunity to bypass that. Also, I like to teach, and think that this would be a good experience for me. I'm less trying to justify and more looking for a dialog. One of the best things about the internet is that you can throw out a situation and get back lots of diverse viewpoints. Since I'm sure a good portion of you are smarter than me or are just coming from a different place, I want to see if anyone comes up with something that I haven't thought of. Thanks again for all the responses!
  15. Yeh, I do a bit of cycling, and it's not too bad. I don't have access to a pool at the moment, but that may change soon thanks!
  16. Hey, I'm looking to get in better sparring condition, but I have profoundly crappy knees- anyone have any good workouts that aren't hard on the knees?
  17. In both Judo and Kajukenbo (he teaches both) I'm going up to test for my green belt, which is just under brown in both arts.
  18. Hehe, I'll bet that's lots of fun- do you have any pictures?
  19. Thanks for the responses- yeh, I'm going to do it because I think that he really could use the help and I shouldn't have any problem learning what I need to to be qualified. I just wanted to hear some other opinions to see how the situation might be viewed.
