Getting in the UFC is much harder than you may think it is. Not anyone can just walk up and say I want in. You will have tons of pre fights in lower levals. If you notice all the guys who are in have some common link. The LionsDen, The Gracie, Tank Abbot and his buddies. In other words the guys you see on TV are the stars they are the upper levals. Now I have saw a lot of guys in the UFC before that I was thinking man I could beat this guy up. That was in its younger days. It much like pro wrestling now. Learn to strike, Lean how to defend against BJJ even if you learn it or not. Most of all be in shape because in the end a person who has air will win. Good luck I hope you know what your getting into....

Thai Roundhouse
G95champ replied to Severe Matburn's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I don't know much about Thai but if your facing a good striker you better keep it up. -
Well I don't guess it is much differance than the army giving guys a 40lbs backpack to go run in. LOL. Only thing that would worry me about wearing that vest and doing MA is the strain it may put on your back. Espically if the weight is not balanced. With that said I have wore ankle weights and wrist weights like girls do in aerobic classes before to see if it would help. I had troulbe getting them to stay on however. LOL....

Sort of like a good shooter in basketball who gets a few bad calls early and starts missing their shots. Most basketball coaches will let the player shoot themselves out of the rut or set them down until they can get their mind right again. Hope that ex helps.

My insturctor quits teaching!!!!
G95champ replied to Karateka_latino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Been there. However my when my teacher closed down I was in college and was not arround anyhow. Add to that we did Shotokan so I could find a lot of info on it on my own. Several things you can do. 1. Talk to your teacher about private lessons. Maybe once a week or months. Have he show you some things to work on and you do them on your own time and week to week he can oversee you once. 2. Because your art was from several other arts it should not be hard to learn a bit about each. Try buying a good book on each art that your style came from. Ask your teacher for his ideas and what you should look for. 3. If you start another school I would assume you had enough basic info to jump in and catch on pretty quick. You may have to start all over as far as belt color but thats not why we do it anyhow. 4. Back to the private lesson idea. Get a few of your old classmates who were higher rank or the same rank and work with each other. From time to time call you teacher and see if he can help you out. This is not a class as much as training on your own with help. 5. Spend as much time as you can at KF learing about differan arts and styles. Knowledge is power..... -
One day it will click. When it does you will know it. Its hard to explain but at some point in your trainiing you will have done a move enough that it will hit you that you now understand. Only hard work will get you to that point so don't give up....

I love the knee strike myself. Honestly even though I am a strike by trade I would rather be in close to a guy than 5 ft apart if we were fighting. Espically on the streets because now if he pulls a weapon like I can defend myself better.

With all of that said when I was in school I loved reading the classics. Meaning the Greeks up to Shakesphere.
-
I read a lot but nothing important. LOL I read most MA books I can get my hards on but I don't read them in order. LOL. I may read Ch 6 first and Ch 2 next. I just skim and read I guess. I love reading History textbooks. Im not much for novels I just want you to tell me what went on. LOL

weight lifting to give Power and excess weight??
G95champ replied to ad's topic in Health and Fitness
More Power Yes More Speed It could if you stretch Gain weight YES.... As long as you lift you buidl muscle and you go up on the scales although you may not look bigger. Bench Press does not equal more push up so don't expect it. I know people that can bench 400 lbs but have troulbe doing 10 good pushups. Weight lifting will help you with anything you do. But to life and do MA you must keep some things in mind. 1. Work the muscles that will help me in MA mainly your hamstrings. 2. Reps will help you more with MA than a lot of weight will. Most of us like to pile on the lbs in the weightroom because of peer pressure. 3. Stretch. Make sure you strecth good before and after or you will loose flexability. 4. Dont overtrain. Work differant bodie parts or you will destroy the muscle. Give you self 48 hr to recover. -
IF the boxer has gloves on and the Sumo guy does not. No question Sumo. If both are bare knuckle well Id still go with the Sumo guy only because of size and his ability to hurt the boxer faster. JKD V/S Sumo A well trained striker will beat an out of shape Sumo guy look at Kieth Hanckeny in UFC III. However if were talking about a 350lbs Sumo guy that can move it may come down to who lands the first good shot. BJJ V/S Sumo Unless the BJJ guys lands a choke I don't see him working a good guard. LOL. Hard to wrap the legs. Mass alone makes it hard to grapple a much bigger man. Judo V/S BJJ BJJ only because it works more on striking. Japanese JJ V/S BJJ The better person wins. In all cases the better fighter wins and style don't matter but at some point you have to factor in size and mass.
