  1. y'know, i've been talking to some of my friends about it and the same kinda comments came up that were mentioned about crouching tiger hidden dragon... 'over the top' 'doesn't make sense' 'ridiculous' but then it occured to me that unless you're chinese/japanese and have been raised on films like these, you will think the same. a lot said that there was too much blood but that's normal in that sort of film. the film only has to make sense in it's own world i think the fact that he managed to make a film that feels so much like a proper chinese/japanese kung fu flick shows what a craftsman he truely is. (a side-note, i felt that crouching tiger wasn't really like a proper hk flick, too polished...)
  2. this is going to sound really nerdy but i even have favourite moments from fight scenes... like when michelle yeoh's character has a wu sau ready to receive against the thief in crouching tiger... or when jackie chan 'bounces' straight back up after being kicked by the little guy in gorgeous... or the very first hit bruce gets on bob wall in enter the dragon...
  3. roughly translated from chinese: "top half, cover with arms, bottom half cover with legs"
  4. yo kickix, you're a mantis player right? do you use the hanging horse or are you more upright wing chun style? or a different stance altogether?
  5. boards aren't flexible, the spinal column is. if you can hold his head stable, why not use the ground or a wall instead of your hand?
  6. i meant the name of the stance. i don't seem to recall there being a grasshopper stance. you seem to be describing a cat stance or hanging horse.
  7. don't worry mate, i get what you're saying. some even say it is like a very sophisticated 'push'.
  8. red pill, blue pill, who cares, it all comes out the same colour anyway...
  9. talking about K1, i heard tyson has signed up for it...
  10. well, generally, we train to be able to punch/strike/receive (it's all the same in out books...) with our hands in any position but i digress... chain punch is just a name for continous punching. like the guy says, it is most often refering to wing chun because we appear do it (chain punch) the most.
  11. sometimes you really do seem like you like to argue... ok, would you rather get attacked by a big tiger or a really big tiger? or lets take your example. there are various factors that would affect my answer. i would rather be attacked by the tiger if it was in advanced old age, lame, blind in one eye, and hadn't eaten in a month. and that's exactly my point. the original post asked for our opinions on whether size matters. my opinion is that it does but we also have to accept that size isn't the only thing that affects the outcome. it is only ONE factor that decides who MIGHT win. like i said, the big guy won't always win, the small guy won't always lose. or the big guy might lose, the small guy might win. or the big guy might win, small guy might lose. take your pick. that's all i've been saying. i only have one real question and that is: do you agree?
  12. well, isn't his name in the credits anyway?
  13. yes, it is just one case where it happened but it still states the case for a smaller man beating a bigger man. like i said before, a bigger man doesn't mean a hard fighter. the bigger guy will not always win. the point is, you can't just look at the size of the guys and pick the winner.
  14. well, the thing, is how many martial arts don't use hands, feet, elbows and knees?
  15. like i said before, you really have got to stop "looking for things". at the end of the day, training is goung to be in room full of people. if the you don't like the environment, then even if the art you choose has everything you "want" you won't enjoy it and what would be the point in that? stop asking for things in a list. you can't just go and make a checklist of things you "want". if you want instant gratification then i guess the simplest one would be kickboxing (but i have no idea how they train/teach that in the states). don't think if you'd enjoy it or not. go and see for yourself. i don't make claims about what cars are nice to drive until i've driven them so i wouldn't say if i liked a martial art until i've tried it. like i said in my other post. most schools let you sit in and maybe have a class or two for free. the only thing it would cost you is maybe an hour or two but you get so much out of it.
  16. but then are kicks from various chinese styles that are used when you are in akward positions...
  17. and i should also point out that a majority of people who claim to be vietnam veterans are not. it's an image thing. just like you have some "martial art" people who wear the chinese long robe, grow the beard and talk with the accent...
  18. i' veonly seen the two finger but he had his feet steadied by an frame of some sort. if he managed it without any support, i'd be really, really impressed.
  19. oh and about his shop. sorry, it's not closed. the last few times i was around there it was closed during the day and looked kinda, well, closed. was there last night and i have to say, he is very much up and running.
  20. but the robes the monks wear traditionally represent their act of "shedding" possessions and is, you can say, strictly buddhist tradition. if you are not buddhist and you don the robes, it's kinda like a civilian wearing a military uniform. (maybe a bad comparison but i hope you get the idea)
  21. punch, kick it's all in the mind.... have to admit that i didn't really play this one. i was too busy with all of the bemani things. hmm, maybe i should've kept that bit quiet.
  22. man, when i first got onto swinging the three, my shins and the back of my head were always getting knocked. but now, i always seem to get my fingers knocked by one of the sections AND now that i'm putting more power in to it, it hurts even more...
  23. today, i received the most basic injury. my grip was wrong and my little finger got smacked by the middle section....
