  1. but you all seemed to be able to cite the philosophical questions in less than ten lines... in essence there was only one question: "what is real?" a cynic's point of view would be that this isn't even a philosphical question but more of a plot device. it is the reason they can have the fight scenes. it is the reason they can have powers. it is the reason they can get their hands on masses of firearms.
  2. the politics only affect you if you let them. if you see a problem why not try to solve the problem before "taking your walk" (sorry, translating from chinese phrases here). it is always good to go out and learn but first you must learn all you can from your current style. otherwise you might miss some answers that were in your own style. only by understanding all about your style can you ask useful questions about your style. only by finding answers about your own style can you ask questions about other styles. yes you have to empty your cup before drinking someone else's tea but if you don't know what your own tea tasted like to begin with, how will you know if the new tea is any good?
  3. ok fair enough. but then at least he actually crossd hands with a bjj blackbelt before making deciding. would you have prefered he make that kind of statement WITHOUT experiencing it first-hand?
  4. well, turned out one of them was a capoeria/breakdance guy.
  5. well remove all of the non essential from the matrix and what do you get? maybe ten lines of psuedo philosphy. i could be wrong. maybe i huddled them into the comic nerd catagory far too quickly. maybe they are just bad messengers.
  6. ..and i have got to stop sounding like an old man...
  7. y'know, i heard that it is better to kick with foot firmly on the ground.
  8. hold on guys and take a few steps back. jujutsu is primarily a grappling art. it makes sense that they will be good grapplers. to say that they are not is a bit dumb. but then to say that every single one is good is also a bit dumb. let's switch it a little. boxers punch. therefore boxers will be good punchers. not all boxers will be good punchers. tkd is mainly a kicking art. tkd guys can kick really well. not all tkd guys will do all of the kicks. wing chun is mainly a hand art. wing chun guys are famous for fast hands and techniques. not all wing chuns can fight with the techniques. hope you can see my point...
  9. i don't think anything can put me off food of any sort. i'm born and bred chinese and we have a famous saying "if its back faces the sky, we can eat it" so, sleep on your front at your peril...
  10. well that's my point. the "layers" in the matrix are there to serve the cool factor of the film. it serves to feed the target audience. it is a tool and not the real intent of the creators. the film wasn't designed to serve the message. if a film is truely trying to deliver a message, it would dispense with excess and concerntrate with the message.
  11. sho-ju we are talking about size as in fat. next time, before making rushed posts, take a little time to read what the guys are talking about.
  12. well drills are always good but sometimes you need a partner who can show you the "reality" of a move.
  13. c'mon, don't be too hard on jim carrey. truman show nearly makes up for his past crimes.
  14. very true. maybe i'm just too hardened a cynic. but then that's the industry's fault... just how much of a message can it be if the film HAS to make money?
  15. have you seen that "not small" tkd guy doing all them 540s and crazy jump kicks? it was from one of the links on bilang. size does not mean anything!
  16. i think tournaments have their place in your training. however i don't see them as the be all and end all of your training. the problem is most tournaments out there are "in-house" so what if your tournament is full contact if the only people you are facing in there does the same style as you. like i said, tournaments have their place you just have to realise that it is not the same as fighting, unprotected and against all styles with no rules.
  17. so why is alien intervention more likely than time warping? no real alien proof yet but experiments HAVE shown time warping. (but you say the experiments were faulty so i guess they must be then...)
  18. hmmm, i wouldn't compare the two. very different animals and both good for very different reasons. anyway, halfway through "fast food nation" right now... let you guys know how it goes.
  19. haha, i once had a run in with some kid while i was on my way home with a three section staff... the bravado quickly turned into "what the hell is that?" which slowly turned into "you know how to use that?" which then turned into a nice conversation about the ethics of martial arts.
  20. well, taht is the difference between a writer and a screen writer. a writer creates for the story. a screen writer creates for the screen. that's why a great deal of good books can't be filmed or when they do, it is a horribly bastardised version.
  21. personally i have trouble with boxers. the sheer speed of their jabs really puts me off. i had a session with a boxer on campus and he just jabbed to keep me out of my "comfortable" range. every time i tried to close in, another jab pops up.
  22. maybe they do have their own post section. you just can't find it...
  23. just came across this hate to be rude and no offence is meant but you're not really making a style. to me it just sounds like a training method. i mean, all you have is a set of moves that you practice and "perfect" then move onto the next set. now i know that almost all styles train in this way but the true styles out there all have their own take on how to do things. their own principles they stick to their principles. even when their principles leaves then open to attack on one front. now i'm not in any way demeaning what you are doing but to give it a name and say it is a new style just doesn't sound right to me...
  24. because if you want a sneaking around game, you're better off with metal gear solid...
  25. yes but like i said before, any deep meanings and symbols, you probably associated to the film yourself.
